- One of Woody Guthrie's greatest "Dust Bowl Ballads," this call for economic justice from the 1930s retains its aptness through the decades. Set to the tune of the traditional murder ballad"Pretty Polly," this version is by the Kingston Trio from its 1961 album "Goin' Places."
be cause of this song (and "this land is your land") my #1 son
(now 50yro) is named Guthrie ....
Nice choices!
My Dad had this exact album. I must have listened to it hundreds of times as a kid. One of my favourite songs.
A great Woody Guthrie tune never done better!
I bought this in 1963, great stuff.
I still have it!
@@marknewton6984 So do i! I think it's my favorite Kingston Trio album along with Last Month of the Year, their Christmas album.
Play it every Christmas! 😎
I just heard this song for the first time off a 'God Bless America' tape cassette given to me in a bag of about a hundred other tape cassettes somebody did not want. I'm glad I actually took the time out to listen to that tape cassette because this tune is the only great song on the tape. Now I'll be looking into The Kingston Trio because it's such a talented rendition of W.Guthrie's song!
Thanks for uploading this video/song !
The Kingston Trio ....fantastic....
This is the best version of this song, So glad to find it here. Thanks for posting it.
Totally agreed.
Great version of Woody Guthrie song. The Best!
Hi, Jim. This is one of my favorites on the "Goin' Places" LP. My other should have given Sinatra more than a run for the money - naturally, "It Was A Very Good Year" (which preceded his version). Come visit me...love to get your comment on our (Jeff Harrison and moi's) ragged but sincere "500" Miles" ( a Journeymen's classic along with K-3's). My comment at the end of the video had to balance the sadness of this song. Regards, John
such nice voices
WOW WOW WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
From a mad keen 75yo Aussie fan.
I 'm a retired yank myself and I have ALL the Kingston Trio vinyl albums. Play on, mate!
The Best ! From a 75 year old Yank. I have ALL their albums.
Great song :)
I believe this song is the masterpiece of Woody Guthrie, and at the same time The Kingston Trio's. Is there any song of this grand scale in Japan? No, never!
Truly the best version of this great song!
And Solas does this song and keeps the road rolling.
Weird chord at 2:10.
yes but still good
