- A couple in the US have filed a lawsuit against tech company Lovo after they allegedly found AI copies of their own voices online.
"A tech company stole our voices, made AI clones of them, and sold them possibly hundreds of thousands of times," Linnea Sage said.
The firm has not yet responded to their claims or the BBC's requests for comment.
Lovo co-founder Tom Lee has previously said its voice-cloning software only needs a user to read about 50 sentences to create a faithful clone.

The worst of all with these AI companies are their subscriptions. After stealing and reproducing from many sources, they let you pay to access them.
In it's current form, generative AI is mostly theft, and should be treated as such. These tech companies need to be held accountable.
wasn't art copying each other called inspiration? Do you think mathematicians who actually worked on it - got a dime? Currently almost everyone calls themselves "artist" and some art can be really generated.
@@WojciechowskaAnna Using inspiration from other art is a false equivalence to generative AI. A better comparison would be music sampling, which requires copyright and royalties to the original owner. The morphing that generative AI does to input is only partially destructive to the source material (just like music sampling), which means part of the original work is directly used in the output.
@@ElectronicWasteland-p2x you miss the point. Did you ever thought how poor are mathematiciians? Without math used even in bradcasting the mustic - or this discussion -there would be no discussion. Yet nobody pays the money to mathematicians. Artists are very silly believing they are original.
@@WojciechowskaAnna Your argument makes no sense, and your spelling/grammar is horrendous.
@@WojciechowskaAnna Inspiration for humans sure, this is not human, when you can copy and paste movies its called piracy cause computer can replicate data at massive rates but you can still share your disk with your friend and that's fine. Piracy was also at one point just sharing of data but turns out can be exploited due to scale, same issue here. Its a bit nuanced but you definitely want some protection for jobs and what not.
This is what happens when technology precedes the laws that govern it. BY the time the law catches up, it's too late to reign in the tech. This is nothing new and will only get worse, especially with AI which will dramatically change how the world operates. The public has access, the corporations have access, and if it can make money it will be used exploitatively. The concept of individuality will blur as AI replicates how we look, talk, move, etc. Welcome to the future. Good luck fighting it.
Well I am just speechless
This is not Artificial Intelligence, its Artificial Legality
What is scariest is the fact AI will copy almost anything we do in the future, not only the voice but also the face, gestures, handwriting, whole bodies, manners, feelings...
Thats ok as long it helps make humanity progress and abundant someday. Don't be a selfish thinking
I hope that these voice actors win bigger than big - so big that no tech companies ever try to do this again. Problem is, it's likely that these companies eventually will be able to 'grab' electronic recordings of voices and alter them enough such that the voices will be distinguishable from the originals. I really hate this AI cloning sh*t.
Nope they ain't wining, just look at the voice sounds very different then original. They have given their audio for training research and the audio which they presented as evidence is a lot different, almost as if it's a different person.
I'm supporting human voice actors 100%. Human voice belong to human, and human voice works such as narration, voice over and other types of work used by human voice must be done by human voice, it's absolutely their rights (in context). AI have no right to occupy and use human voice for voice works, even IT can do that. And to be more clear, this is not about two humans have similar voices, that'd be a difference case (me and my brother have almost the same voice, but we don't work in voice acting). Those companies that using AI voice generators for voice works should be sued to bankrupt.
This is what happens when you let the Genie out of the bottle and don't teach it how to play nice and now it's too late.

"the voice actors have since been removed" almost always seen as an admission of guilt. Hope they get sued for a lot of money because stealing someones voice is far more damaging than stealing a product. They have no control over what scripts their voice is being used with.
.....and Elon stole all data from twiter for his AI training project
Honestly who uses twitter anymore
@@potoo6122I can say the same about your lack of basic punctuation, however hundreds of millions of people a day use it. Why do you think ketamine musk uses it to throw a tantrum on?
It’s trivial for the companies to remove those voices and retrain with voices of people they pay. Getting a couple hours of an average generic voice like theirs is cheap. The market for highly paid voiceovers is mostly gone, unless they are distinctly recognizable celebrity voices; even those can be trained on by hiring people with voices very similar to those celebrities like OpenAI did with a Scarlett Johannesson sound-alike voiceover artist.
This is crazy - I thought this was just a money grab until I actually HEARD them sound the EXACT SAME
I was in discussions to use my voice with Eleven Labs. They were so unorganized that it took 10 months to get to a point where they went in a different direction. I have no confidence in the company personnel but their tech is good.
Artificial Thievery.
It's fine. As long as AI improves fast to help humanity. Unlike you. Thinking always negative

Then what options are left for AI voices?
@@alexsilent5603 why do you think we need them? how about we actually hire people?

