Let science come to the rescue, use an old tile, plate, hand mirror, pane of glass. Lay it flat, put a drop of milk and a drip of paint at one end, now lift the pane where the paint / milk is so you have about a 45 degree angle. If they flow at the same rate, it's perfect. If the milk runs much faster, the paint I is too thick. If the paint runs much faster the paint is to thin.
Really enjoy your videos. Helpful links. Good use of humor. All the information is organized and easy to understand. Please make all the content. Paint. If you ever get into 3d printing please make some tutorials.
I'm so glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for your message! It made my day to hear that the time I put into the videos is making a difference and being helpful to others! :)
Great vids im just starting off and i bought the same airbrush gun you have how is it ??? And have you used paint thiner and water for decoart paint thinning if so what measurements do you recommend ?
You don't have any issues with your tip clogging? I try to screen it before I use it so that it doesn't happen. Maybe it's just the paint I'm using, idk. I'm using Apple barrel brand
Have you experimented with acrylic mediums in the paint? Like a glaze for transparency value? How about particulates? Like a ultra fine dust or powder in the paint canister? Don't worry, i'm on it. =) I also have some textile dyes to experiment with. Consistency of milk is useful for that. Also i would like to hear some results when the paint was too thick. Does it glob, splatter or run or what? I have a bigboy set up, half respirator, painters apron, safety glasses, ect. and a half a bedroom covered in painters canvas tarp. Perhaps overkill, but ima be experimenting with some wild airbrushing.
Awesome!! I haven't tried those things with it yet. Please let me know how it goes if you try it. As for example of too thick: usually it will have a harder time coming out and you'll get an uneven spray if any and sputters.
Great video, as always! And the cereal/milk clip made me laugh! I can’t believe alcohol is still so hard to come by, so might be worth checking out the pre-made stuff. What is the shelf life like on your paint in the bottles?
Thanks man!!!! Hahaha, yeah I had some fun with that part for sure! :) Yeah the whole virus thing has really cut down on the availability of the isopropyl alcohol. I have seen 70% available a lot lately. You could use that and just use less distilled water and I think that should work just fine. :) Otherwise I did link to a decent priced thinner on Amazon. :). As for the shelf life, I mixed up a batch I use for my dirt/ grunge painting and it has been going for about 1 year now. After time some of the thinner will evaporate so you have to add a little more to it but it has lasted pretty well. :)
Not good idea.. the paint will wash out after awhile and will fade.. For a more permanent solution you would use fabric paint and heat seal it.. Also if you need to thin the paint for airbrush you are better off going with a commercial thinner that doesn't dilute the binder medium in the paint.. Hope this helps
Distilled water and filtered water a little different in that distilled water has all minerals and everything removed from it, filtered water keeps the minerals in there as they are good for us and give water it's flavor. So distilled water is better to help avoid mineral deposits/build up in your airbrush. Hopefully that helps. :)
A couple things you can try: one would be to add a gloss medium to the paint. Another would be to look on Amazon, they tend to have some good prices on packs of acrylic paints that come in gloss or matte etc. Or if you are looking for a specific color in gloss just search on Amazon for that color acrylic paint with the keyword gloss and you can find bottles that are pretty cheap that way too. :). Hopefully that helps! :)
hello hi, is acrylic paint for canvas painting, is different? because when i tried to mix with the thinner, the color crumpled, i tested on maries acrylic paint with mr color thinner.
I can never get the milk consistency right. I think that might be because I try and mix it in the little cup though. I do love that you can mix Plaid FX 1:1 with Windex though.
I'm actually just using a porter cable pancake type compressor and just got the attachments I need to convert to the smaller jose and it has a pressure regulator on it already. I would highly recommend checking out harbor freight. They have a dual action air brush that is incredible for the price. If you take car of it it will keep working great. It's only $20.
It's not just filtering your paint first its also a matter of Airbrush control, if you stop spraying suddenly without stopping the airflow 1st the Las drop of paint will dry up on the needle and clogs it up. While you have the trigger down and you've finished spraying keep it pressed down while you push the trigger forward only then let go. This will completely stop clogging. Don't forget to filter your paint out every time you refill the well. Hope this helps.
Not quite, it just slows the drying time just a little so that it's less likely to clog your Airbrush. Just make sure you stop spraying before you let go of the trigger to stop the air coming through, you are even less likely to clog the Airbrush and save you a ton of frustration. Hope this helps.
It also depends on how much you're spraying on each application, if you're spraying lots it takes quite a while if you spray one fine misty layer it will pretty much dry instantly 😁.
I tried airbrushing and fell in love with it. I bought this crazy set up with multiple guns. I can do shirts, models, and I paint a bunch of bob ross style nature pictures on canvas. But due to the price of the paint, I don’t spend nearly as much time with the hobby as I’d like. I’m going to give this a shot and see how it goes. Thanks for the tip.
I have a probleme where my diy airbrush paint works just fine at the start and then after a few minutes of working it starts to lose power, until it stops spraying / spray very unevenly. Can someone help me plz
3 years on and the price of top brand paint is eye watering. On my kit Tamiya tells me that I need about 10 different paints!! I think my new hobby is going to be short lived!
Thank you...I'm new to airbrushing😳😮 and getting ready to break in a new airbrush. I'm going to play with it a bit before using it on anything I'm making. I purchased it to use on my Halloween and Christmas projects. Those squeeze bottles will come in handy I have plenty of paint. Thanks again...Great job 👏🏾👏🏾***FYI As of this date (5/1/21) those squeeze bottles are unavailable.
Yay!! I'm so glad it was helpful! I'm excited for you to start airbrushing! It is a great tool to have!! Shoot, they are unavailable? Maybe once you click on it, see if there is a similar items category and you can find some from another seller that will do the same thing :)
I’m here as I’m going to be using Mousu Black without any airbrushing experience. It says Dilute with 30%-50% water. Anyone think that’s wrong? Now how the hell do I get it out of the jar with ease?
Why is this video too all completely blurred out? RUclips really is a shit video streaming platform. I suppose this video too promotes too much violence for RUclips's non-existing moral standards.
What color airbrush paint are you going to make first?
Metallic Blue
red, for my pike bait line
Awesome!!
I want to try this mix, But I found out that there are many types of thinner, can tell me plz which one is the right one for airbrush?
I have a video on how to make your own thinner let me know if you need the link :)
Great! Love the head under the downward facing bench cam. Nice quirky angle. I'm always looking for clever ways to make my videos more interesting
Haha, thanks! It makes it more fun for me filming it that way too! :)
all your instructions and information make alot of sense !! thank youuu !!
Thank you so much for your comment! :). That makes my day to hear that the videos are appreciated :)

