  • Asobo & the team took to the stage to announce lots of great new insights into MSFS 2024. There are new partners and of course, lots of improvements coming on the 19th November and it seems like many of the mods and addons we use may no longer be needed. We'll always need scenery and add-on airports, but there are lots of features now which we purchase mods for in MSFS 2020 that simply wont be needed in MSFS 2024.

    Multi CPU core support leading to smoother/faster graphics is what I'm hoping for.

      Well that's definately been a focus. We know the simulation aspect will make use of better threading. Also DirectX 12 will be default and should perform better in 2024 than 2020.

    As I am one of the numerous home cockpit builders, I would like to have group of views and a zoom per window in MSFS2024 - it was in FSX but not in MSFS2020. In MSFS2020, it was just too difficult to get perfect views for the sceneries !!! I hope that somebody will hear our request ! Thanks again to the channel for such great call ! ;)

      Do they actually improve that? I mean, 2020 basically doesn't run on anything less than 5 cores. It can't even play the menu music without issues if you only have 4 (no HT).

    I love the fact that they're bringing so many good add-on deveopers onboard and utilizing their content to make the sim better!
    I hope some of the non-bespoke/hand crafted airports get some attetion in the new sim - particularly small and mid sized commercial airports. So many of those have mising/inoperative or badly placed jetways, and no or poor ramp markings.
    Would also like to see more precise control over custom weather parameters like visibilty - and see the time not keep moving forward when the sim is paused!

    Knowing what I know about MSFS 2024 I can't wait to give it a spin! I'm still amazed on a regular basis at how awesome MSFS 2020 is, so MSFS 2024 should be a dream come true for me. I love that they are finally replacing satellite imagery with AI inserted 3d textures to represent those surfaces.
    I hope they can make the roads a little better too, as well as the cars, which seem to be a remnant of FSX as it is right now. Maybe we'll even see a train here and there! (Xplkane has had trains for aeons, it seems, so I don't why MSFS couldn't have them, other than them looking silly on uneven terrain.
    Anyway those are details perhaps. I hope they can fulfill the promise of excellent flight dynamics. And given the amount of attention they've been giving on cars in the screenshots. maybe you can even drive a car now! How cool would it be to have the entire world to drive your car in on accurate representations of roads? Shouldn't be too hard to implement :)

    • @dtrjones
      @dtrjones 2 дня назад

      Yeah the 3D out of 2D is tech which was used in 2020 but has improved a lot in 2024. Jorg doesn't put it this way but basically the autogen, procedural vegitation/grass and trees etc was created using AI from satellite imagery. In 2024 this has gone to a whole new level with more variety in vegitation and rocks and other assets being represented as well as detailed maps and tesselation also being used meaning the satellite ground based scenery will no longer be flat which will revolutionise Bush flying. On top of this there will be more TIN areas as well used for national parks and of course many cities.

    I'm currently mostly a GA/VFR flyer, a bit of IFR, sometimes dabble with twins and turbos. I'm hoping that better ground visuals and visual waypoints e.g. cooling towers will enhance the experience. But the main thing would be getting the ATC right for each country. I originally thought 2024 would be all about missions and airlines, but this has got me thinking differently.

      Shared cockpit news we know already. If you've seen the development update wishlist, it's stated as 2024+ meaning it's not going to come out for launch of 2024 or anytime soon. You are not going to get any news on this, this side of the 2024 launch and I doubt you'll get anything until well into next year. As for foveated rendering. I'm heavily into VR but even I'm concious that there are more important fish to try. Forget it and when it eventually arrives, it will be a nice bonus.

    • @dtrjones
      @dtrjones 2 дня назад

      @@DestructZero6471 No, I think Asobo are going with the intention that they will be 100% compatible unless the developer has included some sort of custom implementation which is no longer supported which I doubt would happen. The way new 2024 features will be supported in the sim will mean they will need to be enabled by the developer, so out of the box the plane should behave like it did in 2020.

    The new flight planning tool will be very interesting how their implementation will be. For those of us using Navigraph the new system will be compared in terms of quality and reliability; big shoes to fill. But not paying annually fot Navigraph will make some people happy.
    And I wonder how many airplane developers already using Navigraph will say “Now we have to implement MS system. Is it worth it?”
    The answer is in the new Marketplace implementation. Any plane coming from 2020 must be compatible with the new SDK and I presume (with a grain of salt plz) that MS will require that all planes would have to work with the new tools including the new flight planning system.

    One thing that wasn't really discussed in the Las Vegas presentations was military flying. When you look at the number of high quality 3rd party military aircraft (and to a lesser extent airfields) that have come out in recent times I would have thought some time would have be spent on this area or at least some acknowledgement of the growing number of military aircraft sales through the Marketplace and from 3rd Party outlets. We all know about the "no weapons" policy in 2020 but that hasn't seemingly put off developers from producing superb quality products. Great news that the A400M and the A-10C will ship by default in 2024 and I assume there may be some Missions built around these but no real detail was given, Similarly no mention was made of any default military bases being included in 2024. A super detailed RAF Brize Norton or Nellis AFB would be relevant and amazing.

    I think msfs 2024 is like a more finished product of the current sim. (I think finished is a wrong word for this) but like the current sim was microsoft's first release of flight sim in a while and they already made it great. Then community brought addons and improvements and microsoft has been taking notes what community likes and what a perfect flight sim needs. In the 2024 version they basically just add all the things community really wants and needs and they are probably making the best flight sim by quite a fair margin.

    I’d really love it if a flight sim didn’t need lots of add-ons. It’s not even the cost that bothers me, it’s knowing what to get, then trying to get it all to work. Just something good, straight of the box, is what I want, not endless faffing about. If there was a deluxe option that cost more but just included all the right add-ons I’d take it.

    Wake turbulence is the biggest feature for me. Then comes weather. If they will confirm wind shears will be simulated then j will switch for sure from the beginning. If they don't, I will stay with msfs2020. Especially if asobo now brings lot of stuff into default msfs2024, then there might be some companies which stay with msfs2020 and develop it further even after the 8 years.
    However did they say something about streaming? If I remember correctly they planned on using cloud based data more so you don't need so much space on your hard drive.

    • @wootle
      @wootle 3 дня назад

      FBW is impressive but that is not a good idea because that is aimed at a more "hardcore" crowd. Remember they must aim the entire game to everyone, accessible to everyone. The majority are not interested in poking at MCDU , SID, STAR, cost index and wondering about Alternate Law. So the base game proves the foundation and then you are free to use mods like FBW :)

    A few things that must be in the new sim. Along with improved ATC, the correct phraseology. In the US the correct verbiage is “point” not decimal when ATC transfers you to a different radio frequency. Hopefully this will get corrected in the new sim. There was a really nice add on from the FSX days( EditVoicepack) that allowed words to be spoken to call airports by their proper names as opposed to ICAO codes. It takes away from the realism. Speaking of realism, I use the windsock colors add on which is perfect for each region and it would be really nice for FS2024 to depict the proper windsock directions. Finally, let’s hope they do cloud shadows the proper way in FS2024.

    • @wootle
      @wootle 3 дня назад

      I got my private pilot license flying in the very busy Bay Area airspace and heard plenty of pilots say "decimal". Yes mostly foreign pilots, but no one ever "corrected" them because there is nothing to correct. It's aviation phraseology.

      Microsoft made an expo about this, it was marketplace something. I suggest watching that segment because I am probably missing a few details. But yes* most should work.
