yes--Bill Payne SHOULD be in The R&R Hall of Fame given the body of work he has done over the years with SO many artists--His contribution to music is unparalleled!!!
Bill Payne and all the rest of Little Feat deserve recognition by enshrinement in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They have been going on like the energizer bunny and just keep evolving. Their repertoire is absolutely amazing. My wife and I have followed them on their trips through the Northwest several times & every night it's a new show. They are all good people and more than willing to talk. Bill Payne is immensely talented and he has worked long & hard to take that talent higher.
Little Feat really never got the credit they deserve for being one of most unique sounding bands for 4 decades ...they had and still have that funky cajun groove ,and besides losing Lowell George they kept going on without changing the core members ,I know Ritchie Haywards drumming style is what I tried (just tried) to emulate as a drummer ,Hayward is in a class by himself, and so are Payne and the others
Huge thanks to LivingLedgendsMusic for these wonderful interviews with Bill Payne, beautiful words and sentiments from a beautiful person, beautifully told. Amazing!
i'm mostly a fretboard player; but get transfixed by Bill Payne whenever he cuts loose. On Dixie Chicken he takes us all to Memphis the way Randy Newman would.
I worked with all the guys in Little Feat back in the 70's. They were always at the Alley in North Hollywood. Lowell was an incredible and approachable guy, Paul on Guitar, Richie on drums, Clayton on the conga's and Bill Payne on the keyboard. Some the the best musical days of my life. I miss them very much. To Lowell, Paul and Richie....May God continue to hold you in the hollow of His loving hands...rest in peace.
Tanx so much for this series! Good to put the spotlight on cats who deserve more exposure. Saw Little Feat a couple years ago in Montreal... Bill Payne was phenomenal!!!!!
Billy is an amazing individual and incredible keyboardist. He should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a sideman, if not with his band Little Feat. The people he has played with over the years is a who's who of Rock and Roll.
I respect Bill so much as a player, his skills bring him to the level of the Best in his field... Loved 'em Live... I gained so much inspiration from the whole band & borrowed a lick or 10 from them.. back in 'bout '89 Let It Roll was released and I was so glad to see the band back and sounding great. I missed Lowell but was so glad to the guys playing again and appearently having a Ball if the Video is any indication. I just wanted to say I really like theis band, they are among my Top 10 Favs
I did a guest DJ show at a radio station playing just songs that Billy Payne played on. The range of songs was from The Doobie Brothers, Meatloaf, Bob Seger, James Taylor, Toto, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt and more. It is unbelievable that the idiots that nominate and induct artists into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame don't recognize Billy's contribution to Rock and Roll. He should be in there as a "sideman". There are so many great songs that his playing has graced.
Little Feat n Lowell George!! First u had the Beatles then came the Stones but Little Feat The Band and the Allman Bros were all very special n Billy Payne, was, an exceptional pianist in inse, very, exceptional Band! Keith Eric hards, saw them at the, Troubadour n after the gig he, was interviewed n he, said I've just seen the future of Rock music n it ain't us,! "
True dat Bill Burgess. 1969 was the summer of Woodstock and for me it was the summer of training in the Army before being sent to Germany (instead of Vietnam) Don'tcha love the stories of Billy Payne?
Bill is a little confused, The Summer of Love was in 1967 NOT 1969 as he stated...by 1969 the world was busting at it seams, and love had long passed by....but 1967 was indeed a very spiritual, magical year...it brought people together feom all over the world to explore a brand new conciousness that was taking place...for a few brief months in 1967, the hippies really believed that change was in the air....it was brief, but it was a very magical time.
Hey, you're criticizing Billy Payne‽ What do you want¿ I mean.. i was happy to see him w/the replacement Drummer for Ritchie in Feat & Robben Ford as a neat Trio in 2014(±) Yoshi's Oakland. He was a nice Guy & I'm a proud owner of a Signed 'Waiting For..' & a few things that were lettered FZ Including my Cosmic Debris Book from a Great Ike Willis w/Pojama People recently around then. He was a brilliant Guy - I don't know how Paul Barrere got to make a few Solo LPs & a few Blues Busters LPs but Bill did not seem to have it together. The weird time had to do w/Estrada who's going to be released in 2093!👍 That'll be a good time? 🤔 'Shutter Island #2: This Time- It's For Reel' an uncomfortable feat note to the Entire FEAT Book Depository .. Hollywood Blvd dig up Estrada's basement.
I’m amazed he has never been a full time member of the Grateful Dead , tho that position (keyboards) is quite the taboo position. His style and approach is tailor made for their music . Maybe it’s a good thing he’s never been in the GD - he may not be alive today
Bill Payne is a real great keyboardist - sadly very underrated in public - and obviously the best instrument player in Little Feat, far better than Lowell with his bottleneck guitar

