First major theme park since DAK and islands of adventure. That’s the difference. Back in the day Disney would have responded with another park now all they do is retheme splash mountain and idk the ability to make lightning fastpass 7 days out?

    • @AppleGaming4Real
      @AppleGaming4Real Месяц назад

@@PatThePerson They don't need a new theme park right now. They still have 4 vs Universal catching up with 3. The last few years, Disney has definitely opened more great additions compared to Universal. I think its a simple case of people wanting to be mad at Disney. The Universal parks don't look all that great right now. IOA has an entire land with literally nothing but a restaraunt + a talking fountain, Kong + Fast & Furious are terrible, Minions Villain Con was a failure, and Jimmy Fallon is passable at best. Universal hit it out of the park with Hagrids and Velocicoaster but in the time Disney made:
      Flight of Passage
      Navi River Journey
      Frozen Ever After
      Mickey and Minnies
      Slinky Dog Dash
      Alien Swirling Saucers
      Rest of Toy Story Land
      Smugglers Run
      Rise of the Resistance
      Rest of Star Wars Land
      Journey of Water
      Guardians of the Galaxy
      Remy's Ratatouille Adventure
      Tron Light Cycle Run
      Tiana's Bayou Adventure
      Country Bear Musical Jamboree
and of course other stuff like firework shows, misc shows etc in between.
I would say Disney is just fleshing out what they already have and not charging an extra ticket to see their new stuff.
Even if you don't love some of disneys new direction, they are still pumping out around 1-2 high quality attractions a year

The reason why I scared of epic universe is that it’s going to revolutionize the way theme parks are created, they probably never going to be a old fashioned and outated rides anymore. The only ride left out of the old world from universal is ET ride, but Disney has alot old fashioned rides. The new era will put an end the old fashioned way of making theme parks. I don’t like new and modern hyped things. I think one of the reasons why Disney is failing is because they can’t create things that fit the audience of the modern era. Universal has dr seuss land ,but is mostly is forgotten and has short ride lines and people kind of skim over it when mentioning universal. Most kids these days don’t like old carousel and theming like fantasy land or Disney princes rides anymore they like new modern exciting rides like the velociraptor coaster. there growing up and leaving the old fashioned in the dust.

Beyond just the edgier themes, there's just so much more creativity in this park and better utilization of IP and themes. Disney has felt like they are mailing it in lately. I agree that Avatar was probably their last 'wow' attraction/area. Universal, meanwhile, has been cooking with the Harry Potter IP. I think the How To Train Your Dragon area will be better than you think, and create more fans of the franchise. But, if they hit on the vibe that Dark Universe is promising, that will likely be the crown jewel of the park.

Given Disney’s work with Nintendo in the past on some video games & theme park stuff in Japan, it is BAFFLING to me that they didn’t do whatever they could to get Mario + Pokemon. Like AMAZINGLY. But hey, they also passed on Harry Potter back in the day because JK Rowling wanted more creative freedom than Disney was willing to give her, and then Universal pounced on the opportunity, which turned out to be the first really major expansion that really allowed them to start growing beyond just an extra day destination on a Disney vacation.
So it seems Disney is succumbing to an illusion that is fatal to companies: the illusion of invincibility.

Wasn't expecting this vid to turn into a Dark Universe love letter, but I'm down with it! It's the area I'm most excited for too and to your point, we've seen other versions of the other lands. There's even a How To Train Dragon theme park land in Dubai.
To your other points, I love Rise of the Resistance, but honestly it could have been built in Tomorrowland and I still would love it. I didn't need a full Star Wars land. And Tower of Terror in Japan doesn't even have the Twilight Zone IP. It has its own original story. But because the ride system is the same, it's still enjoyable with a different story.
Overall, Epic Universe is the first fully developed, completely new theme park to open in Orlando since the late 90s with Animal Kingdom and Islands of Adventure. The fact that Universal already announced no single day tickets on opening, means they know its gonna be a hit. Now if only one of those expansion pads could become a new Amity Island with a revamped modern day Jaws attraction.

Universal should iron out whatever licensing kinks there are between them and Paramount and put in a Star Trek Land. That would completely ice Disney. The rides already existed; just bring them back and spruce them up a little. The 2 motion simulators from the ST Experience in Vegas, and that TNG shuttle roller coaster from somewhere in Europe. Add in updated versions of stuff from the Vegas experience like Quark’s Bar & Grill, the prop museum, clothing/costume shops. Characters in costume and in full character mode. And then as the coup de grace; a themed hotel. Not some weird 3 day larping thing, but an actual hotel with Trek theming.

It’ll definitely cut into Disney’s revenue, but a lot of the talk of how Epic will completely destroy WDW has always seemed very hyperbolic to me. Unfortunately, Walt Disney World, particularly the Magic Kingdom, is a cultural icon.
It doesn’t matter how much modern Disney withers down the experience through paywalls and cheap attractions, they’re a household name. They can’t be dethroned easily. The combined nostalgia of multiple generations of park-goers has formed an impenetrable shield around Disney World that no matter how hard Universal tries, refuses to break.
That’s not to say they can’t entirely though, if Universal plays their cards right in the coming decades and if Disney (hopefully) keeps going the way they’re going, UOR may have a chance at exceeding them in attendance.

Let me think. Probably only able to have Firework shows on the 4th of July and New Years because local residents wont put up with it. Whereas Disney has fireworks 365 days a year. People travel with their families and go to Disney. Kids build up nostalgia and do the same for kids. Sure as kids hit their tweens they want to be edgy and do adult stuff but the parents might only do a day or 2 in those other parks. Letting your kid roam the entire Disney campus seems safe. Universal and Epic not so much.

