    Started getting into FPV with my sons about three months ago, to start we purchased 2 x King Kong Tiny 6s (+Taranis X9D). After watching this video we upgraded from BF 3.0.1 to 3.2.4 firmware and followed the Project Mockingbird guide. The transformation is simple amazing. Thx JB.

      I gotten tiny 7 and tiny 7x. Would you recommend to do all the changes? I am sceptical about turning off the filters. Shorter motor life?

    Hey JB! Hope you are feeling better! Thanks for making this video. About to get my tiny whoop beta75 brushless in the mail! I hope this works as good with the brushless beta! Keeping my fingers crossed.

    Angle mode is like traction control on a race car. Helps it go fast without spinning out. I fly my tiny whoop in angle mode indoors and acro on 2 s outside. It’s beyond my skills to run acro through my course in the house. If I use acro indoor I end up crashing a whole lot more. Lol. It’s soo much fun. Thanks again Joshua for such a great video. You got me away from the DJI stuff into fpv. It’s cheaper and way more fun. And me being a electrical engineer fixing and building them are fun I enjoy building stuff. And if you build it your gonna know how to repair it no problem. Keep it up JB!!!!

    I actually followed the link to the Project Mockingbird doc from your original interview with Jesse and I could immediately feel the difference. I can easily zoom in and out of my dining room chairs and even a car seat handle without any issue in Angle mode now. I could never do it on Rate mode with my Whoop earlier.

    Just bought a little quad and about to apply everything you said here. I reviewed the Mockingbird first, then found your "interpretation" of it :0) I always learn from your little nuances mentioned during the videos. Like the mixing, and absolute value of the Elevator and Aileron settings. Thank you for what you do.

    NICE! I've been so busy at work I haven't had a chance to do the "official" video setup version, but this is great!
    BTW, Joshua, for your race tomorrow, make sure you try turning OFF "RC Interpolation"...yeah, OFF! It adds another layer of precision, getting rid of that latency and brushed motors don't seem to freak out (lack of active braking??), and I've found setting D Setpoint weight and transition to 1 gives me the feel I like for racing.
    Looking forward to your race video, and hopefully XaviFPV blows everyone off the track. :)

    Great tutorial! I set my Acrobee V2 up right along with your walk through a couple nights ago and frankly the result is astonishing. I really didn't expect it to be that dramatic. Sure enough, the thing just flies straight and fast like my TWRs but with possibly better throttle control! I can do fast whip around turns without dropping altitude much at all, and wide banking turns similarly. Really woke up the Beebrain! I also have a bunch of other whoop size quads I want to try this on now.

    Josh, thanks so much for this. I’m new to the hobby. I bought a Tiny 6 to fly in my apartment until the NY winter ends. I have been grinding away trying to learn FPV and rate mode indoors, in a 15x15 room. I was under the impression that rate mode was the way all the pros fly. It’s nice to hear that even the best fly these little guys in angle mode. I’m gonna head over to Project Mockingbird and reset mine and see how it works. I’ll leave the hardcore rate stuff until spring and hopefully a 5” quad for the summer.

    Just finished tuning my acrobee beebrain v2 with project MockingBird, and i gotta say, wow what a flying difference versus the stock tune, right off the bat was able to perform faster than usual laps around my house track in angle. Impressive! I normally fly acro so this was a interesting change of pace, acro felt more responsive as well. Massive thanks to JB and Project MB!
    TW Setup:
    - BeeBrain v2 stack
    - Gold motors
    - upgraded cockroach frame
    - 250mah HV batteries

    Such a cool idea. I got my first "tiny whoop" the other day to see what all the hubbub is about. It's been a ton of fun, but I couldn't get used to angle mode so I'm in airmode. Airmode can be tough indoors, so Project Mockingbird is perfect!

I just changed very few settings and now it corners like it's on rails. I never thought to use the mixer to bump throttle on the pitch/roll axis. Now if I could just figure out the mixer on a Taranis for flybar helis.

    ***PSA*** Increasing angle limit to around 75 or 80 lets you really get some speed going and still feels locked in since the strength of angle mode is so high. I've been flying on the mockingbird setup for around a month now with that minor adjustment and it's awesome!!!!

    Hi Joshua, I have been playing with a similar setup on my 3" don't forget to reverse your motors. the torque on the front motors will assist in yaw so as for example rolling/banking right spools up left front motor. I have been playing with raising angle limit and lowering strength and transition.

    Could not think of a better timing, I just began flying my Kingkong Tiny 6 a few days ago.
    I threw in the mockingbirds settings and yes, it flies way better!
    I only fly it in angle mode so I disregarded the settings for horizon and acro.
    I didn't set any mixing either, I prefer to do it myself when flying.
    But yeah, great tutorial, many thanks to you, Joshua, and to the Mockingbird project!

