I have to say I adore value packages that hit above the mark. A lot of third party lens manufacturers are stepping up and it doesn’t appear so clinically well corrected to my eyes at least. I think there is something to be said for character lens with marginal flaws that bring less perfection and draws the viewer closer, and of course clinically accurate lens have their purposes, great review again. Always can count on you for an honest critique
I think it holds up really well. Definitely better than the Viltrox, Meike, or Tokina. Not as good as the Viltrox Pro AF 27mm F1.2, but that's a whole different ball of wax.
@DustinAbbottTWI yeh i figured with 27mm. Haha thats why i only stated the 33-35 lengths. Thanks for the input, looks like im gonna go for the YN lens just for fun.
Great review. With inclusion of remote controlled focus do you think they might scale it to power zooms? if/when they start making zooms have you heard anything about them making zoom lenses?
I'm having some weird issues with it, don't know if maybe my a6400 is somehow bad. I was in snow and dense fog environment and pictures had vignette more like linear gradient - darker from top, and if I turn camera in portrait, then darker from left - brighter to right. It's not affecting whole frame but more like vignette.
Hi Dustin, I'm looking to pick up a 23mm and a 33mm for my sony a6400. I've kind of already decided to go for this yongnuo for the 33mm but apparently they have a 23mm on the way as well. I can't seem to find any release dates or reviews on it though. Do you think it's worth the wait or do you have other recommendations for a 23mm for sony aps-c? (sigmas 23mm is above my budget btw)
YN is coming very strong in the lens market. 😮 I wonder how good it would perform if we compare it to the new Viltrox 35 f1.7 Air. Which one you can recommend? Is the 23mm and 56mm coming for Fuji as well, I can't find so much information about this lens line up? No one is talking about this brand. That can be a good trinity for my camera bag. Nice review
I will be covering the 23mm (I’m working on a review now). The YN is obviously more feature rich than the Viltrox, but not better in pure optical performance
@ yes the optical performance of the new 35mm from Viltrox is quiet good for this price. I saw some comparisons of the YN 33 and the Sigma and the YN was better (even with the CAs)
This looks decent but overall the Meike 33 seems like a better allrounder for less money if you can live without complete weather sealing. Especially the bokeh looks much stronger (almost complete lack of cateyes) which I think is one of the biggest draws of a 50mm prime.
@@DustinAbbottTWI I've tested the 55 and 33 for APSC and use them along the excellent 23mm Fuji WR LM. I think they strike a great balance of build, IQ, size/weight and price for 26mp sensors. LoCA & (nice creative) flaring is present on the 55, very little on the 33. They are not Fuji quality, but for €200 incl. taxes the best f1.4 package I've seen to fill gaps in a kit for less used focal lengths, especially the 33mm surprised me. The 55 is a bit more "charactery".
I am very impressed with the rendering from this lens. It seems to have great 3d pop, bokeh quality, global contrast... all for a great price. This is often the case when the ratio of highly refractive glass element is high. This often leads to some chromatic abberations as we see here but also improved rendering. Thank you for the great review!

That's a great take.
Where would u place this amongst the other budget 33-35 autofocus lenses ..viltrox, meike..etc?

Not bad lens obviously but all of what most of us need is more compact and light lens construction like the old fuji 35mm f1.4..
7Artisans announced a 43mm small 35 1.4, won’t have an aperture ring though
Perhaps, but I certainly don't find this lens overly heavy or bulky.
Excellent review as always
Where would you place it when compared to the sigma 30mm f/1.4
The Sigma is smaller and lighter, but the Yongnuo is better in every other way.
Great review. With inclusion of remote controlled focus do you think they might scale it to power zooms? if/when they start making zooms have you heard anything about them making zoom lenses?
I haven't heard anything, but that would be an interesting further application of this technology.

Hmmm, that sounds very odd. Have you tried updating the firmware on the lens?

I'm testing the 23mm right now. The release date hasn't been set yet.
@@DustinAbbottTWI Allright. Guess I'll have to be patient. Looking forward to the review!

Clearly another excellent apsc alternative, your usual excellent review on glass just a touch less expensive than Zeiss Batis.
Quite a bit less expensive!
Hello Dustin,
Yet another option for the newly released Nikon Z50 ii camera. Options are good for the consumers.
Thank you for the review.
They definitely are.

Hmmm, I've yet to be overly impressed with any of the Meike lenses I've tested.
