The Legend of Māui & Rata
      Māui:
As legends would have it, many centuries before the great migration to Aotearoa,, two brothers had decided to voyage from their homeland of Egypt. As far as stories go, the brothers [after circumnavigating more than half the globe] would find themselves upon the uninhabited Islands of Hawaii. One of the brothers [supposedly ashamed to return home] opted to stay & settle within the islands naming one in particular,, after himself. The brother, not being satisfied by the fish abound,, decided to find fish further abroad. By using nothing other than the blood from his nose as bait, cast his hook deep within the murky depth. Upon the realisation he was not landing a fish but instead fishing a land, reeled the great fish in naming it also after himself,, Te Ika ā Māui.

Both of our cultures have basically been through the same hardships throughout history, even today, and as Polynesians, you guys fighting and being able to keep what is in my opinion one of the most unique and beautiful cultures in the world still alive and trying to keep it as lively as possible, really gives me hope for our Native peoples in the future👌🏽🤙🏽💪🏽✊🏽 Peace, love, and respect to you and all Polynesian brothers and sisters out there🤙🏽👌🏽💪🏽✊🏽

Ah no we're an independent iwi of our own, maybe half my aunties are Ngati Porou but that doesn't make us ngati porou. I regard my self as Ngai Tamanuhiri even if my mother is Rongo Whakaata. Ngai Tamanuhiri has a closer affliation to Ngati Porou than Rongo Whakaata has. Ngai Tamanuhiri goes from Manutuke to almost mahia.

May I point out just how beautiful this culture is: not only are women involved, both young and old, being just as steadfast and strong as the men, but when the men come through, you not only have the young through to the old but even those with disabilities aren't left out (young man wearing NYC t-shirt). I mean, it's absolutely heartfelt and consuming. Tingles. Everywhere.

In Māori mythology, Rūaumoko (also known as Rūamoko) is the god of earthquakes, volcanoes and seasons.[1][2] He is the youngest son of Ranginui (the Sky father) and Papatūānuku (the Earth mother) (commonly called Rangi and Papa).[2]
Ruaumoko Patera, named after this god, is one of many paterae (shallow craters) on Io, one of Jupiter's moons.[3]

This is awesome to watch. It must have really been something to experience and film. I have some exposure to the Cherokee Nation as I live 45 min from Cherokee, NC and actually visited the reservation before the casino went in, but never have I witnessed something this powerful. Great documentation. To me, this is pure raw human power at its finest. You can see it even in the young ones' eyes that they are ready to protect this earth with their lives and bare hands. Awesome.

This is taking part in new zealand, my native kin The maori do this when it comes to ceremony (A different haka to suit the ceremony) and in recent times to show protest. Funnily, we do have a relationship with native american communities as we do visit and are visited by them at times.
But thanks for bearing witness to one of our cultral practices and enjoying it :)
