I have been watching water polo since I was I beautiful little boy back in Cuba, and a neighbor bought a TV. In 1980 I went to Budapest to study at the University of Economics. Had the privilege of meeting many of the big names back the. Including the best ever Tamás Faragó. These people spend thousand of hours training for this. 99% of the population would not last 1 minute playing this game. Congratulations to Hungary once again. Dénes Vargas, Gergő Zalánki, Vámos Márton, etc. should not be allowed to retire without teaching their shooting techniques to the new generation of Hungarian water polo players.

    I don't understand.
Why the h_ll do ypu keep persidsting to play a zone defense when playing a giant like him?
Do you want to loose or what?
Almost all goals he creates is from being a vey good shot given room/space/time in a zone defense, from either a player sent off or simple full team zone defense.
Which is a killing strategy whenever a player like him is in the water.
I've made own share of goals when given so much room and time to outsom and outgun the keeper ...
Or are they afraid of him, give his name and fame?

a good center with position is even more dangerous than his shot

It is not that simple. There are other great players in the team with Dénes and in the moment you start to play 1 vs 1, they can play the center player and either it will be a goal or a man up for the offensive team.. Those options aren't better. However, in this case, they can try to force a zone play and a 1vs1 play exclusively for Dénes in the same time and make a "less" dangerous player shoot but on this level of water polo, this is truly a hard thing to execute as almost every player is a good shooter (especially in a national team).

I understand your ambition for a recognition, but this is a ficticious nationality with a funny language. Slavic language mutilated by a freemason Kazinczy. Do your DNA test to see who you are.

?? What is alternative? The centers are world class elite. You have to play zone. Either center will score or you will be forced to play powerplay defense which is then a zone defense with a man down.

It's so simple so that I do not understand the other teams tactics. Mount a classic 1:1 defense that eliminates the strongest player(sl) and mount a zone defense for the remaining team. Offer a strong defender that shadows and hinders the attacker in every move he makes. If he plays the mid front attack position play with one guy behind and before him bl9cking the pass line to him.
It s a strategy we use countless times against strong attackers. Helps us always and many times to beat stronger opponents.
Attackers getting taken out of the game room and position like that get frustrated and always start making mistakes and fouls.
And usually the opponents team tactics is based on these stronger players and is effectively disrupted.
At least try ... Leaving such a guy free beeing around is certain suicide ... I would have loved to get that much room in my days ...

@@MrRFasters There is a logic flaw here.
It is not a matter of tactic. If you want to press Varga and play 5v5.... you are playing 5v5, which is a more difficult game to play, easier for offense, more work for defense. You are also making assumption that other 5 player are not good. Press Varga play zone vs Zalanki and Vamos... good luck. Press them, play zone vs center defender and other world-class left side attacker, difficult game for goalkeeper. Press them, opportunity for center entry. Zone only one player or only two player, opportunities for driving and catch and shoot. It is less of an issue of making offense making mistakes as much as it is difficult for defense to not make mistake. There is no "tactic" at this level of play. At this level it is what team make the least mistake and what opponent can do the "simple" better, and making more complex gameplay with tactic usually doesn't win at this level. This is not District or Masters. This is World and Olympic, the offensive fundamental concept is punish defensive mistake. The gameplay of offense forces a zone. You eventually have to zone off Varga. This is not a mistake. Poor coverage of the shooting lane is a mistake. Goalkeeper making mistake is a mistake that is proper for offense to punish.
Again, it is not a matter of tactic. It is a matter of technical skill execution at a high level, and highlight reel is just world class player with extremely high level of proper technical skill execution punishing defensive technical mistakes.

@@justabluedream You think pressing can t be done at this level. Why soo many teams can muster effecrmtive full press when fighting back from running behind, in the end game or when under siege on a string attack run? Im simply stating it s a strategy that works on all levels, since defence is probably up to strength and speed par withe the attack. Their both Olympic teans you know ... And you don t need the same talented defender to neutralize top playets. That s the good side of it.
You seem to presume the other team is fundamentally weaker. They did reach and compete at the Olympics as well. The won t be pussies nor push overs.
It s not the case that tactics goes out the door when you reach a certain level ...
Ive played and coached national level and used full press to disrupt. Yes. It requires strength, energy and discipline, but it can be done and it often needed to neutralize the biggest talent.
As is also done in soccer, handball, baskettball, ice and field hockey.
Difficult? Yes. Agressive? Yes. Its a battle? Yes. Do-able? Yes.

All the players are strong not just him. His chance of scoring from 7m is lower than scoring from a 6 on 5 which is what you are going to end up with if the ball goes into the centre. A goalie has a much better chance of saving a long shot than one from 6 on 5.@@MrRFasters
