- Hey y’all today I will be going to the Lackawanna Cutoff. This is a area with tons of abandoned train engines it’s located near the Port Morris Train Yard in Roxbury NJ. Here you will see NJ Transits retired alp44 engines. And these engines are abandoned and covered in graffiti.

I upload videos every other day so make sure to be on the lookout for more amazing content being uploaded to my channel.
Nice Video, Transit wasted these locomotives and they were in perfect running conditions at the time of their retirement.
True but I love what they did to these it leaves us to explore them
@@drewr5119Welp, According to my sources if you arent a Transit Employee you cant go there because its trespassing correct?
@@njtransitrailfan4031 I explore abandoned places all the time a no trespassing sign means nothing to me
@@drewr5119 ah but arent you the 0853 engineer, but transit could care less about if you went or not but be careful
What’s with the old train trestle that crosses over I-80 just before you cross the Water Gap and enter PA?
That it’s on this line
Hello Hope all is well with you and your family too. I'm doing awesome. Great video. Question Did they remove those abandoned trains? Replace them and the railroad tracks with a bicycle path.
This railroad is being restored for Amtrak service I don’t know if they have gotten rid of the trains. The abandoned railroad becoming a bike trail is the Old Boonton Line from Montclair to Jersey City.
Just found this video but this guy actually helped save the Lackawanna cut off from development, and does numerous detailed updates of construction along the cut off. His channel is called @Lackawana Cut-off forgot his name but great videos.
The legendary Chuck Walsh
Chuck is awesome 😎
I actually liked the ALP44's. I have 2 models of them in HO Scale from Atlas Model Railroad Co. as well as some of the multi level cars. And yes, the GP40PH-2's are excellent locos. I love their motive sounds when pulling off from a station stop.
So, Ive got some time to answer your questions. Yes we are restoring the line. It runs all the way to the Delaware Water Gap. You explored that big viaduct on one of your earlier videos. From there the line is active all the way to Scranton. Amtrak is restoring passenger service to Scranton, and NJ Transit is going to reactive the stations which are still along the cut off. Now as for your comment about us not running trains on weekends, true. But Dover and Rockaway does run frieght through there. I wouldnt worry about trespassing. As you saw, people ride quads and stuff out there...even in the yard. Final note, you took the long way. Center street takes you right to the dead line almost. Oh wait, also the trains in the yard are on ground air and ground power. Sometimes theyre running because maintenance is being done.
Thanks for educating me more about this

@@austinspringer5153 I know who you mean. Ive met him on the train. Cant think of his name either.
The ALP44s are 5 minutes from my house!! Im always on the cut off or the Sussex branch trail. Port Morris yard is where I start work everyday, train 660.
Drew, Please listen to me, stop kidding yourself about train movements on Sundays or any other times Rule M states "They (Employees ) must expect the movement of trains or cars at any time, on any track, in either direction" please obey this, your engineer friend is a FOOL for telling you "no trains on Sunday", walking on tracks or on the paths is dangerous, stay still when filming, I learn this as a kid now I'm 67 years and Rule M is a must to live by, we are Rail buffs and we don't own the Railroad(s).
There are no trains on Sunday tho… Plus, if there were to be a train, you’d hear it. Especially a buff like drew would be able to recognize the sound of a train approaching even before you see it.. Even on a weekday, I would walk on the track.
I work for nj transit. I'm currently working on restoring the Lackawanna cut off. So yes the rail line is being redone.
Nice there restoring it for Amtrak service right?
@@drewr5119 yeah as well as nj transit connection up to andover and sparta nj at some point. Andover station is being built currently.
Awsome Catch Dude!
I can tell ur new to this stuff. Glad u got to see a part of New Jersey history
Did alp44 4404 have wasps in there? Because I don’t know if there are other alp44 locomotives that have wasps in there.
I don’t know they probably all do.
Another youtuber said that the ALP 44 were decommissioned because they could not pull the newer double decker passenger cars.
Than is correct!
They had severe reliability issues and are very cramped. The 46s are in the same boat for being unreliable
Cool~
Really like your video. Can’t believe they would leave engines out of use. Maybe I could restore them and put them back in use instead of just sitting there becoming a home for insects and spiders.
As a kid I always thought these were ugly. The look nice and ugly at the same time.
Not ugly enough to get left for dead though jeez. I think the cab and driver space is really nice.
The horn is the knob just to the left of the power knob.
ALP-46 was the right move.

Excellent view of the “behind the scenes stuff”
Top 10 video!
Can u give me the Exact Coordinates of this area and what street it is off of
The coordinates are 40.9083161, - 74.6709948 and it’s located off of Center St
I agree, these were VERY ugly. I never liked them as a kid. ALP 46 was definitely a good move.
But they aren't ugly enough to just plop them in the middle of nowhere left to die.

I used to ride those all the time and I used to work for Njt
you might not know about this but in the past people have been arrested by the nj state police for stealing parts off the trains in the yard simply because local neighbors called the police.
I don’t steal parts thanks 🙏 for your concern
Sad to see alp44s that could still function in abandonment or “storage” just because the multi levels being too heavy
The double deckers gotta go
We’re is this?
Rockaway Township NJ
It's crazy that the ALP-44's have been out of service and just lying on this cutoff for over a decade at this point
That’s the dead line it’s pretty cool but people made a mess of the 44s
so sad 😢
ALP-44 were rail kings. but sadly they got doomed when the multilevels came. at LEAST 4424 was preserved recently! horn and all!
Not horn and all! Unfortunately, no horns or bell....
@@Wes8761yeah you are right. I only noticed that after I went to the ones in this vid about 7 months ago
Noo, the alp46 replaced the 44s. The Alp45s replaced some of the gp40s and the F40s
does anyone the exact location
Lookup Lackawanna Cutoff on Google maps
Going to Andover on the cutoff before the end of this decade. It is going to happen.
Wow you found some concrete ties! A lot of times the track doesn't get replaced, but the old wooden ties do get discarded
Yo you shaking the camera like crazy
Because I don’t have a tripod
No Tresspassing!"
Mind your own business
hello this is new jersey transit and new jersey state property you can get 30 days in jail and up to a $1000 dollar fine in court for trespassing on nj state property.
Thanks for your concern but there are no weekend service trains and it’s completely safe
@@drewr5119 it's still new jersey transit/ new jersey state property nj transit or new jersey state police and local police can come at any time, and I made a mistake it is a felony charge to trespass on state property up to $1000 fine and or up to 90 days in jail!
9:19 yep that’s the horn
no it's not. The horn was located to the left side of that and you can see it a couple frames after 9:19
Thats the sand wobble switch
Also some freight engines have bathrooms
That makes sense cuz they go much further distance
Shouldn't of walked over the active main and trespassed. You were asking to get arrested or even killed
Thank you for your concern but this railroad does not run on weekends
@@drewr5119 that's just scheduled trains. Trains could still be moving at any time on any day
You still need permission to go there.
Yeah ok
15 minutes of video evidence of trespassing and who knows what else 🤷🏼♂️
Sometimes it’s ok to just enjoy life it is ending so get out and do what you like!
Dude you are trespassi
ng and can get arrested.
Ok don’t worry about it.
Ewwww ALP45DPs are ugly. The ALP-44s are way better!
👎👎👎👎👎
Christ hold the camera straight or stable for a few secs, my head hurts now. :)
Sorry about that
