Originally Recorded 10/10/2017
This not-so-healthy Thunderbolt is located at Chochrane Elementary. I recorded an ambience a month before recording this (of which I have yet to post) and I noticed a very sick T-bolt in the distance. The following month, I rushed to this suspected location and behold, I found the sick siren. I tried messaging MetroSafe about this shortly after the recording, but I haven't heard back since. So, I'm uncertain of this siren's fate. Let's hope this gets fixed rather than the less-appealing (yet inevitable) option of replacement.
A new thing I'll be doing with videos now is if you'd like a high-quality audio recording you'd like to download, I do have a SoundCloud account where you can download it from. The link will be below. These are all free of course, but if you do plan on using the audio for RUclips or something along those lines, all I ask for is credit in the description.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

Can't keep a steady tone. It makes it sound like a hand crank siren
lightnindash 3804 rip siren
yandere_matt ☹
@Xavi Garcia no, it’s still there
C’mon, Thundie! You can do this!
At least it still is loud so in the event of a tornado warning they will still be effective. Its not like its quiet it just is wavering in pitch.
actually it's very quiet, it has a reverse wired blower sadly
Someone commented a similar thing on the O’Fallon video, and I’ll write a similar comment here. As awful as it sounds, this siren is actually in pretty good shape. The blower and rotator are both running smoothly. It’s also very loud, despite the blower being wired backwards. All it needs are some new brushes and collector rings. Should cost no more than $300.
and the blower is reversed
Not healthy at all it sounds sick with the chopper being underpowered
Connor pointed out that the super sharp pitch drops could have actually been caused by the bearings wearing out and trying to slow the chopper down, as opposed to bad brushes, which would make sense given the recent videos of it
Yeah #PrayToThunderbolts
@@thefrankfiles1 it’s been fixed
I think the brushes are not making a proper connection to the collector rings in the rotator box
Thomas Castellanos-Arroyo you think?
I agree
That's my thoughts at least.
Thomas Castellanos-Arroyo only 1003’s have the extra set of collector rings in the rotator box. The rest of them have them in the chopper tube. But it does sounds like brush and collector ring issue.
little steel wool and some TLC'll fix er right up
why is it to me that it seems a lot of these thunderbolts now from other videos are now reverse wired and not working right/sick ?.. other than that though cool video :)
because they were first manufactured in the 1950s? so the 1000t here could possibly be around 30 years old?
if it was made in the 50s it Tbolts would be 70 yrs old but that seems kinda old for thse sirens like if they where 70 u think they would barely een work rigt?
The overwhelming majority of sick thunderbolts are C series, which were very cheaply manufactured
@@indymetrosirens5643 oh no federal signal would never make sirens in poor condition...unless they age with time, and regular use.
This could be a Series C Thunderbolt. They were known to have cheaply made motor/motor frames which caused them to have issues keeping a steady RPM.
Ex 1003
@@1000BT bro why do you comment on every single thunderbolt video and say that it’s an “ex-1003”
Louisville only ever had A series thunderbolts. However, the head on this one was replaced in 2013, so it is theoretically possible that they stuck a C series head on it
I hope they keep it up
I didn’t know the Thunderbolt’s came with a 10 speed transmission.
Underrated comment
Are you going to come to the Wapakoneta thunderbolt?
Aahh yes. The Wapakoneta Thunderbolt siren that deafened roof workers in the past! That was funny. 😂🤣😂🤣
Reverse wired also.
No you are wrong
@@eows612siren6 I am very much right and I'm quite okay with sounding arrogant about it.
The blower is audible over the siren firstly, the harmonics of the siren sound are different to that of a correctly wired version, the wind down is extended, and the chopper volume fades out and back in again on shutdown - all of which are indicators of a reversed blower.
@@eows612siren6 that means a lot coming from a crappy modulator siren
@@silasmcgee3647 Wha?
@@silasmcgee3647 It wasn't the sirens fault, besides bad brushes in either the chopper motor or bad collector rings. The blower though was not the fault of the Siren.
