Been tons of docs, but a lot of it is down to family estates giving permission. Otherwise, it’s hard to make a good bio pic. Also, many of the most important moments of his life were caught on camera. There’s still a lot more to be told though and it would take someone willing to not just make a movie that is like a greatest hits album + some fights between early members, but actually get into some more contentious events and the nitty gritty to actually show us something new.
It was so sad watching this. On my computer, to my right, I have a playlist with thumbnails of him smiling, laughing, talking, singing- moments of him alive. Watching this rips my heart seeing a great soul and strong heart boxed in a casket, gone. I shivered hearing his songs, "Zimbabwe" and " Babylon System" as the casket was being carried. It ripped me again. But the mission God sent him to do in this world- the consciousness of our rights, our value, the message of love, his memories and melodiously transcending music will last forever and never be cast in a shadow. Such a sad time, I was a seventeen year old when I heard the news on the radio at work, I wanted to go home and slap my Kaya record on the player and chill for the rest of the day and night, next day and night too. Hearing the Wailers play at his funeral makes me wonder if that was the last true spirited performance of the band before the inner squabbles between some members and all of them with Rita started. She sided with Bob's manager, Don't Taylor and stole money from the Estate (Bob left no Will, he died intestate) and built herself a recording studio calling it "Studio One" she stole the copyright, sold most of his music catalogue to Chris Blackwell and didn't act in accordance with her duties as Administrater of his Estate, for which she was stripped. Rita forged Bob Marley's signature on several documents and was found guilty. she later worked with Court officials after admitting the forgeries and the state went after the New York Lawyers who signed off on her forged documents. at least it is all pretty much sorted out now with Tuff Gong Enterprises, The Marley Estate, Marley Coffee and Bob's half brother, the American named Booker who was selling images of Bob Marley claiming Bob said he could.
