  • One of Woody Guthrie's greatest "Dust Bowl Ballads," this call for economic justice from the 1930s retains its aptness through the decades. Set to the tune of the traditional murder ballad"Pretty Polly," this version is by the Kingston Trio from its 1961 album "Goin' Places."

I just heard this song for the first time off a 'God Bless America' tape cassette given to me in a bag of about a hundred other tape cassettes somebody did not want. I'm glad I actually took the time out to listen to that tape cassette because this tune is the only great song on the tape. Now I'll be looking into The Kingston Trio because it's such a talented rendition of W.Guthrie's song!
Thanks for uploading this video/song !

Hi, Jim. This is one of my favorites on the "Goin' Places" LP. My other should have given Sinatra more than a run for the money - naturally, "It Was A Very Good Year" (which preceded his version). Come visit me...love to get your comment on our (Jeff Harrison and moi's) ragged but sincere "500" Miles" ( a Journeymen's classic along with K-3's). My comment at the end of the video had to balance the sadness of this song. Regards, John

I believe this song is the masterpiece of Woody Guthrie, and at the same time The Kingston Trio's. Is there any song of this grand scale in Japan? No, never!