Eventually something will happen and Disney will put out something crazy, then after that there will be another 2025 moment where Universal takes a major hit at Disney right when they have nothing to offer.

Yes, people will still go to disney, thats a given, and thats not what hes suggesting, of course disney is still going to make money, but universal will finally become on the same level as disney, and possibly become better, as they're planning more expansion.

    • @Randologic.
      @Randologic. Месяц назад +2

But can’t the same be said vice verca?
The disney parks are currently riding off the success they’ve had in previous years and only innovating when in dire situations (2010 marked the opening of the wizarding world of Harry Potter, marking universal as a main player in the Florida theme park industry and making it a main attraction instead of a pit stop (going from under a million to over 7 and a half million upon opening) Disney was forced to respond and began work on Pandora (and new fantasyland but it was more of an expansion to a Pre-existing land but for the sake of including it it came out in 2012 and was overshadowed by Diagon Alley in 2014) but it took until 2017 for it to actually open (Universal during this time had already opened Diagon Alley and experienced another burst of success but we can’t exactly tell how well this land was due to Disney not releasing attendance numbers)) when the theme park crown is about to be snatched from their head. Yet during downtime, they haven’t done much to persuade potential park attendants. During that time we’ve got updates to the parks that have betrayed the general publics trust as if recent (hiking up prices after their streaming investment didn’t go according to plan, reportedly bringing a single day, single admission ticket to $119 for 2025, with the only thing making the deal sweeter is Disney selling a bundle to make the initial day seem more affordable (current deal is $34 per day) yet they still get over $500 upon just tickets) but to be fair Universal also has high ticket prices (but to be unfair the 14 day package is cheaper) yet their brand name has remained clean with little saying they’re price gouging (common complaint I’ve heard with Disney) due to merchandise pricing. Plus they’ve slowed down once Universal hasn’t released anything (yet they are well aware of Epic Universe yet turn a blind eye to it). The Epcot expansion hasn’t amounted to much yet with it being disappointing and not delivering the promised spaceship earth update, leaving it pretty outdated, they just copied and pasted Tron, they removed a signature ride and replaced it with a pretty inferior replacement (it’s still decent just has some writing flaws, animatronic flaws (with one of the Tiana animatronics having exposed inside? Wiring? Whatever) and just an underwhelming upgrade overall) and a doubling down on ip in the park despite audiences getting burnt out of marvel and Star Wars.) keeping people coming back due to old memories (spurred by the pandemic which sparked a wave of people going on holiday just out of spite for being inside the whole year).
What I’m saying is that people are burnt out of Disney parks. Due to the hype built up around each and every announcement, you can tell. Disney has constantly failed on every other front (movies are less well received, streaming is putting more strain on Disneys supply of money and their reputation has been corroded by time) and double down on the parks with upped prices and plans that sound good on paper, but aren’t in the interests of consumers. They’ve forgotten what makes the theme parks special and only do it to keep the whole company afloat. If the only thing you have going for you at the moment is memories, then I say it’s been overdue an assassin for a while. Where Disney failed, Epic universe innovates, solving the problem of disconnect in parks ruining Emerson (you walk from a different planet to earth but you’re suddenly the size of a toy? That’s odd. We have portals to connect everything!), Movie burnout (well, we have a never before seen hub, the first ever immersive video game land, a section based off of our horror movies that where adapted from other means of storytelling meaning if you aren’t familiar with the movies, the original stories might still ring a bell, another based on a movie franchise that admittedly barely anyone is excited for unless you’re a die hard fan and the third part in our themed area trilogy based of a major location in the main films while deriving most of the theming from the spin-off) and genuinely seeming like a project way out of the scope of what Disney will do since they haven’t put out a main theme park with this level of dedication to detail in ages.
Now that I’ve done my little rant I’m here to say I have nothing against people who like Disney. It’s fine, they have solid attractions that I liked a lot but due my trust in the company as a whole withering away my trust, I’m happy to a major blow being dealt to the mouse’s cash cow. I feel like Disney has lost the plot and thinks that customers will keep returning simply because of brand recognition and if this opens their eyes and they start making quality stuff again, I’ll probably shift to the side of Disney but right now they are so behind that I feel like there needs to be something that tells Disney to step up. To say that Disney will be unscathed from this is probably far from what’s happening. Audiences have been bashing Disney for ages and with the update to Epcot being the most recent and underwhelming thing, they are probably looking for something to shake up the game. If Disneys left as the head of theme parks, with their lack of changes, poor choices and the only factor going for it is brand recognition, perception of theme parks will shift for the worst.
Universal will damage Disney and with 2 expansion slots, it seems like the well is still not dry
Again, no hate to you or anyone that likes Disney over universal. Genuinely, you seem really passionate about it and I’d love to hear more of your perspective since I lost my taste in Disney ages ago. Again, I could be wrong and Universal absolutely fumbles it, tripping and dropping the daggers on the floor before impaling themselves upon their own accidental trap. I’m just excited to see how this pans out and ride some things I’ve had years worth of hype for.
Stay doing things I guess (I’m bad at outros)

The comment at 4:53 about going up a chain lift is ironic considering that the reason i have zero hype for Epic Universe is because it does nothing about the Universal Orlando Resort's launch oversaturation. The only big coaster in the entire resort without a launch is Hollywood RRR, and that seems to be on it's way out.
Stardust Racers shouldn't have been launch coasters, instead they could have gone with something like Hyperia at Thorpe Park but on a smaller scale one have two of them. IMO Stardust Racers are a bad addition to the Universal Orlando Resort because they don't add anything truly new to the resort's coaster lineup. Place them in almost any other park and they'd be excellent additions.
