I have this on my Essentials Shelf. I loved Watson before I read this, and love him more now. I possibly might have muttered, “What? You dunderhead! How dare you say that?”
But I still love the book. It’s an amusing and sometimes provocative look at my life-long favorite genre.
When I saw the thumbnail, I thought you were holding up Marion Chesney's Snobbery With Violence and couldn't figure out why it was essential. This book sounds much more interesting.
I've discovered it is the Colin Watson and is available on Kindle.
Great book, I have a lovely 2nd ed from 1979 which I found years ago in a charity shop.
That's exactly the kind of thing I'm hoping the Brattle eventually provides!
Is this the same Colin Watson that wrote detective novels? I was British and died in 1983. Or is this a different chap? Either way it made for an interesting video Steve.
