Yamaha Error 30 and Error 41 - How to fix

- It is not easy when your bike stops working and the engine is not starting again. Yamaha Error 30 and Error 41 are quite common, either when you fall down, or when the tilt sensor outlives its time and starts generating errors.
That sensor tells if the bike is upright or not, and shuts down the engine when it passes a certain threshold. The theory behind it is sound, but for those that use that use the XT660Z Tenere, or the XT660R off road, know that falling is part of the sport, and that means, the sensor keeps activating. That is beyond annoying!! Not only you have to deal with a fallen bike, you have to deal with a tinny sensor reminding you that you screwed up. That is definitely not for me, neither is something I want to get Charlotte through on a regular basis.
Solution? Eliminate the sensor. Sadly, that is not possible, however, it is possible to fool the system by telling it the bike is always upright.
So let me break it down for you step by step.
Error code 30 (the bike went down) and or error code 41 (tilt sensor error) will not allow the engine to run.
On some bikes, this error code is displayed directly on the bikes dashboard. On my bike, it is not, so I have to go into the bikes dIAG screen, find it and erase it. And how do we do that?
1 - Press SELECT and RESET and do not release
2 - Turn the key on
3 - After 8 seconds the display will show dIAG, you can now release the display and setup buttons
4 - Press SELECT and RESET again and do not release
5 - 2 seconds later, the diagnostic setup is activated - bellow I’ll link all the codes. You can now release SELECT and RESET
6 - Pushing SELECT or RESET, move until d61
7 - d61 will show you the error code. In this particular case, we are expecting to see error 30 or 41. If you are doing this preventively, and nothing is wrong with the bike, no error code should come up, and you should see 00
8 - Press the ON and OFF kill switch. The error should disappear and 00 should appear
9 - Pushing SELECT or RESET, move until d62
10 - d62 shows the number of error the bike has in memory. You should see 01, or if you are doing this preventively, 00 will show up
11 - Turn your key off
Now you have erased the error from the bike, however, we have not yet bypassed the system. If you had an error 30 and you did not wish to bypass the system, at this time you could start your bike and leave. In the case of error 41, it may or may not fix it. The sensor may really be damaged.
From my research, I found that the large majority of problems the sensor has, AKA damaged, is that the pendulum comes loose, creating false errors, and that, we can fix and we can bypass.
1 - Remove the sensor from the bike. It is located on the right side, between the engine and the airbag
2 - After you have disconnected the sensor from the wiring, take the front whitish lid off. It will have 3 pressure points
3 - With tweezers remove the rubber ring
4 - With tweezers, gently pull the plastic housing of the inside out. DO NOT pull by the board's connectors.
5 - Memorize the position, so you know how to insert the kit back together
6 - Assemble the kit (plastic housing + electric board + pendulum) and set it on a table. Make sure the pendulum sits perpendicular to the table, and not at an angle
7 - Using super glue for plastics, glue the pendulum against the plastic housing. Wait for it to dry
8 - Reassemble the sensor and install back on the bike.
If you want to verify you did a good job, you need to go back to the dIAG setup and go to screen d08.
Values between 0.4 to 1.4 the sensor say the bike is upright.
Values between 3.8 to 4.2 the sensor say the bike is horizontal, stopping the engine.
Before you glue your sensor, you can go to screen d08, take your bike off the side-stand and move it from side to side. You will see the values changing in real life. The same will happen if you hold the sensor in your hand while still connected to the bikes wiring.
If you glued the pendulum correctly, you can now move the sensor or the bike freely and the read will always be between 0.4 to 1.4, thus bush fixing the tilt sensor error.
This is something I did to my bike, but keep in mind this is a bush fix and not a brand endorsed fix to the problem. Do this at your own risk and recognition.

You're life saver brother! Bike went dead on me while on the highway. Only to realise sensor had come off the mounting bracket, most like due to vibration, as one of its mounting screws had gone walkabouts! 🤣 I've gone ahead with this process! Thanks man! Very helpful 😎👍🏼
Makes me extremely happy to know it helped you! 💪 Knowing that is all the thanks I need ✌️🏍
Loving the energy in this video man, keep hustling and your channel's going to blow up.
Thanks so much for putting this out there. I don't have this issue yet, but I did the fix anyway, because I want the machine as rugged as possible. Bought a used sensor off of eBay and glued that, saving my original one just in case I change my mind.
Thanks for the words!!
That is a nice idea, having one working on the bike with the fix and having the original one for a latter day if needed. Very well done! 💪
✌️🏍
Oh wow. I just had an accident with my fz6, error 30 shows up. I tried putting the sensor in in different positions, what I didn't know is that there should be a pendulum! Mine got lost, so I'm gonna have to figure out a getaround... thx for the help mate
I'm sorry to know you had an accident, hope all is well!
