Damn... I miss them and the Limelighters and Peter Paul and Mary et al... Loved the folk music of that Era. It picked up your spirits. Wish we had more of it today, but it was from a gentler time that sadly has passed.
I think of this song when I travel throughout the USA, especially when I go to the National parks. I have lived in 13 states and been in all 50 states. What a beautiful song.
Whenever the Kingston Trio covered a song they always put their mark on it. This version of "This Land is Your Land" is one of those. They did many of Woody Guthrie's songs and did a great job on all of them. Thanks for posting this.
"This land was made for you and me". I love that one line out of the song. I always think of the people of the U.S. when I hear this song, and how people should get over differences and cooperate to create a better country than now. I fell in love with this song since I first heard it from Woody Guthrie.
they unfortunately left out my favorite verse there was a great big wall there, that tried to stop me, there's a painted sign there, read private property, but on the back side, it didn't say nothin'
When I was a very little girl I used to sing Tom Dooley because I’d hear from my dad when he would play the KingstonTrio in the car. 😁 I had absolutely no idea what I was really saying.
+Andonios Platsidakis You have no sense of kindness or a kinder spirit. Lighten up. There is nothing wrong in being inclusive in our patriotism. I guess that is too much to ask from a weak person such as you.
You sound like an automaton, an narcissistic jerk when you express your patriotism. Granted, Marxism has never been a "good" thing for anyone, but I get tired of people like you unnecessarily patronizing people blabbing about freedom, getting a erection about how duty, honor, freedom, and God has made you a better person. Furthermore, you use that to hit people over the head because others are imperfect and oh, maybe not have been born in this country. I am so tired of listening to the crap, but I defend my friends that are immigrants to this land, whom are honest, good, and hard working people. My definition of patriotism is duty, honor, freedom, loyalty, compassionate, hospitable, neighborly, mindful, caring, loving, intelligent, faithful. Those are the values I hear in this song, and about "diversity of patriotism". ..But I guess you only care what you want to believe and I pity you for your arrogance. It's unfortunate that kind of spirit is lost in this country because we can't be good neighbors anymore.
Rest assured, I don't care what political affiliation one person comes from. If you can't handle all those qualities I mentioned, you will never be a patriot in my eyes.
We have awesome redwood forests here. Hell why travel the world when you could just come here! True be it there is a lot hippies and weed, but it’s still cool
Actually, not exactly. I'm CompVid101 (Jim Moran in real life), and this is the poorly mixed first digital release from Capitol Records, greatly inferior to the original vinyl mix that appeared on the LP that I still have from 1961. My old friend 3Pitous, there may be a better digital mix that Capitol released later.
"Was" being the operative word. Do you have a point, or is this a lame attempt to make some people feel bad about living North America? An immigrant that arrived today has as much right to be here as you, me or indigenous people. That's the point of the song. ("Indigenous Indians" live on the other side of the world on the Indian subcontinent.)

I remembered this song when I was a childhood those song is very much apart of me thanks all of you ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
They were my first and greatest musical influence along with The Beatles, God they were so good.
Grew up with the Kingston Trio and proud of it!
Me too!
This should be our national anthem!
It's mine.
Loved this group.
And I still love them!

understatement they were awesome and still are
This chorus makes me reminsce my young days.
Yes, I was Kingston crazy, too, and copied their songs with my buddies.
I still have my banjo!

The ORIGINAL TRIO, MY ALL TIME FAVORITES . . . . . . . . . . . .
My biggest musical influence!
"This land was made for you and me".

@reggietheanarchistrat8805 you forgot the verse about the relief office.
First heard this group at V.M.I. in the 1960’s, love that folk music.
You got that straight! i love it.
God blessed america for me.
When we were kids, we used to sing;
"This land is your land,
this land is my land.
Stay on your own land,
keep off of my land!"
When I was a very little girl I used to sing Tom Dooley because I’d hear from my dad when he would play the KingstonTrio in the car. 😁 I had absolutely no idea what I was really saying.
Suffers from what a lot of early songs did when they went to stereo, with one channel quieter than the other. Love the Kingston Trio though.
The song This Land Is Your Land that was written by the late Woody Guthrie should & ought to be made the national anthem of the United States.
I can agree with that!

Woodie traveled the country, so he had a lot of material to draw on.
Wonderful, but it was the land of the first people, the indigenous Indians.
