there was a an afghan woman in a homeless camp fleeing taliban interviewed and when she was speaking her language and lot of the words sounded like gujarati or sindhi like 'padharo' and 'munjhe' ........lot of pashto sounds more like hindi than persian

The origin of Pathans Pashtuns (Pakhtoons): The name "Afghanistan" comes from sanskirit word "Upa-Gana-stan, the founder of Afghanistan was Kalhaar Sharma a Brahmin King, In ancient age, Pathans pashtuns were Hindus since Afghanistan was north indian state of India, Some were convert Muslims.
In Mahabharata, Shakuni is an important character. He was a pathan. Similarly, a great Sanskrit writer Panini was also a Pathan. The people of Afghanistan were Hindus before 900 AD. Pathans are ancient race. For last 1000yrs they are muslims. However, for the earlier 1000 + years they were Hindus.
They were converted. Many members of royal families of Afghanistan (both Pathans and non Pathans) accepted death but did not convert to Islam. Example, the royal family of Balkh.They were Buddhist and Hindus. When given a choice between Islam and Death, they choose Death. All Pathans were not slaves of Muslims. However, many could not migrate to Hindu majority areas. They had to accept islam.
The Pathans had resisted muslim invasions for 200 years. King Jaypala was the last Hindu king of Kabul. Many Pathans left Afghanistan after this. They dont call themselves pathans but identify with the place where they stay. They dont even know that their ancestors were Pathans. Kapoor's of India are mostly Pathans.
If you go by self identification, nearly 99.99% are convert muslims. This is because, the pathans who left pathan areas do not call themselves pathans. Most kapoors consider themselves Hindu punjabis, capital city KABUL is named after the HINDU-BUDDHISTS Kings called KABUL SHAHIS, JAI hind 🕉 shanti Aum.🙏)

I am not sure you whether have cared to look up today's actual Pashtun people or have ever met one. No, not Shahrukh Khan. An actual village level Pathan. To call them the descendants of Acharya Panini - a great linguist and a progenitor of Samskrutha grammar - would be the greatest insult to that great man! Please, please do not invent stuff up. Pathans are an eastern Iranian people living by the Silk Road and were among the several mleccha tribes which lived at the borderlands of India, then as now. They are ethnically related more closely to Kurds than they are to any Indian group. The Hindus who lived in that area, who were Indian, were not Pathan. They were of India.
And Shakuni was Pathan! Kya baat hai! Shakuni was a king of a settled kingdom which lay in today's Afghanistan. Does not make him an ancestor of today's tribal Pathans! Hey Ram iski soch thikane laga de! First of all the descendants of Shakuni all died in the Mahabharata War so the lineage ended there. Secondly, the Indian people who lived in those parts migrated eastwards centuries before the ancestors of today's Pathans - nomadic tribes - moved in.
The greater question is, why are educated, literate Hindus so obsessed with calling unlearned, tribal Pathans their own?! What sort of inferiority complex is this?
@@krishnanunnimadathil8142 I 100% agree I think the good relations between Afghanistan and India made some Hindus/Indians claim an Indian origin for Pashtun which is false they are neither culturally, genetically ( although some Pashtun might have some North Indian in their ancestry but this might be due to migrations during the Afghan kingdoms) and linguistically ralated to Indians. Another think to note is that their language share consonants with Ossetian, an another eastern Iranian language, despite both of them 1000's of kms far apart which further confirms an Eastern Iranian origin for them.

I am a Pashtun and we are the original people of Mahabharat, our land is the land as mentioned in the epic Mahabharatha, we were the Hindi tribe of Kaurava and Pandavas, Gandhara was our land, it still is as Kandhar, we were given to vehement wars and we are same even now. We have changed our religion, but not our DNA.
We feel proud to say that we are still on the original religion of our ancestors who were pure Sanatan Dharmi, which is nothing but ancient and original Islam, Alhamdullilah we are still following Islam, which is pure Sanatan Dharam. We never used to worship Idol as Sanatan Dharmi nor do we do it now, with all our shortcomings Allah has been very kind to keep us on his religion and made us Muslims. The Aryan Hindus of India are my brothers but they don't follow Sanatan Dharam, they follow their own created religion or cult called Hinduism, this name is not even mentioned in any of the ancient holy books of Vedas and Purans.

Well Islam can never be sanatan dharma because one of the main principles of sanatan is that the lord is seated in everyone and that everything is a part of God and that God has no limits.