Goldie locks here , givinging it a go !
Hahaha :). Perfect!! :)
can i use this technique on plastic models?
As long as the paint you are using says it can stick to plastic, then it should work. :)
I'll be back gotta check your other video

This was helpful. Thanx.
So glad it was helpful!!! Thanks for the comment and for watching!!!! You rock!!

Dollar tree as well! There are a few sizes at dollar tree
Great vids im just starting off and i bought the same airbrush gun you have how is it ??? And have you used paint thiner and water for decoart paint thinning if so what measurements do you recommend ?
Is this also applicable for painting gundam?
Great video...great info!!!
Can the craft pearl paint such as DECOART PEARLS also be thinned to use in airbrush???
You don't have any issues with your tip clogging? I try to screen it before I use it so that it doesn't happen. Maybe it's just the paint I'm using, idk. I'm using Apple barrel brand
how do you mix watercolor paint for airbrush use on a watercolor painting?
Thank you so much for this video!!
You're welcome!! I'm so glad it was helpful!!!
Will this be good for 3d printed models? :) like pokemon etc.,
Can I use car paint thinner
I am not sure, my guess would be that car paint thinner might be too intense but I'm not sure as I have not ever used it or painted my own car. :)

Sounds like an awesome setup man!!!
Could you perhaps use acetone instead of alcohol?
Can you use this to airbrush a shirt
I think you could, you would just want to use paint that works for painting on fabrics.
Great video, as always! And the cereal/milk clip made me laugh! I can’t believe alcohol is still so hard to come by, so might be worth checking out the pre-made stuff. What is the shelf life like on your paint in the bottles?

