Phenomenal. My brain can’t wrap around the wattage being put out by Phil. I have two legs also, I can’t put down anything like that and he does it for a sustained effort, I don’t get it. Outstanding and thanks for putting out this content.
Alan Braaa I don’t believe that at all. That’s like saying LeBron or Jordan or any high performance athlete is just a lottery winner. There are a lot of tall or fit or powerful people in the world but that’s an achievement of their skill set and training. Phil is gifted but look at his work ethic and “retired” training. Even when I get my training hours up I couldn’t dream of these performance outputs. He is truly amazing and I appreciate him sharing what can be done.
@@nimanikaiyn3392 the height of someone is not do with their training... and you prove my point exactly. He is genetically gifted, as with every pro in the world tour. He does not need to put in professional levels of training to put out high power numbers because he has a high VO2max which is almost entirely down to genetics. Regular people like you and me will never be able to achieve the performance levels of Phil because we do not have abnormally high vo2maxes (mine is 62). His is 88.
Kudos Phil! Can't Steal My Ride! First Known Everesting of Tigetail Rd. But I bet you could make a record of Fastest Everesting on this little beast of a climb!
quick question, phil. whats your pedal technique for high watts? push push push? or even power right round the pedal stroke? or something different? or do you change a lot? im a bit of a noob, man. love your videos, they're inspiring.
Lionel took your Mt Lemmon KOM. Im from Tucson and would love to get it back just for you but im not an animal like you guys. Go get that KOM back! Mt Lemmons amazing!
Topanga Canyon from PCH, left on Fernwood, right on Saddle Peak, finish at the overlook before Stunt Rd. Includes the highest elevation you can travel by vehicle in the Santa Monica Mountains at just under 2500 feet. Glorious ride. Do it!
@@sprez thanks. Yes. I wear a HR strap on every ride and especially on cooler, drier winter days (unless I prep it beforehand), it only kicks in with an accurate measurement after 10-20 min usually, depending on initial exertion level out of the gate. But I've never seen mine do that kind of jump.
@@sprez yes. That usually does the trick. I occasionally do that if I'm on a short ride or want a high effort from the start. Usually, I don't care if it takes a few minutes to work.
Retired or not, this is so impressive. The difference between a pro (retired or otherwise) and a decent amateur on a climb is like the difference between shooting pool with a cue and shooting pool with a rope.
Phil, still loving your vids! I think it would be great to show a 3d profile of the KOMs in your videos prior to riding them. Using something like veloviewer would be sweet for viewers to get more of a context of the climbs before you crush them. Ride on!
Credit where credit is due, the previous KOM holder got that KOM at the tail end of an 80km ride that had already done significant climbing prior.. Not sure which effort is more impressive tbh
@@worstretirementever We've got a lot of 1-3 minute short but "sweet" climbs down here in San Diego. Cabrillo Tide Pools for one but for you would be just under 5 minutes
prob cos most of the teams didnt like his views on those popping all the drugs, however i agree the tours are missing his presence big time, they need riders that are clean and can climb like a boss
Land of the Range Rover housewife that has to risk life and limb to get to her driveway 100 feet up the road. Good job! Love watching these efforts!
You just gonna let Lionel steal your KOM's? We as roadies cannot accept this and need our hero Phil to take back Mt. Lemmon ASAP.
Lionel hardly broke sweat at 138 bpm average heart rate, that's super low beater or blood like syrup.
@@kc3718 his HRmax is like 160 if I remember correctly so 138 is still pretty high for him
No it's 170something if I remember correctly
@@csisticsakanyfeju1415 On Zwift the highest he has hit is 165bpm and that is 2 years ago.
Cool to see your on screen data any way to add the gear ratios too would be awesome
"It's watered with Perrier." 😂
That black SUV couldn't make its mind backing out
His heart rate goes up by one beat by the time id already bonk
Thanks, Phil, you boss these climbs and I enjoy seeing the scenery and the architecture and a day in the life of California.
That expedition suv had me shaking my head, thought he was about to ruin that whole effort blocking the road.
sunshine. suffering. chill tunes. thanks for brightening me day
Ah, that music....sounds a bit like it might have come from one of "those" films made somewhere nearby in the valley....

it's extremely high Vo2max, he won the genetics lottery.