Lol even a sick Tbolt can still out do most sirens for loudness/power 👏 Get well soon Thunderbolt 🔊
Get well soon Thunderbolt. You are awesome. Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well.
leaf blower thundiebolt
Lol
This reminds me of the Great Falls, SC Thunderbolt 1000.
@deludedrobloccplayer that is the one
it was converted to a 1000T because the 5 port rotor was jammed in the chopper and the blower was converted to a 4M blower because one of the 6M’s belts were loose and came flying off the blower and the 6M was using an electric motor but here’s how the belts were flying off the 6M. 3 years later, the blower motor moved close to the blower and one of the belts fell off the blower and the pulleys flew off the motor and the main blower and one of the pulleys were still spinning when they came off and started bouncing around the blower housing and grinding the walls of the blower housing and started flying to another place.
If this thing is still standing, someone should go check up on it to see if it's still holding up.
Glist meant to put an audio recorder there the last time he was in Louisville but he was running late and didn’t have time
This is comparative to the Napoleon and O’Fallon Thunderbolts
The O'Fallon Thunderbolt was much worse.
the youngest video found if this siren was two months old. So, it is possible this siren got the chosen bad fate. (possible it is the same siren)
Noah Miller you mean to Years?
Nice recording. Shame it sounds so bad. Unfortunately the decalled unit at Zachary Taylor got replaced over the summer, not long after we recorded it.
Thanks, but yeah that's a bit of a shame to hear. I wish I could've recorded it, but I did get Wilder a few months back. Hopefully I'll get that video up soon.
I want to hear the last 1000 as well as wilder. Good luck, i'm glad all of Louisville's bolts are documented
Same here, I might try that 1000 next month. I just hate the area it's in. I might also do another possibly sick 1000T. I did an ambience near the west side of town this month, and I heard another one with pitch issues, though not as bad as this one.
@@DSRX100 Sick Thunderbolt at west side of Louisville is the one at Wilkerson Elementary School. The one Stuart Middle School hasn't been recorded in years. The thunderbolt at Olmsted Academy North also has pitch issues.
Oh god this poor thing. At the end it sounded like it just completely gave up.
Definitely sounds like someone down brushes in the motor as well as maybe some worn down bearings. If they get those replaced, it should be as good as new.
The bearings were completely shot but the head was replaced recently and it works good as new (other than an air leak)
The commutator wipers are probably worn to almost nothing.
R.I.P thunderbolts
wrecked tahoe ☹🙁😟😢
I have a strong urge to edit coughing sounds onto this.
LOL I wonder how that would sound
Oof. She's Sick 😷
Actually it's a him because girls have things that look like hair on top of their eyes
@@sarahscartoonchannel7772 it’s a boy for other reasons also
Sounds like the CVT Transmission on a car
THAT POOR THING MIGHT BE SCREAMING FOR HELP!! IT MAKES ME CRY!!😢😢😭😭😭
Stop it right now now I have to go to another vid XDXD it does sound depressed (like a middle schooler)
Oh stop crying.
How did it make you cry?
Rip bearings/collector rings. D:
Late but this siren’s head was replaced within the last 2 years and it sounds way better
Rest in peace federal signal thunderbolt 1000t
Tyler will record this siren next month to see if it has been fixed.
Ben Cerne I have a sneaking suspicion that this one has been replaced by a 2001-130
I wonder if this is why my hometown of Columbia, Missouri replaced their Thunderbolts, because they were getting old and experiencing problems 😢
At least they replaced them with new Federal Signal outdoor warning sirens 😊
Someone fix that thunderbolt not replace it!!!! I love thunderbolts!!!
Me too
Bet the ambience from that thing makes you trip out like "daym where's city service for that thing"
Poor thunderbolt but damn!! Thats a nice thumbnail
The poor thing sounds awful i hope they fix it. The motor might be wearing out.
Sirens & Thunderbolts 1003 Poor Thunderbolt doesn't seem to be feeling well.
