Excellent segment! I'm part Kashubian. I visited the Hel Peninsula last year specifically to connect with Kashubian cuisine and history. I had an outstanding fish-and-tubers meal at a hotel in Jastarnia. I really appreciate the insights into how Kashubians cook and eat at home. Thank you so much for this episode.

It's fitting that you mentioned fish. Look up Jones Island. It's a peninsula in Milwaukee,WI. Kashubian immigrants settled there and formed a fishing village along Lake Michigan. The fishing village is no longer there, but there is a piece of Kashubian history in America.

Thank u for bringing me one step closer too my heritage…it means a lot too learn this as most of my ancestors have passed away …I watched your other video on polish cuisine and I didn’t even realize how much even my parents were influenced…one of my first solid foods as a baby was picked herring…apparently I immediately puked it up all over my grandfather…I also remember eating kieshka (blood sausage) and of course glumbkies(stuffed cabbages) and kielbasa an of course perogie And many others!!!
    Thanks again 🙏

Our northern brothers! There is a joke that Kashubians are Gorals that didn't get to Chicago and Gorals are Kashubians are Gorals that lost their way on the pillgramage to Jerusalem.

Turbut is a lovely fish and very pricey today. I'm not a lover of fresh water fish, so Perch would not be for me, just like Pike and Carp. Although Trout and Salmon are great due to the earthy taste. Flounder is is just like Plaice and is really nice to the palate. Not many restaurants list it, owing to the fact it looks and tastes just like plaice, but a lot cheaper than plaice.
