@@LiveMoreOutdoors yes thanks we just got power back 3 nights ago then my pump went out lol have someone coming out tomorrow to look at that. Good thing i have a good neighbor was able to run a garden hose from there house 100 ft away and tie into my pump.
That garage looks really nice. I like your colors. I will probably never put up vinyl siding but thanks for taking the time to show some important info of installing this type product. God blessings and remember the reason for the season. Boe
Looking good and I like the vertical look for a stand alone garage! Are you starting in the house soon? I know trapping season is coming up and last year was slow so maybe a new cycle of critters in your areas! Good luck!
Thanks! Doubtful on starting this year. I just read an excerpt from Marty Meierotto about the fluctuations of animal population. Yeah, I hope we have an upswing in k9's this season LOL! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your video! Do you mind sharing what you did on the double j channel (after the 10 feet)? Did u drill holes for water to drain? How did you fix that so water doesn’t sit in the channels? Thanks a lot
The gable with the double J takes on very little water. So far it has drained out the ends and at the joint. If I had a longer span and a steeper pitch roof, I'd probably drill a few drain holes to be safe. However, I would do it toward the front of the channel and at a flat spot on the siding (not hidden behind the high rib). The hole would show a little from below, but that would be better that water running behind the lower siding. Thanks for watching!
Very little rain hits those gables, but the upper j-channel works like a little gutter. If it was a large exposed gable, a piece of z flashing for some extra protection would be good.
Not really. They don't have factory notches for overlapping like horizontal siding, and the batten part won't overlap nicely. I tried cutting notches, but it doesn't look good at all IMO. Thanks for watching.
Ok got you. And what if it was horizontal clapboards installed vertically? Do you think it would be possible? I love vertical sidings but hate the fact that it is not visually seamless. Thanks for your answer!
Yes, that can be done, but you would need to run your top pieces over the bottom ones to shed water. That will make the joints visible from the ground.
I have this same color and style of siding. Mine is bubbling like circles like warping in areas on the back side of my house. Have you had this issues?
I’m assuming an outside corner. Yes. If there is excess corner, I’d cut off a small piece and use it as a practice piece. Try bend the OC more obtuse. This will keep the sides from cupping in too much. Just make sure it’s warm. Vinyl can crack easily when it’s cold. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
How far apart did you space your top and bottom J channels for the full size 10 ft long boards? Did you account for an extra inch or so for expansion and contraction of the vinyl boards? Thank you in advance.
I don’t remember what the exact measurement was, but I did add about 3/4” to allow for some expansion. I believe the full pieces were about 120.5”Thanks for watching.
I bought a house with this stuff on it. It ended up warping (wavy). even on the pieces that are freely moving up and down. I think the black vinyl doesn't do well in hot climate. hows yours holding up?
You can put almost any siding vertically if you wanted. This is board and batten siding. It needs a very flat surface for installation because a large surface area of the siding contacts the wall. It’s not a good choice to cover imperfections. It comes in 10’ lengths and is not designed to be jointed together. This came from a lumber yard. I don’t know if the big box stores carry it. This brand is Homex.
That was a really good video , building looks awesome !!
Thank you very much!

Thanks buddy! Soon be time to set some traps.

That looks good with the siding straight up and down. I never thought about putting on that way but it looks good 👍
Thanks BT!
You did a great job explaining this and the shed looks great 👍
Thanks Paul! Hope you have electricity by now.

Looks good 🤠

great job!!! do you have a product description or model number for the siding used in this video?

Nice job brother

Thanks! It came from Your Building Center.
Great job. The color you said is Blue Ridge. Can you please share the siding brand you used and the thickness. It looks high quality. Thanks
The brand is Homex. I'm not sure of the thickness. Thanks for watching!
I looked up the site and the panels are .048" thick
Nice job - would love to know the colour and manufacturer of the siding. Thanks

Looks nice 👌
Thanks! Less than 40 days till trapping season!
I bought some brown sand and mixed dirt 50/50 to make wax dirt. Still need to dye and wax.
I have some waxed dirt left from last season, but I might make a little more. The 50/50 mix seems like it would work great.
you can really build it 😁
Now if I only had some fun feti banana bread 😜
@@LiveMoreOutdoors hahahah it’s here waiting for you!
ps: you forgot the brick mold 👀😆
on your horizontal break how do you keep water from getting in

You mention that the sidings are only 10ft long but could they be installed overlaping vertically ? (like metal roof sheets) thanks alot!

I have this same color and style of siding. Mine is bubbling like circles like warping in areas on the back side of my house. Have you had this issues?
No issues with mine. It’s been on for a while now. This siding has to be able to expand and contract freely.
This video helped me a lot. Thank you!
Awesome! Thanks for watching!
Quick question did you use 1/2 j channel? I’m assuming your siding was about a 1/2” thick.
Yes. Typical horizontal uses 5/8 which is too wide for vertical
@@LiveMoreOutdoors thank you much sir, enjoying your vids!
What brand was this siding?🙏
@@chrisperez8092 The manufacturer is Homex. Thanks for watching!
Can you put this on a house?
Absolutely. I plan on doing it next spring. Thanks watching!
Where do you buy vertical siding? I don't see it in stores
I bought it from a local lumber yard, Your Building Center. I don't know if Home Depot or Lowes carries it.
Any idea how to deal with an obtuse corner - 135 degrees? Just bend it out?
I’m assuming an outside corner. Yes. If there is excess corner, I’d cut off a small piece and use it as a practice piece. Try bend the OC more obtuse. What color is this siding? Tuxedo black?
The color is blue ridge
Great video! I am working on a siding project and liked that color, what brand is it? and where did you get it f you don't mind?
The color is Blue Ridge and the manufacturer is Homex. I got it from Your Building Center. Thanks for watching!
How do you quote that ?
I’m just a DIY guy trying to give some tips. I have a lot of experience building (mostly with my brother) but no experience with quotes. Sorry.
So, is this normal siding that has been installed vertically?
No. This siding is designed for vertical installment.
Will the installation spec define if it can or can't be installed vertically?
You can put almost any siding vertically if you wanted. This is board and batten siding. It needs a very flat surface for installation because a large surface area of the siding contacts the wall.