Sirens & Thunderbolts 1003 I sure hope that this Thunderbolt is repaired. It should be saved. Thunderbolts are awesome.
Danielle Tirpkoff yeah the Thunderbolt 1003 in valley springs, South Dakota west is dead the county is not using nor repairing it's now used as a parts source for the East unit and the county already took the agastat out of the west unit and put it in the East unit. ☹
The motor is fine it just needs new brushes
Do you know if you’ll be back to Mount Vernon, Illinois in the near future?
It's a possibility. I just got a new job, so my schedule is a bit different than before.
It needs new collector rings
COLLECTOR RINGS COLLECTOR RINGS COLLECTOR RINGS COLLECTOR RINGS
I don’t think collector rings are the issue here. Considering how the pitch is jumping all over the place, as opposed to just at certain points in the rotation it’s most likely the brushes
@@1000BT Shut up please
Glist took an audio recording of this thing today and the bearings have gotten quite a bit worse. Now it sounds a lot like the one in Roberts, WI. The blower wiring has been corrected at least lol
www.soundcloud.com/glisteningdiamond/very-sick-thunderbolt-1000t-cochrane-elementary-school-louisville-ky
Yeah that sounds like the Louisville way of fixing things lol...
Who else can hear the blower the whole entire time? LOL
Sounds like a lawnmower
Sounds like a model 2t motor lol, unsteady power broken wire
Nice
It kinda sounds like a WW2 Air Raid Siren
Sounds like fast wail
Did it smell of burnt insulation or brushes?
7367Network I was wondering the same thing lol
I somereasonly like how this preforms...
Ayee!! Are u gonna get the new 10v they just put up by paradise one day?
Yes, right now I've got that siren on my record list.
DSRX100 aye and while your at it lol ask them if they can test them in a wail tone (attack) tell them test them like chandlers fire calls when the put it in attack mode then they should know lol or idk 😂 I’ve never tried it
3:14 blower off
This Thunderbolt doesn’t look half bad, but it definitely doesn’t sound as good as it looks
With it trying to attempt at doing Attack is this going to cause long term damage to the Siren
Gary Hisgun it was actually just running alert
It’s like thunderbolt is tired
*thunderbolt man I’m so tired *
They added a new modulator near the highway.
I was driving past Downtown on the highway and I looked to my right. And there was a new modulator on that little brick stand next to the Belle of Louisville.
It wasn't there last time we went past there. But there's one now
Hmm, that's interesting. Is this one on top of a building? I know there's one near Joe's Crab Shack along the river very close to where you mentioned.
@@DSRX100 that's the one
Yeah, that one has been there for awhile.
What is it that you use to hear the siren activation tones, if I may ask?
Radio scanner
thunderbolt needs To get replaced at some point
I think it might be the collector rings
It sounds like attack on slow wail
Its acting like it is trying to stall itself out when it get to full speed
Damn, that baby does not good.
Thunderbolt 1000AT (1000T Type A) is sick
We’re pretty sure this unit fell down in a weather event in the past few days (April 2) and is damaged beyond repair.
Nik's World darn it. Would have liked for somebody to have recorded it once more to see what it sounds like now
@@Elizabeth-ts4om This is the 3rd time a thunderbolt in Louisville has fallen down due storms. The first one happened to the one that was at Kenwood Elementary in 2008 and was totally destroyed, another one was at Crosby Middle School a few years later but survived. Both thunderbolts were replaced with 2001-130s. And this one may end up getting replaced.
Gloat informed me a week ago that it is still standing
Needs new batteries someone, its a giant kids toy siren 😂😂😂
forever spinnin18 thunderbolts don’t have batteries. It most likely needs new brushes and/or collector rings
May I use this for a music project
Well I think is the power generator is weak because it may sound healthy but it’s sick
Aoi Ryugoku there’s no generator on this siren. The brushes are bad
Seems like the collector rings are not making a good connection
You can do it! From ur friend thunderbolt 1003
Almost sounds like ill fast wail.
