I love the approach you and Adam are taking with Colt's running development. You guys are doing it right! You see so many kids getting burnt out and injured in high school - it's sad. A balance of cultivating a lifelong love of running along with realizing potential is key.

Love the absolute heart share in your event tent situation. I love that you took that moment alone to get the emotions out because we all need that moment in whatever situation life throws at us. The marker would probably make me cry all over again because it was so sweet. His love and support for you is shown on his chest every time he wears it. ❤

The merch tent at JO XC nationals is the worst! We were so disappointed that the Nike USATF sweatshirts were the only option. Time for a new brand to get involved with kids running. Nike does not own the space!!! I felt your tears but loved your support of Colt and his ultimate support of you. What a cool moment. ❤

Kara - thank you for sharing. Your vulnerability is appreciated. ❤❤❤ It's hard to separate the "art" from the "artist". It's so hard not to support companies with problematic practices for a multitude of reasons. Voting/supporting with your dollar is such a struggle.

I appreciated the trail/ultra content in this episode. Would love more of this. Maybe look into mammoth trail fest that tim tollefson runs. Though it's a September race, so would potentially conflict with fall marathon schedule.

Tim has done an awesome job! Would love to check it out at some point even if it’s just as a spectator, but yeah running/racing it would be cool too!

On a lighter note from the other comments, seriously, you both need to call customer service from United/Delta to get status. Sometimes when you are so loyal to an airline, they help you waive that $500 or work with you on the "but you never flew" miles that you're short to get your upgraded status. And if you get a no the first time, call again because a second person might be more gracious than the first. Good luck! Hope you get that well deserved bougie life!

Almost had me in tears but it was just something in my eye . . . ;o)
Running down hill trails you really do just need to do it more and go to the gym and do leg extensions and squats. You also have to train the nervous system. I could not do it a couple of years ago but I can now and I'm 70 years old and never ran anything till I was 68. I'm mostly just a hiker and backpacker.

re: collegiate club XC/TF, swimming has been doing something similar for a few years and it seems that it has really taken off! As far as I know they even have their own national championships (!!) but it sounds like it's built on inclusivity overall. Also US Masters Swim has embraced that avenue and encouraged college club swimmers to compete at USMS meets as well. It would be really cool to have college club running take off similarly.

I'm 64. in my day I knew a lot of kids who were in high pressure high school programs who were sick of it by college. Competition should not be the priority until college. Also not having early success leads to higher motivation. The best kid in Little League often just gets by on talent. They don't develop a work ethic! Dan

I love the idea of club teams after college. They do this in Europe. Clubs with good coaches for all athletes, You might find great athletes who develop late or everyday runners who love to run and train.

It’s unfortunate Nike sponsors USATF. I’m sure they influenced the site to make sure no other brand of apparel could be sold there. No brand should be sponsoring the governing body. I don’t buy Nike either for how they treated you and other female athletes and for protecting Salazar.

There are enumerable issue in the world to cry about but our emotions are what they are. We cry when what we are dealing with comes over us. You could also say there are bigger issues to talk about then sports but there are plenty of other channels for that . . . Dont belittle her feelings.
