  • Hi folks! In this video, we continue to extend our firewood road with the Kubota B2601 and the Kranman hydraulic timber trailer. We are using a Komatsu wb150ps backhoe in our operation and an International 414 tractor with a farmi winch. At the end of the video, we do some measurements and quick math to get a rough estimate of wood volume on our woodlot...

    Thanks for sharing Jason! I wonder how much more growth is on your property now vs 30 years ago! With your management i'm sure the 1.2 mil is more than generous!

      Hey guys, thanks for stopping by! I don’t know how much is actually out there but I know over the next 10-15 years we are going to grow considerably more!

    I see you get ready for a stone throwing contest there! BTW I've used my log trailer to set the large stone steps near the pool! You sure can get a significant revenue from such a large woodlot, given you put some work to it too! I had a forestry engineer to explain me the process to sell wood to a pulp mill. I did not go this route, simply because I would be out of wood to cut within few years. So I stuck to firewood processing. Thanks!

      The log loaders are certainly capable. I used to cut tractor trailer loads of my best wood for the sawmills and pulpmills… I eventually got smarter. I wish now that I would have saved some of those big spruce trees… Oh well, live and learn!

    I wish I scaled my wood lot before I started managing it. You guys are certainly on the right path. Congratulations Logan! And Ranger needs to stay out of the cat nip!

      Thanks Jeff. We got Ranger from Nova Scotia and he has a lot of energy😀. I’m kind of interested to have the Woodlot scaled now. Logan started laying asphalt this week before he heads to university this Fall!

    Would your total value be higher assuming all firewood production instead of selling pulpwood?

      Interesting isn’t it… so many factors come into play. I think the only way to know for sure would be to have a professional forester do a woodlot inventory by species and size?

    Anyone with 25acres or more is automatically member of forestry syndicate in new Brunswick. As a member you can get a forestry management plan that would include a inventory. Some years they have more budget for plans than others so you may have to wait a bit but its free

      Hi there! We have worked with the marketing board in the past for tree planting and pre-commercial thinning. We reached out for boundary line service but they must have been too busy to get to us… We plan on reaching out again this Fall so that we can get some of the property lines freshened up!

      @@OakMountainAcotts yeah you kinda have to pester them or you wont get the goodies!!! They can sometimes pay you to do work on your land however they are very picky about approval process before and after work is done. Its their way or no pay.

    • @OakMountainAcotts
      @OakMountainAcotts  Год назад

      For sure… the boundary line service was going to cost me $30/hr per forester. I want to put a new road in to a 70 acre block right on the line so it’s gonna cost me!

      @@OakMountainAcotts Yeah to access the funds you have to follow their orders and getting the work done as prescribed in the management plan, once the plan is in function they usually contact you as they get funding for work, been getting work done for 20+ years

      @@OakMountainAcotts I know the feeling. I try to cut our firewood out of 8’ logs into rounds for splitting for about an hour or two a day. And most days it does me in. But I’m much older than you. I’d like to stay at it most of the day, because I enjoy it. But between my age and back, I can’t do it any more. Can’t dig potatoes with a shovel any more either. That was something else I liked doing. So I don’t plant to many potatoes any more. I need a small tractor with a back hoe to dig them. Hehe.
      Have a great day.
