I am so damn glad they realized this was what people wanted with this game! The whole world is wonderful; I love the graphics, the mechanics, their tech system... its a great game, but the 'expedition' format killed it. You didn't have time to really enjoy the work they'd put into it. Good to see them listen to the players and give us the option to just enjoy their game rather then racing the timer.
I honestly love the original idea of session based play. The biggest problem is there was no balance to time spent on planet vs mission. You would spend a bunch of time grinding up all to spend a minute or two doing the mission. Being able to take multiple missions, get missions while on planet, literally anything to make the session worth while would go along way to selling the original concept.
Deers give leather and some or no fur. You get more fur from different animals like wolves, rabbits, I think bears. Make a bow and some arrows. Also u can get the skinning table pretty early. I always make it first before my bed. It gives u so much more resources then skinning.
You're using a stone knife to harvest the animals... upgrade to a bone knife and you'll get more of everything. Iron will yield even more...etc. There are points/perks to increase your harvest rate as well. Before starting any new series, please watch the many "tips and tricks" youtube videos so you don't make these mistakes.... which are costing you greatly, IMO. As always, I give every one of your videos a thumbs up. Love you and your channel.
One trick that may save your ass when a storm catches you away from shelter. you can mine a hole into some of the bigger rocks and the hole is shelter from the storm's de-buffs and damage.
IRL Deer have more like small hair fur, wolves would have long hair fur (aka lots of fur), once you get a bow and sneak headshot, wolves become as easy to kill as passive animals.
@@shadowproductions969 Even cave worms are only dangerous if you rush ahead and their poison stacks, otherwise 1 hit to the head each with just a longbow and bone arrows. BEARS however, they are very dangerous if they catch you on land or unaware. I keep my place fortified with a homemade palisade of crisscrossing beams and a gap just big enough for me to get through. Still 1 hit headshots with high level bows and arrows at max archery or with the rifles.
To those just finding this series, to remove walls you look at it and press Y (if it is not damaged). The repair hammer does just that repairs walls and right click swaps higher level walls, no need to tear them down.
Your video came up on my recommended page here on youtube so here's a Few beginner tips from someone who restarted a lot, sometimes just for the hell of it, other times i did it to show friends i game with what the game is like when you start out. Dont fear the wolves.. i dont recommend spears (personally) i prefer knives same damage with the option to skin prey without having to swap places. Xp for Kill and Skinning make hunting wolves easy farming early on. (On Normal Difficulty) With 2 well placed shots to the dome with a stone knife, they're dead. This is the same regardless of a wolves level between Level 1 and Level 80ish.. if 2 dont work.. 3 will.. Chance of manually skinning is like a gacha spin where the skinning bench is guaranteed amount. So farming like above can work.. hunt the wolves... Wanna attract the near by wolves without looking for them and have them come to you. Hunt any animal, wolves included, and wait. if you don't wanna waste the animal you hunt, skin and take everything but the raw meat. Wolves and other predators will make their way to you. Easy kill on Bears and Jaguars? Jump into deep water, they swim and will only really attack when they're right up on you. So you can get 5-6 hits in before they land 1 (this is so for Bows and Spears) With knives you get about 3-4 hits in. Caught in a storm, find a large rock big enough for you to dig into and fit without breaching, you have to be bouts 3-4 feet into the rock completely.. so you'll need a large enough rock to stand or do this crouching.. get to the center point of large said rock and your sheltered.. (bring a sleeping bag and a campfire and you could potentially sleep out.. if your caught in the night (after 18:00)) Also If you want a great starting point.. use the Olympus Map and spawn nearest to K12, Go upstream from the Lake and find your way to the waterfalls coming from the mountain. you can either build beneath the waterfall and be fine or build a staircase up and build above on the rock layers, these can offer Height to your build without it being completely one structure. Like having the staircase be all its own and then the home on another layer. And with the latest updates, Progress enough and using the new Fortification walls you can erect a wall at the first tiny waterfall that later breaks up into streams and every day (in game) you can wake up to, or go home and find passive mobs trying to use your fortification gates due to their pathing usually taking them into or out of that area. 1 time i came out of my home to see a horde of deer and rabbits at my gate trying to get out. And if you want early Tier 2 taming when you have enough points to do it, the North Right Corner of L11 and North Left Corner of M11 is where you can chance upon Moa's, Kill the brown feathered adults and have the young white feathered ones follow you. But i recommend being prepared as the moment you select for them to follow you back the taming process already begins.
