Great video! I am fascinated by Bronze Age history and I didn't expect you to do a battle on it! I'm surprised you didn't use Total War Pharaoh but the Age of Bronze mod instead. But I can't blame you as TW Pharaoh still feels underbaked. Anyway would love to see more battles around this time period, like Hittites vs Mitanni or Assyrians.

The Hittites also wrote about this battle. This was translated much more recently, compared with the Egyptian source.
According to the Hittites, they defeated the Egyptians, pursued the fleeing enemy and stopped only at the old border of Egypt, which they did not want to cross.
The Egyptian narration glorifying Ramses II as the savior of the day is the oldest known PR presentation = propaganda stunt.
The Hittite version is confirmed even here: 16:13

The story was told right, but there are issues with the animation. Hittite Chariots had 4 wheels. Both sides had more than one man on them. You cannot drive a chariot and fire a bow at the same time. Egyptians did not usually charge into the enemy ranks but fired and wheeled around and kept that up. There were no Greek chariots in the battle has shown the Hittites using in the animation.
Other than that, good story telling.

Notes: Ramses II wanted to regain the territory of Egypt to get back to its former glory. The Hittites didn't like this so they made their own army to counter the Egyptians, who were headed towards their land. Two captured Hittite spies lied to the army and told them the Hittites were really far away, so the Eyptians set up camp. Then, they were surprised attacked, and Egypt was caught off guard. So basically, the Egyptian army ended up being broken apart by the Hittite army, and Ramses was even said to have been all alone with no troops around him to defend him. Despite this, he somehow made it through the thick of the counter-army, making it back to his troops. Then, the Hittities assumed they had won the war, and began looting the encampments. While they were doing this, pharaoh and his army caught THEM off guard and defeated them.
Rameses actually fought in the battle with the troops, He is the same ramses as from the story of moses from the bible, (Include whether this was before or after), and the weapons used include wooden and metal shields, horses, chariots, swords, armor.

Your words are correct, except for the part related to the Pharaoh of Moses. This is a myth from the Abrahamic religions. There is not a single archaeological evidence for it. On the contrary, when you compare the Torah and what you say about all the kings of Egypt, you will not find any correspondence at all, neither in dates nor in characteristics.

Ramses II faced significant losses and sought peace. He later promoted the battle as a victory to maintain his image back in Egypt.

Did the Egyptians really come outside of their palisades to fight? Why not stay behind the palisades and use them as cover? Why even bother having palisades if you're not going to use them?

    • @AdituLaudisMMXXI
      @AdituLaudisMMXXI  7 месяцев назад

Good point. Using palisades for defense would seem more logical, but strategies varied. I would think it would be very hard for soldiers to form up within the camp and some may have formed outside

If story Moses existed, considering army of Pharaoh Ramesses II, why he pursued Moses by himself. Instead he better asked the medium army to chase Moses. Finally Egyptologist explained the story of Moses in Ancient Egypt was fiction.

Yeah there no denying it's doesn't match up but the pharaoh of exodus was never specifically named, with pretty much the only reason Ramesses the Great is chosen because he's famous. Not to mention a lot of the biblical chronology, (as much as can be trusted) indicates story is set closer in the 18th dynasty not his 19th.