I just think it's crazy that anyone would support AI in the first place 😮🤷♂️
I support AI, it’s a tool. Once a law is made so is the trap, but that happens with everything. It’s a process.
it should be our servants, our tools, and not be Us.
Yeah why would we support a technology with the potential to vastly reduce the cost of basically everything. We now live in an age where I can generate beautiful artwork for my weekly D&D game for free. I can put together a professional sounding radio advert for a local church fund raising event without spending hundreds hiring in a voice artist. I can have ChatGPT generate code, work up project plans and generally act as a small team of professional producers and coders for the unreal video game I've been trying to build for years. This is amazing, incredible tech that has the potential to completely change the game of human economic and creative output. Yes there are dangers and we're going to need to quickly build an economy that doesn't have human labour as its foundational component (though its debatable if that's really been true for some time). But we can't go back, we need to go forward and find the ways this tech can improve the world while mitigating the short term downsides.
AI can be a great tool for things that can actually help you but I also think that AI can be dangerous and I don’t think just anyone should be using it because it can be harmful when it involves your life and personality and not to mention your voice and people use it for identification fraud now because it’s so easy. only thing I’ve used AI for is animations like for blender and rendering stuff
Supporting it in theft is a no, supporting it in the betterment of our learning process yes.
yet another reason why a guaranteed basic income is long overdue
The trouble is that the audio recordings were likely used for training the AI to give it the ability to mimic those voices. Mimicry is a grey area in copyright law. I have had my own creative ideas taken from online and used in very popular and well-known fiction, for which I never received a single cent or acknowledgement (and which shall remain nameless as I have no desire for conflict). However, they can simply say they changed the idea 'sufficiently' to make it original. Every creative idea stems from pre-existing material. In the end, yes it would have been nice to receive an acknowledgement but mimicry is flattery. I am glad someone found my creative input inspiring and valuable. The problem arises when people depend on the primary material for their bread and butter.
AI is going to replace all of us at some point. Voice actors are the tip of the iceberg. Our only means of fighting this is to identify the AI products that are using stolen identities (voices/ faces/ performances) and not purchase those products. For that we need to have complete transparency in where those identities come from and if the people have been compensated. Any company not being transparent should be put out of business. Best wishes to these voice actors!
I am sueing Apple for making "Personal" voice.
even AI can stole so many cartoon characters as well.
from spongebob to squidward, from plankton to Mr.Krab.
and many more.
is getting creepy in the world of AI
I believe Lovo stole Grover Gardner's voice too... I heard it on this video. He has narrated many of Lois McMaster Bujold's audiobooks. Wish I knew how to tell him.
Sure, they should have been asked to sign a contract as for any other job. Major GDPR bridge and theft.

Yeah but AI doesn't exist, its just a marketing slogan, so their case is moot to begin with.
These people sound super normal. How are they voice overs?
😂😂😂😂😂 they have become the jobs they have
Because they are attractive. How do you think Bieber got screwed by Diddy?
I was thinking the same thing
Everything is a remix, creativity is taking many things you've seen or heard before and putting them together in a different way. AI can create, but just like us if you take shortcuts to creating something new, you end up copying something existing.
A.i can't create anything new, only the data it's fed. It has no agency.
It's not that deep
A I will Not stop at this.
Humanity will learn?
I think the real problem here is that AI is ultimately going to replace many jobs without new jobs appearing leading to an inevitable decline in employment rate. If we no longer need humans to run the economy then we are going to need a new way of distributing wealth. I don't think banning AI is the solution, we need to prepare for an automated economy and design new policies to adapt to this new world.
