      @@Mr.Starlight_gaming The showcase was good, people bitch about literally every fucking showcase because they want like 10 different AAA behemoths to be announced in each one, and when that doesn't happen they just dismiss it and call it trash.
      Couldn't care less about remasters, but we got some solid games and Ghost of Yotei was exactly what I was hoping for, something big to look forward to next year.

    Well, I looked it up for any Japanese Samurai Swordwoman in history, here some names to look up
    -Tomoe Gozen
    -Nakano Takeko
    -Hangaku Gozen
    -Yodo-Dono
    -Tsuruhime
    -Hojo Masako
    -Onna-Bugeisha: Japanese Female Samurai Warriors who used a weapon called, "Naginata." (I learned about the Naginata from Forged in Fire)
    I found some information on Onna-Bugeisha on JSTOR: JSTOR is a digital library for scholars, researchers, and students. JSTOR Daily readers can access the original research behind our articles for free on JSTOR.

      It seems like the women is an Ainu warrior of some kind. It would be in keeping with the theme from Tsushima if the Ainu character has to conform to the Japanese style of warfare to survive.

    • @brian0902
      @brian0902 4 дня назад

      She is most likely Ainu or Ainu-adjacent, as the date is during the Edo period when around half of Hokkaido was still under Ainu control. Mount Yōtei is near the southern tip of Hokkaido, which was under Japanese control and influence. My guess is that it's around the time when Japanese and Ainu fighting was happening, so either we would be Ainu fighting the Japanese or Japanese or Ainu-adjacent characters fighting the Ainu or some other enemy. One of the notable events in 1603 was the emperor appointing Tokugawa Ieyasu as shōgun, who moved his government to Edo (Tokyo) and founded the Tokugawa dynasty of shōguns. As for Hokkaido, much of the area was still not urbanized; it was a wilderness made up of a patchwork of Japanese and Ainu factions, and the shogunate was starting to exert control at that time. Regarding women, our character may not be a known figure but could be fictional, as the only known female samurai who may have lived in 1603 was Jōkō-in as far as I know. She would likely have been in her late 20s to early 30s, but we don’t know her exact age due to questionable birth records. However it’s important to note that she lived in the Kanto region of Japan, and as far as we know, she never traveled to Hokkaido.

      As for the onna-bugeisha, their influence sharply declined from the 1600s to the 1800s due to the rapid spread of Neo-Confucianism.
      Edit: I checked the historical figures you said and see if any considered for the game set in 1603
      Tomoe Gozen: Lived in the late 12th century.
      Nakamura Takeko: Lived 1847-1868, too late for the setting.
      Hangaku Gozen: Also from the late 12th century.
      Yodo-dono: 1566-1615, relevant to the timeline.
      Tsuruhime: 1550-1615, also relevant.
      Hōjō Masako: Lived in the 12th century.
      So, only Yodo-dono and Tsuruhime match the timeline.

    Go back and fucking look at the cutscenes of Horizon Zero Dawn and then tell me they didn't need to redo it all. Zero Dawn's animation looks like a Bethesda game whereas Forbidden West is up there with TLOU 2.

    Part of why the Morricone homage is so fitting is that Kurosawa films were heavily influenced by American westerns (which in turn were influenced by Kurosawa - see: A Fistful of Dollars, The Magnificent Seven, etc.). The two fit seamlessly together.

    Ghost of yotei looks good and has great music, interested to see the story goes.. But the rest of the state of play was a joke to be honest I was laughing so much at how dumb it was. They really had nothing to show, and it shows.. Love your vids man!

  • @kruaser123
    @kruaser123 4 дня назад +1

    Yotei is a mountain in Hokaido, which until the 1800s was considered wild frontier so the wild west motifs are actually appropriate. And when they were discussing people being driven north, I assume they are talking about the displacement of the Ainu which the Japanese Government forced off their land and pushed further north to the nearly inhospitable areas of Hokkaido, where many Ainu would end up starving, freezing, and dropping from Small Pox. If I had to assume, our protagonist is likely one of the survivors of this, though I wouldn't want to assume too hard. It was a very Manifest Destiny moment in Japanese history and I'll be the first to admit I'm not the best educated in in the nuances of the subject.
    edit: After reevaluating I'm probably wrong with the speculation

    Yotei is the name of a mountain in Hokkaido, so apparently this game's story is going to happen in that area.
    The trailer says 1603, so that is more than 300 years after Ghost of Tsushima (which is based on the historical reference of invasion of Japan by Yuan dynasty. The invasion of Tsushima happened in 1274)

    Horizon Zero Dawn absolutely needed a remaster. You know why I don't replay it so often? It's because I'm tired of every playthrough sitting through HOURS AND HOURS of dialogue in which these high fidelity character models look like they're being hand-animated by some 1st year game design student who's never worked in a game engine before, looking like they have wooden brooms stuck up their asses and are being puppeteered by the person who shoved that godforsaken rod up there! And the cherry on top is that the lip-syncing is often crap, the only respite from that waste of talent being the DLC when the studio got their act together and decided that every moment was worth the player's attention and even then the sequel has it beat by a country mile on this front, mocapping almost every damn conversation in the game, bringing every character in this monster-sized journey to life so that their high-fidelity character models don't look like polishing on a turd!
    Not to mention by the way all the accessibility features that are bound to come with a new release and quality of life improvements (I also love in the original how the game doesn't care what armor you're wearing, it'll just switch you back to the default for a bunch of random, pre-rendered cutscenes, taking you out of the experience) AND the fact that the game is going to look EVEN BETTER NOW. As a freshly graduated game design student who's in it for the art, I support this. Don't trust your knee-jerk reaction to a remaster, judge it on its own merits.

    • @MarcoMeatball
      @MarcoMeatball  2 дня назад

      For sure I would never deny the value of those enhancements. The game also didn’t land for me when I played it and ultimately I forgot most of the plot and experiences. The fights with the incredible t rex models still sit in my brain though!
