There is a very easy way to fix Sprint races: Get rid of them. Don't need them, don't want them. There is a reason why usually there are three FP sessions: Teams need track time to set up their cars.
Touring Car Masters her in Australia does a good trophy (sprint) race. You get 1 point to start and 1 point to finish. The Trophy Race sees the top half of the field from qualifying reversed and sent to the back of the grid, offering a chance for new names and faces to shine at the front of the field where otherwise they might not have the opportunity. Also Aussie V8 Supercars has done the top 10 shootout for years. Basically it's a one lap shot by the fastest 10 drivers to determine the starting order of the first 10 spots on the grid. Only one car on track at a time. Done after qualifying
Friday am practice, Quali at night. Saturday am practice then park ferme commences. Shoot out with reverse grid Saturday night then Sunday race normal grid This way, they still get a lot of running time before the car is set for the weekend plus there's something exciting everyday without so much chaos or spoilers for the real race.

Parc Ferme only applies post Race Quali to Sunday Race. Engine modes unlocked for Sprint Race.