I have disliked this video and I will explain why. As much as I appreciate the work this channel, one has to call BS on this particular topic. If the assertions made here were based on ethnographic studies or linguistic and cultural data, we would have something to agree upon. The Pashtuns of the present day are an Eastern Iranian people and NOT a native Indian people.
I can't be any more offended than to be given the suggestion that today's Pashtuns - most of them unlearned and illiterate - are the linear descendants of luminaries of Indian civilization such as Acharya Panini! There is practically no relation at all between Pashto and Indian languages, least of all Samskrutham; the commonalities which one seems to hear is the Persian and Urdu which has permeated both Pashto as well as most northern Indian languages especially during the Mughal period. The Indians who originally lived in that part of the subcontinent or close thereto migrated eastwards centuries if not millennia ago and not merely because of invasions but also seismic shifts in the climate.
And as I have explained elsewhere, it doesn't help if people keep inching westwards with their ideas of who is Indian - to some, Iranians are Indians, Kurds are Indians, Arabs are Indians, Jews are Indian; where do you draw the line? I don't think India is short of actual, native "Indian" people today that we have to go about claiming inane outsiders as our own. Does it mean the Pashtuns were unknown to ancient Indians - probably not. There were all manner of mlecchas or barbarians outside of proper society and these tribes, differently named, may have been among them. Outsiders are outsiders; and they are fine by themselves. It is rather sad if Indians premise their own self-importance based on commonalities with foreigners.
The reality is that today's Pathans are quite unsure about their own origins and ancestry. So, they go with anything that "sounds cool". Alexander the Great? Yes we are related to them (that's where they get their blue eyes apparently! Never mind actual Greeks are short with curly hair!). Muhammed bin Qasim? Yes he is my great uncle times 50. Saad bin Abi Waqas? Yes he was the first Pathan!
There seems to be more in common between Pashtuns and the Kurds - another Iranian people - than they themselves care to admit. The Kurdish homeland is on the western edges of Iran; how the Pathans ended up where they have - on the eastern fringes of the Iranian realm - may have to do, realistically speaking, with the mass population transfers which the Iranian empires used to inflict on their recalcitrant populations and tribes as punishment for rebellion.
The Pathans and Kurds were considered to be uncivilized tribes, like other such tribes as Lurs, Qashqai and Turkmen, even by the settled, sedentary Iranian empires such as the Achaemenids.
Pathans have had their slate cleaned so thoroughly they barely relate to their pre-Islamic culture. And it is highly, highly unlikely it was Hinduism. Their tribal social structure, which has remained unchanged for their entire lifespan as a culture, is a dead giveaway as to their lack of relation to even Vedic Indians. Hindus are not a tribal people; they are a settled, sedentary civilization and have been for thousands of years. Please don't insult Hindus like this. Pathans are not native Indians.

@brahmastra brahmastra You must understand that DNA matches are extremely common. Practically every human’s DNA matches another human’s by over 99.9999%. Maybe the Sindhis who were tested are Eastern Iranian migrants, who knows?
To make proper sense of DNA matches, these have to be compared on a relative scale. While the DNA between the Sindhis and Pashtuns are close; the DNA results would probably be even closer between Pashtuns and Kurds.
Culturally, linguistically, even socially, there is a greater deal of similarity between Pashtuns and Kurds than with other people. Both are organized as tribal societies with little to no stratification. Both are primarily nomadic as opposed to settled. Both are characterized by a recalcitrance to formal authority. May I suggest you look up some photos of tribal Kurds on the Internet. It would be hard to tell the difference between them and Pashtuns of KPK Pakistan and Afghanistan.
How they ended up in Eastern Iranian borderlands, which is what Afghanistan is, as I have said before, probably had to do with enforced migrations of the Pashtun tribes by the Persian Empire, something which was common practice in the administration of the Persian Empire of the time.
Pashtuns are not an ethnic Indian people; not anymore than Anglo Indians or Parsees are. That they have interacted historically with native Indians is a different thing. Does not make them native Indian. I hope this makes matters clear.

Even in Iran are various ethnic groups like Persians, Baluch, Lurs, Kurds, Turkmen, Azeri and so many more. None of them are Indian. I think there is a segment of Indians who have an inferiority complex towards Persians possibly for their lighter skin (just saying) but that says more about them than it does about any facts about India or the Indian population.
Pashtuns are not an Indian people. They have been in India; they predominantly came into the Indian subcontinent during the medieval Islamic invasions under the Ghurid, Ghori, Tughlaq, Seljuk and other tribes which invaded the country due to a possible vacuum in power in the country at the time. It was as foreign an invasion as any which came afterwards.
As for the Mahabharata and related, the people of that specification most likely migrated further eastwards to India afterwards. It is not like the Indian people learnt to migrate only after Air India was founded! People migrate all the time, and they take their culture and legends with them wherever they go. In all likelihood, the people of the Janapadas migrated eastwards into deeper India over the centuries due to various reasons.
They were not today’s Pashtuns! They were settled societies with sedentary cultures. Pashtuns are largely not, to this day. Just think about it; if today’s Pathans were indeed characters in the Mahabharata (my mind freezes in disgust at the thought), why did they not try and get civilized in the tens of centuries which have passed in between?
One feels some people wish to be known to be close to Pashtuns rather than considering the facts in their true light and with skepticism.