    I took these settings from this and applied it to my BetaFPV 65s. Seems to work as they are straight out, even though the PID's are nearly double what they were. Seems to be flying really well though, handling much better at the lower voltages. It is almost like it holds it together till the last moment, and you fall out of the sky.

    HOLY PROP!!!! I had so many doubts.... Well ok, I thought there will be some difference, but Oh My Joshua, this micro that I bought just freaking woke up!!!!
    I have Tiny6 (made by KINGKONG/LDARC) from BG and it flew ok (considering to what I expected) but:
    - it wasn't stable in low altitude (it was just wobbling in the turbulences)
    - sometimes it just got random twitches during hover
    - it was drifting randomly (even when I calibrated accelerometr and trimed it, it just drifted to different direction every flight)
    - it had relatively acceptable propwash handeling on altitude drops (but still far from perfect)
    After setting this Tiny6 accordingly to Project Mocking Bird, it just flies perfectly! I flashed BF to version 3.3.0 and I added third AUX switch with which I can reduce Pitch, Roll and Yaw sensitivity to 100, 50 and 30 % so I can handle it to my friends and they can control the drone because it's less sensitive with these dual rates (I didn't want to mess with those rates which are written in Project Mocking Bird because then I would have to modify throttle management in mixer of transmitter on roll and pitch... and I like to sometimes have the drone more agile).

    Hi, thanks for the video. I have done the mod to both my tiny ducted drones, E010 and E011 type frame, and I think the mix mod and angle rate change to linear did the trick, they both fly alot better in angle, much more floaty and more controll. I am trying to get horizon to feel more like mode 2 on a toy drone, since I use to have that tweaked pretty good, and was able to do flips and rolls better. Now it just death rolls, wich sucks. The mockingbird mod is amazing for racing, and the horizon mode feels more like angle for shure. It is a great starting point for tweaking to your own prefference

    Hey Josh, do you have a video explaining the curve functions and the symbols and what they mean? I'm new and have never got in to my taranis like that. But would love to learn.

  • @matthiaspogodda2288
    @matthiaspogodda2288 7 лет назад

    Hi Joshua,
    first, I really love your channel, awesome work! Learned a ton from your in-depth reviews and tutorials. Hope this full time thing works out for you, enjoy and good luck!
    On this one, are you sure the in-flight adjustment are setup correctly the way you are showing it? My understanding of how these adjustments work is that e.g. in your setup switching AUX3 to angle mode at 1000 would trigger/enable the adjustment, then the rate profile would be selected based on the AUX3 position, low (1000) -> profile 1, mid (1500) -> profile 2, high (2000) -> profile 3. In other words, the 'is in rang' turns the adjustment on, then the channel chosen as 'via channel' selects the rate profile. (Then one could save the adjustment made using stick command throttle/yaw/pitch low, roll high when disarmed, doesn't matter here we want this always on - thus the whole range could actually be selected as 'is in range'). The 'Slot' selection only matters when doing concurrent adjustments via the same channel, does not define which profile is selected.
    So with your modes setup of having angle at AUX3 low, you should see profile 1 being selected when enabling angle mode, but you want the linear rates configured in profile 2. Patrick had his angle mode on mid position, thus it worked for him. If angle mode is low, profile 1 should be the linear rates; if angle mode is high profile 3.
    I went through setting up a beecore V2 FC using Patrick's Project Mockingbird description myself recently and ran into the same issue. If I recall it right, Patrick had some comments about this in his document, too.
    Please correct me if I am wrong.....
    Greetings from Germany,
    Matt

    • @matthiaspogodda2288
      @matthiaspogodda2288 7 лет назад

      Ok, good. It would fly in any case just not with the intended linear rates.
      Anyway, guess I am trying to say if anybody following this does not get the linear rates when flicking the switch to angle mode, it might help to swap the rate profiles. There is another video that shows it with linear rates as profile 1: ruclips.net/video/b3OR-DD5Gbc/видео.html at about 5:55. That guy has angle mode low and the linear rates in profile 1. As me he is on Spektrum, but I don’t see how that would matter as this is an FC thing.
      Again, thanks a lot for your content!

    Hi Joshua just wondering if you'd consider doing a follow up video for this , im sure many others out there like myself would appreciate your thoughts on the results of this as you seemed slightly sceptical about a few of the settings. I've never flown an inductrix but i feel my ' tiny 6' flies pretty much spot on already (Obviously personal preference is a big factor here). Thanks

      It's a big improvement for almost everybody who tries it.

    I pasted in the diff all from project mocking bird, wound ip with a rapidly spinning acrobee lite. I took it back this to stock, as I don’t understand this stuff enough.

    When I "Change to PT1 and turn off all notch filters" my Qx65 starts to oscillate pretty bad for the 1st 30 seconds or so. When I put them back to stock, they stop. is PT1 an optional thing or are other settings reliant on this step?