Can you use airbrush medium thinner? Does it work the same?
That is a good questions, unfortunately I am not sure of the answer for you. :/.
Super helpful thank you! Starting to airbrush and all I could find was "mix until it's good" and I had no idea what that was :)
Done this with acrylic floor finish (1:3 paint to finish ratio). Works pretty good as it is self leveling. I would use a primer before spraying tho.
This we help me so much with cosplay. Hey Skyler, how do you get an airbrush?
So glad it was helpful!! You can get one at harbor freight for a great price or on Amazon. :)
Good videos, thanks! FYI, the squeeze bottles in your link are no longer available.
Thank you! Thanks for the heads up on the squeeze bottle link.
can you use this paint on clothing?

Also if you need to thin the paint for airbrush you are better off going with a commercial thinner that doesn't dilute the binder medium in the paint.. Hope this helps
This is so helpful! Thanks for this video - I'm going to be using this to paint some art dolls I sculpted :)
Yay!!!!! I'm so glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! Sounds like an awesome project!! I would love to see how they turn out! :)

hello hi, is acrylic paint for canvas painting, is different? because when i tried to mix with the thinner, the color crumpled, i tested on maries acrylic paint with mr color thinner.
Hi how many quantities of the respective paint and air brush solution ?
I can never get the milk consistency right. I think that might be because I try and mix it in the little cup though. I do love that you can mix Plaid FX 1:1 with Windex though.
Yeah, it's a little trickier in the cup. :). Yeah! You can use the thinner I used in this in a 1:1 with PlaidFX as well :)
@@CosplayApprentice I keep meaning to make some of that but, Uh, I’m lazy and it’s easier to just buy windex.
@@Grpyphon Hahaha, totally get it :)

I actually poured milk next to my first trys of thinning airbrush paints, just to get the consistency right :D
Hahaha! Awesome!! :) Right, it's so hard to know what that means otherwise. I'm glad I'm not the only one trying to figure that out :)
I have a probleme where my diy airbrush paint works just fine at the start and then after a few minutes of working it starts to lose power, until it stops spraying / spray very unevenly. Can someone help me plz

I try this, but is is not working for painting miniatures
Yes
w00t, 100th comment LOL!
For me "consistency of milk" means it slightly coats the sides of the bottle..
Yay!! Nice, that's a pretty good way to describe the consistency of milk. :)
Yes i saw some paints that are really expensive
I really wish you just told us how to make the thinner while you were at it
Here is a video where I go through the formula ruclips.net/video/dDYweAJfuRQ/видео.html
Finally someone makes sense of the milk talk
Didn't work. Ok now clarify me first I have to mix paint with thinner and then we have to mix little bit milk at last we have to spray?
Oh wow. Someone once told me to mix something until it had the consistency of milk and I was so lost!! 😂
Hahaha, right!?! :) Hopefully this helped it make more sense :)
I mean ... it makes sense, but I don't know what goldilock is ... so should that be a thumbs up or down?
Hahaha :) either way works :)
Having a rough mix would have been nice also

silver for my master sword prop that I 3d printed
Just use water and acrylics.
I don't know, I've looked all over. Show me just one place where you can get these acrylic paints for $0.50 a bottle.

wait what goldilocks!? 😮Do I have to sleep in three beds or something i dont understand 😳🤯🧐 lol! Jk Thank you!!!
