That's actually genius. It's somewhat of a reflection of what the MCU did, borrowing a lot of what the ultimate series offered while still honoring the original stories but not complete transferring the story as an on screen copy. I predict that, that might be the game plan for Jame's Gunn's new universe. It lends itself to offering new stories while at the same time honoring the origins.
I haven't read comics since 2021. I checked this out after hearing about how good this issue was being received after it dropped. I was really happy to read again.
I think this is less a version of the original Marvel ultimate universe and more an answer to the new one. The new Marvel ultimate universe and the DC Absolute universe do the exact same thing: they both kick off with a supervillain from the main universe going to a new one and creating a world in their image, where superheroes are the underdogs, not the establishment status quo. So both universes have stories that give twists on the originals but with the added conflict that they’re literally facing off against the supervillains who rule their worlds. I love that premise but it’s very much the same idea and isn’t simply a “modernized refresh” like the OG Marvel ultimates was.
I’m really excited for Wonder Woman in particular. We finally get a break from that awful CIA propaganda that is Tom Kings run. Also I hope they do Absolutely Aquaman. I’d read the fuck out of that
because if Batman can just kill any criminal, Gotham would either deteriorate into a warzone in a few weeks or be completely cleaned up. Either way Batman would no longer function in that situation. Also, if he can just kill people, then he is no different from the criminals he claims to want to stop.
Am I missing something here? How does the lore of an Elseworlds story affect that of the main DC timeline? That makes no sense. It's a completely separate universe with a completely separate timeline. That's the whole point of an Elseworlds story; to tell a story that isn't tied to the main DC canon. You can do whatever you want with it because it has no effect on the mainline comics. Again, that's literally the whole point. I'm lost...
I believe this would have been an awesome way to introduce someone new. Not rehash a character with decades of established lore, no matter how many successful or unsuccessful iterations we had of them. give some characters a break, bring in new ones, make people interested in the new with new and unknown quantities, not in simply comparing what was with what is. for the extremely casual reader/viewer, this is confusing. just saying.
@@formerjzm we've been conditined to pay attention only to the same old stuff... and, unless the creator is famous enough to have their own platform to promote it (see Invincible or The Boys) you rarely see anything new break through onto the market.
DC tried that after their Metal event. They had a line of new titles under the banner of 'The New Age of DC Heroes'. All those titles were cancelled in about a year of launching.
Calling it "revolutionary" is a bit much, but I did enjoy the first issue. The annoying part was in DC ALL In when they created the Absolute universe and immediately hinted about an eventual crossover.
Not a fan of the battle axe symbol. My adolescent self is kicking me for saying that but meh. Fine if he's a heavyweight brawler. That's cool. The cape? Kinda cool. We'll see how it plays out, though.
Dc comics just suck, the franchise is rotten with inconsistencies from writers who try and put their spin on things and get cycled out for another group of writers doing the same thing. Why else would dc do so many hard and soft reboots trying to reset broken and overpowered characters and poor execution? Case and point, dc attempts their version of the ultimates universe marvel published almost 25 years ago.
2017: The Bat Who Laughs
2024: *The Bat Who Lifts*
loved the first issue. feels like reading the dark knight returns for the first time.
For real. I went in to Absolute Batman completely blind, and thought this was a Dark Knights Return origin story
Man I wish we had Comicstorian around to read this to us. RIP
Benny would have loved it 😢

A nice detail I like about this version is in most versions crime alley is Batman’s origins and in this version crime alley is LITERALLY his origin.

Interesting juxtaposition of the Background of the original storylines. I'll take a look at it.

Primarily, everything will become a lot more misproportioned and rectangular.
LOVING THE ABSOLUTE COMIC SERIES!
Not a comic book guy here: why does everyone put on so much emphasis on the no killing rule, when literaly everything else can/has been altered?

Bad writing.
@@empoweredshemphowardBad thinking
It's a good way to keep the villains around so they don't run out and have to keep creating new ones
I loved Scott and Greg's batman and Francis Manapul's Flash run too.
YES ABSOLUTE BATMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do hope to get an Absolute Aquaman, please 🙏🏿 😫.
They are launching a new Aquaman book in January! Not an Absolute books, but they may do one if these books keep crushing it in sales.
I wonder how Bain will be portrait in this series? Will he be double big or will he be a scrawnie pipsqueak that Batman will break the back of?

Reading this was amazing.
Bruce is a beef of a man
Um, he doesn't hate jokes. He just never laughs. No one ever seen him laugh. 🤦🏾♂️
Will it die off like New 52, Earth One?
How good is batman's logic?
Do this for every issue, then I won't have to convince my wife to let me buy comics again😅

No
unfortunately no one would pay attention and thats why original ip gets rebooted everytime

You know cuz Crisis on Infinite Earths, Infinite Crisis, Final Crisis, Flashpoint, New 52, Earth One and DC Rebirth weren't confusing AF enough
Just think of this as Dc’s Ultimate universe.
the chunkiest bat boy and his 27 😅

Endevor Batman

Comb over here and I ask you a question ⁉️
Used to like it when artists would spend time drawing decently & add backgrounds instead of this stuff. Looks worse than 1st Gen AI junk.
Are you blind? I hope so because if not, you just have terrible taste.
Your producer doesn't know one of the most famous quotes in cinema? That's sad.
Hey remember when you guys stabbed Chris Hardwick in the back?