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 лет назад

      If it makes your quad fly bad just don't do it.

      Ok, cool thanks. I just didn't know if other settings were dependent on this being changed to PT1 to work properly.

    I have a Tiny 6 running betaflight and I rock it in acro out side but in horizon in doors. I found that after seeing 2 different inductrix drones and the Tiny 6 kills the inductrix performance wise. It is all about knowing how to tune a brushed fc. You can go into it thinking its like a brushless. Throw that shit out of your head when tuning a whoop.

    I am going to do this when my betaflight inductrix arrives that JB.

    Wonder if this will work for brushless ‘whoops’ 🤔. I’ll have to try. Good post👍

    Please help!!!
    I followed the instruction you gave for the project mockingbird on my custom micro drone (tiny whoop). It was flying okay before I changed the settings but now after using the project mockingbird setting I have a few problems. I am noticing I am getting about half the thrust I used to get. Also my flight time decreased from 2 min to about a min. Do you have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Not sure if this helps much but i tried doing it with my ' tiny 6' and had very poor results. Im pretty sure ive had to flash back to 3.17 with pretty much default settings to get mine to fly how i like , i also prefer to use horizon rather than angle mode. Keeping in mind that you are running brushless motors these settings will no doubt be a mile off.

    We have race night at my local hobby store and the 2 guys the win all the time by a huge amount are flying acro

  • @dca7222

    Used to do this on my whoops with the throttle mix in angle. Only way to make em feel like a stock inductrix. Feels very similar to an Inductrix and gets that "point and go" Inductrix feeling back. I do prefer acro/air, personally. What are your thoughts on the bigger motor ducted style quads? The 7mm brushed motors are pretty great and provide that little bit of ooomph you wish even the high kv 6mm had.

    After going through this, my Kingkong Tiny-6 flies like on rails! I have the feeling that the mixer stuff should not only apply for Angle mode? Makes that sense? Anyhow Angle mode flying indoor with the Tiny-6 is perfect now - thanks Joshua to bring this to our attention!

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  7 лет назад

      Correct. The custom mixing stuff is only for Angle mode.

    Josh - I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on acro vs. angle in micro brushed quads. You're new to them with little prior bias, and fairly objective, and I would be very interested to hear your thoughts on the supposed advantages that you can't win a micro brushed quad race flying acro. I've been racing micro brushed for two years, and our local multiGP chapter has had every single micro brushed race in the last two years won exclusively by pilots flying acro. When you tell that to people in the Tiny Whoop community they look at your like you're crazy. I look forward to your thoughts.

    Thanks for all the info that you offer! Question, and forgive me if this is a stupid one, but i'm still learning, but have some experience with BF, and I just picked up a KingKong Tiny 6 and was wondering if this could be applied to this as well? Thanks!!

      Only if it runs Betaflight or Cleanflight.

    Hey Joshua was wondering where you change the settings around on a spektrum remote? I'd really like to know thaanks

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  6 лет назад

      What specific remote do you have? Most Spektrum remotes have a screen and buttons. If you have the DXe then it uses a smartphone app.

    Interestingly enough I am a thumbs pilot. However I found that the given angle rates were really really jittery. So I've just tried what I believe to be is a hybrid pinch, and actually dose rates make a heck of a lot of sense.
    I don't know if that's quite an obvious thing and I'm just late to the game but I think there might be something and this pinching business!

    Hi I have a Eachine Qx65 that I have flashed to 4.0.1. The quad binds, the quad arms, even displays in the OSD as armed. The blue light flickers on the board with stick input. The Reciever tap in Betaflight responds to all inputs. The problem is, is the motors do not turn on with throttle input, even after being armed. Any thoughts ?

    Good walk through as usual Josh. The Mockingbird setup made my aero bee fly well. I did notice that when i go into adjustments to set the rates to different modes, that choosing slot 1, 2, or 3 made no difference where the rate was on my mode switch. Rate 1 on Aux2 ( mode switch ) slot 2 aux 2 for stable mode rateprofile selection, is always at the bottom of the three position switch, rateprofile 2 middle switch, and rateprofile 3 top of the switch. I already had betaflight 3.2.3 on it, but i decided to re-flash firmware again thinking possible, something was corrupted. I ended up with the same results so for now i just went in and switched the rate profiles around so they would coincide with my mode switch position. As confusing as that all sound i was wondering if you or anyone els ran into the same issue?
    Thank you for all the great information you provide. I really enjoy watching your channel.

    I really wish, and looking for a micro quad that does freestyle in acromode but still is super light and non damaging in indoor environment with prop protection. Also brushless motors. Not going back to brushed and their constant expense of replacement. Something that runs 2S. Was looking at those 20mm F4FC+4/1ESC+VTX. Am I asking the impossible?