And my pleasure,, if I could be of help, that makes me happy! 💪
Just disconnect it and build a voltage divider across the loom plug pins by putting a 1kohm resistor across positive and sense wire (Grey/Red and Yellow/Green on my Yamaha) and a 250ohm across negative and sensor wire (Grey/Black and Yellow/Green on my Yamaha). DISCLAIMER: Do this at your own risk but worked for me
Always good to have other ideas on the table. Can you just confirm which Yamaha you own, for reference? 💪
I can't find my tilt sensor. I have a 2011 yamaha r1 red edition
I'm sorry, I have no idea where it may be on that bike :(
Thank you so much for this video and explanation. It solved my problem.
Makes me very happy that it helped!! 💪
I have error code 30 and 41. When i check in the diag 08 i see a value of 0.6. So that should be right. Altough i still have code 30 and 41 in the error code history. Is it possible that my bike wont start (or start 50% of the time) due something damaged? Or is that not the case, since my bike gives the right value of 0.6.
Have you reset the codes by using the kill switch once you are inside each code display? ruclips.net/video/oD_oyqBH_os/видео.html
I've been there... If you have and it's still there, I would potentially check if there is nothing loose inside the sensor, potentially even glue it in a different position to get a more neutral number. Not that it would change anything, but it would please my weird mind 😅 if still no solution, sadly I'm out of ideas... as I said, I'm not a shop mechanic, so my knowledge caps at a lower level
@@BNAdv no problem. My voltages in the diagnostic is 11.6 should be 12+. I have a hard time starting in the morning (cold). Almost no problems starting mid day. Lets hope its just the battery. Already placed a new starter relaid to be sure. To bad that was not the solution.
Bro i have eror problee EE i was crush the bike my xt660r show me when i open just EE how i can fix it?
I'm sorry, but I'm unfamiliar with that specific error. What have you found over the manual?
@@BNAdv i dont know the mannualy where is writing eror code?could you say me where i must look?
@@Bruh-k3c You can check the service manual here - www.manualslib.com/manual/656491/Yamaha-Xt660r.html#manual - and if I'm not mistaken, the error codes are at the end of each chapter. I know there are a lot of them from page 350 forward.
Hey, Thank you for your video, but my XT660X has error 30 and 42 and it can start perfectly well, but once I put in first gear and pull the gas the light pulb of tempeature goes on and engine switch off.. Will this repair solve my problem or is it something else?
Thanks!
you need repair ecu denso unit and gear position sensor vomon problem on xt an mt03 660cc engine 🎉
Hi, how are you? I need your support. Can you tell me how to remove the E code on Yamaha grizzly 700 Eps 2009 (it appears on the entire screen
Hello,
Sadly I can't help you, I'm not familiar with that code or the works of that specific bike, I'm sorry 😕
this isnt possible on my 2004 FJR 1300 as the mechanism is different but thanks for the tips any ways and for helping diagnose the problem! :)
Mine reads 0.6 I kick the kick stand up and move the bike side to side it doesnt change ...?
It may be stuck
I did what you said but when I tried to clear the code 30 it didn’t go away
I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I would suggest going over the process again to make sure it's all on point, and if not, sadly contacting a mechanic to evaluate the situation further
@@BNAdv okay thanks
Very helpful, thank you. Stupid device, nice to know a work around.
that device cuts power to your bike if you crash!!!
What is "stupid" is gluing it so it keeps power to your bike and your back wheel, potentially causing you and other road users injury!!!
Sir how about code 42 for aerox 155.?
Wow very Thorough explanation thanks
Is it necessary to clear codes after repairing or were you just clearing fault history?
Hello Eric, it has been a while since I've worked on this bike, but if memory doesn't fail me, once you clear the codes you clear the fault history.
Newer systems have redundancies and more complex memories, on the XT, as far as memory doesn't fail me, once you clear the code, you clear the history.
However, and since this sensor issue is valid for several models, I would advise you to find a workshop manual online, and follow the steps to reset the on board computer.
I'm surprised it does not have a solid-state sensor.
Error keeps appearing... What i can do?
Sadly I wouldn't know how to help you there. I would suggest a trip to an experienced mechanic.
Can you make a video about code 22?
@@BNAdv thank you very much. 👍👍👍
Xmax 250 41 error code?
Sadly if my explanation didn't work, I wouldn't know. As the video states, that fix is for the XT660's, so I'm not sure how to fix it on the Xmax
Hope it's this. 👍
Ayuda me de error 1
Desculpa, mas não sei como ajudar com esse erro.
Tilt full form
Tilt sensor is showing .06 and when i tilt bike to the right it turns off.
Nunca me aconteceu. Nem se quer sabia da existência de tal coisa... Lol
Now when you crash ,your back wheel keeps turning, absolutely ridiculous recommendation !