No one plays piano like this Man, Period.
Phenomenal, and one of a kind.
If you played me a hundred parts, I could pick out Bill's in a second.
i'm mostly a fretboard player; but get transfixed by Bill Payne whenever he cuts loose. On Dixie Chicken he takes us all to Memphis the way Randy Newman would.
I know what you mean. The first time I heard Hate To Lose Your Lovin on the radio I knew it was Little Feat even before the vocals began.
Just saw Little Feat here last night in Sydney at the State theatre. It was great.
That was indeed a wonderful performance! You could hear a pin drop with how attentive that crowd was. I loved it!

There are no better bands than Little Feat.(NONE)
This guy is the world's most underrated piano man, I think.
The Doobies thought he was pretty good so they added him. Good decision!
I love this guy i could sit and listen to him for hours.oh and just happens to be in the top 3 best keyboard players in the world today.
he looked too starry eyed when mentioning che and castro. the good ole days, right? wtf?????
Tanx so much for this series!

Magnificent!! These are just brilliant interviews!!!

That was so good.
He strikes me as an honest guy, a good guy and just one hell of a keyboard man.
I respect Bill so much as a player, his skills bring him to the level of the Best in his field... Loved 'em Live... Love this guy! Love Lowell George too. *sniff* He was amazing.
Love ya Bill. Thanks fer being true to Lowell sir.

@rayjr62 I think he also plays the classic piano intro on China Grove
Holy shit that blew my mind
Correction: 1967 was “The Summer of Love,” not 1969.
No Bill, nothing had changed but it sure is now.
Never heard anybody his age and background not know which year was "The Summer of Love". Hell, I was only 14 in 1967 and I knew.
He may have gotten the date wrong, but he is one of the best rock and roll piano players ever. Maybe THE best.
he is talking about woodstock and altamont
The summer of love was 1967.
the summer of love never happened. it was a marketing strategy.
True dat Bill Burgess. 1969 was the summer of Woodstock and for me it was the summer of training in the Army before being sent to Germany (instead of Vietnam) Don'tcha love the stories of Billy Payne?
Paul Kantner once said the summer of love was actually, '66
Bill is a little confused, The Summer of Love was in 1967 NOT 1969 as he stated...by 1969 the world was busting at it seams, and love had long passed by....but 1967 was indeed a very spiritual, magical year...it brought people together feom all over the world to explore a brand new conciousness that was taking place...for a few brief months in 1967, the hippies really believed that change was in the air....it was brief, but it was a very magical time.
Jesus this is complicated... Fuckin Feat...
...both were Frank Zappas Labels... love it...
Thought 67 was the summer of love
You are correct. Mr. Payne definitely got that wrong.
fatbelly27 It was an Intelligence project so it doesn't matter.
it was. maybe this guy did more drugs than he admits. lol
Kim Irvin hanging with Lowell George.. RIP. ... you can probably say that
@Nvg8r1 Name dropper or what ? but I still love to watch him on youtube.....
Absolutely just criminal that FEAT aren’t in the HOF! I’ll never walk in those doors , frigging joke.
thought summer of love was 1967??
oke... 2 summers of love...
He's allowed his politics, it's almost still a free country.
Lowell George, done to soon.
Don’t you know what year the summer of Love was?
Too much drugs

Except when Che and Fidel met, they talked of things like Stalinism and how swell it is.
@themancable: I'm no fan of either W or Cheney, but I know and you know that conversation never took place. You just make shit up, don't you?
'67 was the summer of love... just sayin...
Good people, focus on the music and the music makers. Ignore the ignoramuses and the rabble rousers.
1980's just in time for the sexual counterrevolution.....
@tomthefunky
Like when W and Killer Dick met and they talked about death camps and how swell Himmler was.
Too many drugs!!!
