Great information, appreciated that I didn't have to call a technician to debug the steps mentioned. Still my Samsung has all the sensors, cap, and diode checked good, but it still doesn't heat up. Time to buy another, I'm surprised their price is still the same after 4 years!
My GE microwave from 2005 finally crapped out. At first ruclips.net/user/postUgkxO_Bc204MGjxDl87cOKcdgaRhzSqGmv_g I was unsure because I was looking for something with the exact same features. Found it with this one. Interior space cavity was large, but the outside was smaller than my old one. I love the one-button push for 1-6 minutes, and the 30 second add or 30 second start. and MOST IMPORTANTLY, I love how you can adjust the power level during cooking. The reviews said it could not be done, but this marked all the other boxes. and happy to say, it does. I can hit 1 minute start, and change the power level from 10 to 5, 30 seconds in, without interruption. my favorite feature!
I have this exact problem- newer model. Did some diagnostics over the phone with Samsung, still unresolved. Called the repair shop. They charge $100 to walk in the door, then $75/hr for labor, plus parts. 2020 Samsung microwave runs but doesn’t heat anything . Checked all door micro switches, all 4 thermo safety switches, transformer and magnetron. The diode on the high voltage capacitor is bad. Found all test procedures for each item on you tube. All you need is a multi meter and a good 9volt battery to test the diode.
Does anybody know where Samsung typically put the spec sheet that goes along with the microwave on the inside? Like where do they normally put these at , I have a microwave over the range like this one In video
Great video, thanks. I have the 2.0 cu. ft. model me20h705mss with the exact same symptom. However, Samsung told me none of the fuses or cut outs affect heating on my model & if any fuse or cut out were to blow, all power would be cut to the unit. They assured me it was my Magnetron. Would you be so kind to list the model number of your unit? It would be very helpful to us.
So mine (same model) just went out last night. Stopped heating, gave off a bit of a burnt smell. Unplugged and let it cool off overnight. Manufactured Jan '20. Checked fuses, all good. Lights and control panel work. Heated one thing (small cup of water). Took 1 minute to get mildly warm. Little slow in my opinion but ok. Tried some left over ribs and after 3 minutes they were still bone cold (pun intended). Checked those parts you replaced but didn't see any charred ends. How would I test some of these components? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Don't really have the money to replace this thing right now.
Mine looks identical on the inside and wouldn't heat anything. Magnetron is good. Diode, capacitor, and transformer all test bad. The plastic on one connector (white wire in the white & blue wire set) that goes into the primary (left side) side of rhe transformer is burnt. Im tempted to replace the transformer, capacitor and diode, but i don't want to drop all that money into this just to find out that didn't solve the entire problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
Not sure if you'll see this, as the video is over a year old, but I've got the same microwave. Completely stopped heating. Took it apart and the thermofuse had no signs of being bad. So I replaced the diode and that did not work. What else is there?
A lot of these also have a thermal cutoff on top of the magnetron you have to check that one for continuity and if it does not have continuity than you found the problem however if that does have continuity it could be a door switch the magnetron itself it could also be the Transformer or even the main board the thermal fuses are always the first ones you should check but I will check the one that's on top of the magnetron. By-the-way thermal fuse and thermal cutoff is the same part I just sometimes use one name and sometimes the other
I have a 2 year old Sharp smo1854ds that won't heat food at all. Ever since I bought it new it would go into some sort of thermal protection shutdown when cooking certain foods, such as boiling water, popcorn, etc. and the microwave would completely power down, no clock, nothing for about 30 minutes until it cooled off. But now it simply won't heat food at all. Any tips here as to what this sounds like? I know it could be a multitude of things, but any ideas would be helpful. Thank you man!
I'm annoyed that have to be doing anything at all for a mw that is only a few years old. I replaced the thermal plug and the fuses seem to be good so not sure what else I can try. Display and power don't work. Guess I will have to price out a new one.
I have similar issue on our microwave, looks like it's working but the water never heats up. I tested this thermo fuse and it didn't have any continuity so I assumed it was bad but when I started to research it some more, I think the one on the right (at least in my frigidaire microwave) controls the hood fan and nothing to do with the microwave itself. I have to confirm that by running it with the two leads disconnected to see if the hood fan will work. But the other thing I read was that this fuse only shows continuity at a certain temperature i.e. it's supposed to turn on the hood fan automatically if there is a lot of heat coming off the range below it. So I think that means it's hard to test it normally. Does this make sense to you?
Yes there is a thermostat on certain models that turns on the vent fans. However in the case of the video the one I replaced was bad and wouldn't show continuity the way I tested mine was I bridged the wires that ran to the suspected part and ran it a few times in a control environment and it worked flawlessly which lead me to believe it was not the fan thermostat and I needed to replace it.