a few key points in this game. Better foods give better perks like extra stamina and health along with regen. Thatch will take damage from rain but wood and better won't. Using a torch or campfire inside can cause a fire, and using a torch in thick woods can cause a fire to spread You get bonus for stealth attacks and can be increased with points. Heavier structures collapse easier.. so you might have a 6 wide wood room but with Stone roofs without stone supports can cause it to collapse. Better tier gear gives better yields and a skinning station gives much better yields. Lesser known thing is you can get missions along for "exotics" and you can return that to space and sell it to get currency to buy better suits and even get you can start with
I think someone needs to contact the developers and tell them that you can make a bed with pine needles, branches, leaves, sawdust, bushes, etc. I think that a bed should be the absolute EASIEST item to craft in the game, with the exception of picking up a stone as a weapon. Just my thoughts. Love your channel!!!
Hey, Kage! Great series, keep going with this. One thing about fighting animals in the beginning is that you don't want to run back to your base, they can destroy it! Jump up on a large rock instead, they can't destroy that, and they can't jump up there with you! Use a bow or your spear to fight them. Once you've killed them, butcher themmm right away, use your knife. Higher tier knives yield better results, more fur, leather, meat, etc.
kage always keeps me up to date with new upcoming survival games. Always my No.1 streamer/RUclipsr when it comes to survival games. If kage says "it's a good game" I always buy it! After so many years still open on my second monitor while playing my own survival game.
Just started playing the game, but it messes with my head that we are on a planet that has a breathable atmosphere but we have to manage O2 levels, I understand as a survival game they need things for us to manage, but really, O2 on an O2 rich planet lol
Great example of why to get spear & knife first. Spear can reach down to hit, or help you hit as you run backwards from animals. Then knife collects the resources, & clears away the carcass so you don’t attract endless predators…. Using pick on the bones protects your knife from damage…
Don't forget to put points in your solo talent tree. Rabbits give good amount of fur. Dedicated server is easy to set up and so far it works great for me.
I have to agree the staring over and over constantly got really old really fast for me, plus time passing while you were not able to play. If icarus had came out years ago when a tornado took out my internet for 2 weeks or the ice storm that took it out for a month, I would have pretty much lost my character due to a natural disaster. Which would have really ticked me off (to put it nicely). Once they took out the real time timer and went with actual play time... I felt a lot more comfortable taking on short timer missions. Even doing 30 day "exploration" missions worried me as what if on day 29 I lost my internet for a few days and my main died for something outside of my control... With not only the open persistent world, being able to choose a drop area and no fear of a time out due to something outside my control..... It has really opened up as a player forward survival open world type game.
for new people, the best way to level the earliest level is cutting down trees. NOT chopping them up, just cut them down. You get 300-400 XP for chopping a tree 3-5 times till it falls over
Really enjoyed the episode and I'm looking forward to more Icarus. Kill preditors (Wolves, etc) and upgrade your stone knife to a bone knife, you will get more yield from skinning than you would from a stone knife.
Well done starting from level 0 Styx is a mean mistress. As others gave said wolves for fur, you can kill them quire easily walking backwards stabbing them with your spear
Whenever you kill an animal and you do not have a means of butchering it. If you carry it back and let it set the hide decays off or something like that and then you can loot the carcass
Cool. I'm so glad that a) they have established this mode and b) that you are playing it. I tried enjoying other lets plays of this game but the mission nature made it less than fun. So yeah this is awesome and I look forward to actually seeing you build and progress and such.
The loadout system is so badass but its not really compatible with open world mode unfortunately. That's the only reason I grinded through missions was to unlock the amazing starter tools and workbenches you can land with so you dont have to progress through the whole tech tree to complete the missions
Kage848 put your skill points to into knife and bow and arrows. Spears are weak at best. Knifes are great for killing wolves. Also, watch videos on how to kill bears.
You can get out of the weather by hollowing out a boulder, crouching and going inside. EDIT: at least you used to be able to. Been quite a while since I uninstalled last. Currently installing fresh to try this open world thing.

That doesn't work if they're damaged, and at the time he didn't even have a hammer. So breaking / rebuilding them is the only way.

😍 Interesting Concept, Space man coming from space to build stone tools.
that last spear shot though!
this looks so much fun, like a rust and satisfactory in a way
"All I eat are fruits and vegetables" Pretty sure most things wolves eat could say the same lol.
Well now I have a new wish list game thank you. No one else I follow plays many survival games. So you are my go to to find a new game. Thanks.

This game mimics Conan Exiles building system, only its earlier iteration. Now I appreciate changes Fancom did even more
Cooked meat gives health. Also your knife and where you butcher influences what you get from animals.
