So happy to see them doing another documentary! Glad to see they both got to fly and their family watch. It was poignant knowing that several from the previous docs had passed away. All respect to them. Also enjoyed the spotlight on all the different people that made everything possible behind the scenes.
Thank you Ewen, my father served in the RAAF, my mother was from Dundee so I am both a proud Australian and proud of my Scottish heritage. We must never forget those brave few. Kind regards to you and your brother Clare
Outstanding video from the team. Lest we forget the men and women to whom we owe of lives and freedom. As an Australian the RAF is close to my heart as is our RAAF. My Grandmother was proudly one of a small group of women to first to join the RAAF at Amberley Base in Ipswich Queensland so many years ago. RIP Grandma.
How is that I only see this now!!!?’ Why it wasn’t released on RUclips by the time the Royal Air Force was at 100? Thanks. And the idea of Ewan Mcgregor as our host is simply fantastic
My father went as a volunteer from Chile and flew Lancaster and ended up in Pathfinder’s got DFC I have his logbook with all his missions I am very proud for his contribution in 156 squadron
amazing documentary... still thinking about those bomber crews and the one thing I would change about this documentary is perhaps focusing a bit more on the mental health challenges those guys experienced beyond the STD's which were also about x 4 the single seat aviators in the Spitfires and Hurricanes... which the RAF researched to find out an explanation for such a big difference even when the single seat fighters were having higher casualty rates a year earlier during the Battle of Britain... and it had to do with agency, not too surprisingly. What an accomplished and artful documentary, though, on a legendary air arms organization, defined by meritocracy and professionalism as much as love of country or anything else.
I worked in a nursing home one of the ladies there used to fly the Mitchells from Los Angeles to New York, spend the night and then turn around and fly them to England She said it was the most fun she ever had in her life never had been out of the United States, but she used to fly crop dusters when she was a teenager so that’s how she got the job
That's one proud momma right there. Before coming across this, I wasn't even aware Ewan even had a brother. I love the relationship between the two of them.
Thank ou so much for this video, thanks for the grate peope working to have this megestic birds in flying condition, for the travel back in time, for the documentation, such a well documented video
Watched the whole documentary, the harrier pilot describing his hatred and intend towards the argentinian pilot. You can see it in his eyes when he talks about it.
Interesting, a history of the RAF. No mention of general Hugh Trenchard? Flying certification number 271. First Chief 0f the Air Staff and commanding general of the RAF before it was the RAF 1915 to 1917. He built the best and biggest air Force of WW1. A true visionary who understood what Air Power could before most.
As Churchill once said to the British air ministry on reading their account of the battle of Britain, which did not ONCE include the name of ACM Dowding. "What would have been said if … the Admiralty had told the tale of Trafalgar and left Lord Nelson out of it?" !!! (From a former "Trenchard's brat")
56:50 the bomber crews of both the US and UK were only doing what they were told to do with the tools they had at the time. Questioning those brave men for decades after their sacrifice was nothing less than a spit in their face. Shame on their respective militaries and gov'ts as a whole for that. They deserve our respect and gratitude. Let's not forget the Germans did the same to the UK. As an American who's grandfather served in that war, I thank him for his service and those like him to help guarantee the freedoms of the people of the world at that time and since. Furthermore, I thank those who served in Korea and Vietnam. Those people deserved better than our political efforts of that time. Finish what you start. The people of those countries and others like it deserved better than a war halfway won and then abandoned.
Saw a tv program about the jets protecting the boarder with russia. What about a rear faceing camera that locks onto objects behind and below the jet. Then displays it in front of the pilot with lines so the pilot can tell where it is realative to his/her jet. Like cars have. What about being abile to lornch or jetison flack behind so as to compromise a trailing jet.

100 years RAF. .....only forgot a few years, like the in between years. they were only the most important years for the RAF, but, NO we go from 1917 to 1940
The cost was high = 544 pilots. It's terrible they died, but it always brings comparisons to the Soviets on the Eastern front. They lose about 15k soldiers daily for more than 1400 days. 😐😐 The RAF won this like a boss. Like it was a colonial skirmish with technologically inferior tribesmen, by comparison... 😐😐
All I can think about is the women and men that sacrificed so much for us to be here today. End hate. End tyranny. End authoritarian regimes everywhere.

Lots of holes in the RAF’s history here, but ok

gonna call nonsense on this. Ewan McGregor hasn't been with the RAF for 100 years. he's nowhere near old enough
He's just narrating it. It does NOT mean he's been with it for 100 years.
