- The Basant kite flying festival was banned in Pakistan’s Punjab province in 2007.
The government imposed the ban because of unsafe practices. But despite a police crackdown, every year hundreds of people continue to fly kites from their rooftops.

Why not just set aside designated space for kite festival? Then monitor it for safety
The problem is people will still shoot them. The whole deep tradition behind it is the fun of getting on your roof and flying with everyone else.
1. Not many large open spaces in Pakistani cities for this
2. People think they're cool to defy rules and regulations in Pakistan. Its a weird mentality here.
@@AbsolAhm Well I guess with something that appears initially rather harmless, I guess it gives a kick when everyone does it.
@@AbsolAhm Defying rules is awesome, don't be a square, ignore the rules and don't care ;)

As a kid, I used to love the colors of kites. My favourite was chhajj.
Kite flying is so memorable for the children. From making kites, to flying them, there is so much happiness to it.
1:48 the man with bandages on his thumbs says it all, we also have this kind of problem in brazil, kids flying kites with their lines soaked in powdered glass to cut others kites, like a duel, but this also brings many casualties, many bike drivers die with their neck cut in half because of that.
Would make sense why kites are banned
It isn't a major problem now right? O remember my mom telling me to never do that, even though I didn't had a kite at the time 😂

Their are many solutions available. But the most easiest way is to utilize the waste metal to make wires and then these wires should be tied between the light polls present in mid of the roads. This way the thread won't fall on the road and cost lives. One thing to note is that the air direction remains the same most of the time and on the bigger and wider roads, most of these incidents happen. So it's not necessary to take this precaution on each and every road. Moreover the volume of this business is so big that it can lift the economy of the country. But the thing is their's no one serious about it because the biggest stake holder involved in this event is the poor.
SO MANY of these kites are beautiful !
Their strings are too dangerous to fly in the air becus it may cut your hands or injure anyone who passes by

Where I am in Canada, some were attaching razor blades and wire tails to the kites and the parks were littered with blades, wire etc. in the grass. I think they ended up banning kites in certain parks altogether.
Where in Canada are you, this is terrifying!
In Brazil people usually apply glue and steel powder on the kite's string in order to take down other kites. That shit is dangerous as hell and has killed many people, specially bikers
@@SPACEXYZ123 I think the police and park officials couldn't keep going around and asking each person to reel in their kite to inspect it all the time so it makes more sense to ban it altogether.
@@familyguyjokes I'm in Scarborough, in Toronto.
@@SPACEXYZ123 Police can't check every kitew they made
Fire works are also illegal in some states of us, if it's injured others, should be banned, nothing to nagging
I do undestand the Police's point of view. It is practically impossible to monitor thousands of kite flyers all over the country and check to see if they're doing it safely. The best thing to do is to have designated kite-flying areas, away from power lines and other dangers, where troublemakers can be easily spotted.
Also, maybe wean people off celebratory gunfire and into fireworks? I'm guessing that's less dangerous, if still not totally safe.
ruclips.net/video/1n-C1BO_54Y/видео.html
they could just ban celebratory gunfire or even carrying guns during festivities, and if wires are the problem, they could just walk by the people flying kites and look at their spools to see if it's wire or string. to arrest people, they have to walk up to them too. and then they could just leave if nothing dangerous is happening...
Ban the gunfire, sure, but why ban kites? If the problem isnt the celebration itself, rather the shooting, theres no need to arrest people just flying kites. Really strange approach to a fairly simple problem, but whats new there lol.
Most ppl get injured with the string of the kite ....Here it ppl not only fly kites but rather there is competition btw two kites and during the process one has to loose his kite this causes string detached from the kite fell to the road and in cases when person pull his string back after loosing his kite this string sometimes rub against the neck of some bike rider or pedestrian down street causing cut throat as the string is lapped with powder glass in the process of its making....... Its not the plain string as in west ..In pakistan its literally glass powder making the string a sharp object

@@syedhasham2640 thank you for the explanation, now there is another layer of understanding to the whole issue 🌻
@@syedhasham2640 Ah, I had no idea. In that case, i suppose with the volume of discarded strings and kites, it could be serious. I wonder if maybe we could see a gradual transition to safer kites, with cotton/cloth strings and bodies made of a compostable material. Not sure if thats really practical though lol, for now people will just have to practice common sense and common courtesy, i imagine.
ruclips.net/video/1n-C1BO_54Y/видео.html
Imagine that... they have a festival to celebrate something as simple as the arrival of Spring, and people die/are wounded because others fire guns.
@Christopher Meisner No, we don't want noisy pollution creator truckers from your country.
The real reason is cultural. It's a hindu festival called uttarayan. Elites don't want comman populace to be reminded of their hindu heredity
Oh no this must be a nightmare for air traffic and everything in the avionics area
More for the people in bikes, especially non crowded areas, you could get a serious slice in your throat if a metal string even grazes it. I remember when I was visiting Pakistan and drove my bike, I was warned to be careful when driving because of this.
there is no chance that an airplane will fly over that area, air traffic isn't every where and there r certain protocols which r followed in the areas where there r airports. This festival is there for decades & no such event has happened wen it became a hazard for air traffic.
All fun and games until someone gets decapitated randomly while walking in a street
To those who are surprised by the ban of a so called beautiful festival just bcz of it many people lost their lives just by the string of kites😢

I think they should crackdown metal wires or any other illegal use of threads and also weapons. "Basant" is a historic festival and many people love it. Instead of treating the patient they want to kill it!
It is more sensible to educate people about precautions and safety.
This is pakistan for you 🤣
And I am from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Same happens in India, but kite flying is not banned, use of Sharp Threads are banned bcz it lead to death of many people
Poor kites.
Designate specific places in each area or society for kites flyers and avoid Chinese threads .
Who knew flying kites was an act of stupidism? Never misunderestimate the stupid.
does anyone have a link to song used in the beginning?
Its Basant wala scene.
Government should assign an open field where these people can fly their kites. With police monitoring if they have metal wires or things that is illegal. It's a festival there should be food and drinks as they fly their kites.
