Rae Khalil Debuts Track “Firefly,” Talks Importance of Artist Development + Putting in Work

- Hailing from Torrence, California, rising artist Rae Khalil made her debut on Sway's Universe premiering her single "Firefly" off her latest release, 'Girlfriend.' MCing for about four to five years now, Khalil deferred her school enrollment from South High to a musical theatre school where she then began to immerse herself more into Hip-Hop-crediting Wu-Tang Clan and Biggie for sparking her interest in the genre. When asked about the origin of her name, she explains that being someone who is very family oriented, she chose her middle name, Rae, and her brother's first name, Khalil- liking how the combination sounded and what it represents. Her closeness to her family is apparent when her mother Tyra, who is also a singer, joins the stage to give a beautiful rendition of "I Don't Wanna Lose You," by the great Phyllis Hyman.

100% agree, Bo's interference was immature. It wasn't just interfering with Rae it was also frustrating for the viewers who wanted to see Rae perform without Bo's arms flailing around everywhere. Sorry but she easily could have won the show just based on talent alone. I felt that Chance was on his hotep shit even allowing Bo to skip the auditions. Either way I want to keep the focus on Rae. I'm a fan and she was the most unique on the show. D Smoke is dope but he's also a Kendrick clone in many respects. I get some vibes of Lauryn, Joey Bada$$, and a little Syd but I wouldnt say she's directly descended from those influences. Rae you've made a new fan in me and I look forward to listening to Girlfriend and whatever you put out in the future.