That got hella steep towards the end. Well done Phil
Your HRM is a bit wonky, eh? I thought you were a cyborg there for a minute lol.
just a walk in the park for Phil at 110 bpm doing 500 watts lol
It shot up from 102 to 173 in a hurry

Serious power. Smashed it. Keep them coming.
Need more side on or from Infront (upwards bike caam,) camera work.
Great ride 👍
8:55 the burnt down house 🏡 😢

My legs were screaming in pain just watching this. He was flying up 10 degree inclines faster than I can go in the flats.
Your video inspires me to ride... thanks for posting.
Look at you Phil, break-in' the law! Just kidding. Loved this one in particular. Keep up the videos!
Seriously impressive. I'm guessing the guy that had the KOM previously stopped at all the stop signs. 😋
You’ll be getting 4 tickets in the mail from LA Sheriff’s Dept for blowing through stop signs...well done!
“Wattdork” ...... raises hand
8:00 so close 🤬
Hi Phil. Great videos. Just a quick question. I noticed you don’t use daytime running lights. Any reason why?
Congratulations Phil. Great effort. Yes, Brentwood is......
Great work. Should do the UK hill climb season....
Damn. That one hurt A LOT

nice power. That HR went from 120 to 180 at the same power in no time :)
You're crushing it. 👊
YEAH !! Land of The Pretty People !!
Nice work
Olympics 2021!?
Hmm good point.
Hill killer ! Good work Phil 🍪
The music sounds like it's some modern "Sprokets" theme song or from some Euro Thrash version of "Metropolis"
Wow. That was some hill. You were holding onto 500 Watts well until the final push. It was all 13 to 16% there for a while.
Credit where credit is due, the previous KOM holder got that KOM at the tail end of an 80km ride that had already done significant climbing prior.. Not sure which effort is more impressive tbh
Great work ! I love Brentwood
Bro the stop sign! lol
"He never stabbed anybody, he seems like a good guy"🤣😂
He stabbed the city of Cleveland in the heart
Palos Verde hills have lots of KOM's and you live right near by!!!!!
Are the watts perfectly synced to the video? Seemed like they dropped when you were standing and were off your actions by about 10 seconds or so.
It's probably slightly off. It can be a little tricky to get it to sync exactly.
Love that music ... veerrry chill
absolutely slayed it bro, you lost weight since accident
"At least a 6 pack but 8 is preferred! LOL!"
2:54 “that’s what she said”
Good to know some people left Brentwood Essex for a better life.
My hero!
You didn't finish the climb! I reckon it's called Tigertail cos of the final kink that you didn't do!
Do over!
Interesting to know what gear you were pushing 39x 28?
"Beautiful but dumb dog because they're inbred too." lol
At the Start, Your Heart Rate was Friggin is Kill’n Me ... Then it all of a sudden it Shot Up... Ok He is Kinda normal ! 😝
Anyone know what the name of the song is? Thanks
i think i am high. I think i just saw u grab the drops for a while?!
Dialed in!
Phil what is the shortest length climb KOM you are willing to go after?
I mean I’ll try anything but under a minute I’m not great. My sweet spot is 5-20 min

I love how cars have so taken over American life. "Sidewalk? Um, I understand "side" - driver's side, passenger side - but what's this "walk" bit?
What Helmet is that?
How is your HR 172 @ 350w and it only goes up to about 179 @ 600w?
his max HR is probably like 180 or 185
It seem the heartrate sensor was broken - 600W, 101 bpm ;-)
Is that HR data accurate?
Heart rate for the first half of the climb 110BPM :)
alex nelson zone 2 😨
The hr on the Garmin was stuck because of the rapid increase in short time.
It takes time to read of the correct hr number
I fail to see how this isn’t good enough to be in the world tour... basically we need to see phil tackle some koms of tour climbs in France
prob cos most of the teams didnt like his views on those popping all the drugs, however i agree the tours are missing his presence big time, they need riders that are clean and can climb like a boss
Not actually in the tour but go and KOM hunt on the various tour climbs. ventoux, duez, tormelet etc
700W and 101BPM???
How is his HR 102 bpm at 700+ watts/
looks like people in Brentwood don't know how to use a garage......damn lot of cars on the street
What’s the watt p k
Stud!
Nice bike messenger move @ ~ 3/4
wait...OJ got murdered??
Love the goodrs.
All the cars parked on the street annoy me so much. Build fucking drive ways!
do standup comedy!
The heart rate seemed off in the beginning.
I love at the bottom his heart rate is 102 doing 500w, bro come on share the talent please 😂
Trade you for your last name!
@@worstretirementever can you throw in a VAM, need all the help I can get! 😁 loving the vids 👍

U need better chillin at 500watts to steal a kom music
looks like business as usual over there, there is no covid-19 virus.
This was filmed before this mess started
Man do people drive like wankers in this area or what??
