Great news, and a very pleasant surprise. I would have never expected to hear about a spec from an unknown wrote selling for so much.

With something like that, I'd assume there are no points on the backend? Wonderful news, thanks for cheering us up!!

I wouldn't count that out - clearly the writer was able to get a very good deal in order to preemptively take the script off the table so... we don't know the details of how they might have sweetened the pot.

this is positive news - I'm a indy publisher - and occasionally run across a fresh and totally new story that would translate well to film - but I get a brick wall when trying to create a connection to get the story considered. I get they don't want an avalanche of mediocre crude .... but how is a professional to get in touch with another professional to put forward say - the top 2 of each year ?

It's all about relationships, and knowing somebody who knows somebody who can make an introduction for you. In lieu of those, look at the big screenwriting competitions as well as The Black List website to help create exposure for the work.

And the writer didn’t have an agent at the time of sale.

You are correct! The writer did not have an agent, but did have managers from Untitled on board. This is not unheard of, and I am sure that they set him up with a great entertainment lawyer to negotiate on his behalf. A few year's back, when Crosby Selander sold BRING ME BACK in a 7-figure sale (which was his first industry splash) he was in a similar situation: strong managers, great lawyers. He got with his managers post sale. I am sure agencies are courting Natan Dotan hard now!