Ikr
DSRX100 i was wondering how you make your intro
Sounds like the collector rings are not making good contact
Poor thing needs rewired plus new collector rings and brushes.
Conure It's in need of repair. Hope it gets repaired soon. Then it should be as good as new.
Lol collector ring collector ring collector ring
Oh dear god, it has Bogata Disease
Ok who gave this thing meth?
That Blower needs help or the Chopper
Has this been fixed or replaced yet? This siren sounds comparable to the one at JTown High School before it was fixed?
Ben Cerne ironically there’s a video of this one taken a few years ago (when it was still working properly) and you can hear the sick Thunderbolt at Jtown in the background.
@@Elizabeth-ts4om Apparently, this siren had replacement head since 2012. The old one was taken down that year and was replaced by this sick one. There is a 2013 recording of this siren in Louisvilletorn8o's channel when it was still perfectly healthy. A 2016 video of this siren didn't sound the best.
Type A + series R = Series C
That motor is gonna completely burn out soon. It’s on its last days.
The motor itself is fine. The brushes are worn so it’s not getting a good electrical connection
@@indymetrosirens5643 Actually, if the worn brushes are used for too long without being replaced, it can start to damage the commutator itself after a while.
Bro hit puberty fr
Do you live in Kentucky?
GMTX 2613 no. He lives in southern Indiana
I'm just across the river in Indiana.
he lives in jasper indiana
1000ATSC-BDTS
Aww yeah
Somebody audio recorded this and they corrected the blower wiring, but now the bearings are shot
Sounds more like a brush issue to me than bearings, but i suppose it could be fairly hard to tell anyway.
@@childishtombino1275 listen to the newer recordings of it. It’s clearly a bearing issue
@@indymetrosirens5643 Could you link me a vid? I can't find any that have bearing issues.
@@childishtombino1275 here you go ruclips.net/video/hoq3rtLwevc/видео.html
what happend to the siren? what the heck is wrong with that siren?
They sure had more sick sirens ._.
it isn't going to get fixed. Louisville KY Is replacing all their Thunderbolt's with 2001-130's
freckly_BPG Games, Alarms, And More where did you hear this?
Jefferson County EMA
This poor thing
This siren is on drugs.
LOL
It’s drunk.
Very, very drunk
Sounds like a leaf blower with bad gas.
I hear 2001s in the background
Whoo!
Sick sirens
i can hear the blower! also sounds like eather faulty wiring or dying moter
Reversed
This siren is still standing as of February 2020
Good to know, I wonder if it's been fixed.
DSRX100 knowing Louisville’s current maintenance of their Thunderbolts probably not.
Honestly it probably just rotates with the blower now
@@Elizabeth-ts4om Yeah, wouldn't surprise me. It's a real shame. Louisville had some of the best maintained T-bolts out there...now it's one of the worst.
@@DSRX100 The first known sick thunderbolt in Louisville was located at Trunnell Elementary School. It had been like that since the late 1980s up until it was replaced in 2005 at the time it had brush and collector ring issues. It's replacement, another thunderbolt is now located next door at Doss High School. There is a recording from 1995 of the sick thunderbolt on youtube.
Thunderbolt 1000t is screaming in pain cuz it's giving birth
Sound like a barbershop quartet 👍🏻
Sorry I'm late showing this, but it's so strange how it's gotten into that condition so quickly. I filmed this one back in 2016: ruclips.net/video/THz0z_FnUb0/видео.html
Yeah, it's crazy that it went from THAT to THIS, especially after just a year.
Joshua Williams I just watched your video, and it kind of sounds like it was starting to get a little sick
As far I know. The thunderbolt is still there. Do you know if they fixed it yet? If not, it probably sounds twice as worse than it was in this video.
Bearings typically deteriorate very quickly once they start to go bad. In recent videos of it, it barley reaches a terminal 1 pitch, much like the former Robert’s, Wisconsin Thunderbolt
God! It sounded like it was barfing!
The wind up sounds like a speaker siren
What would this be replaced with?
2001-130 most likely
@@DSRX100 hdwn
Can we consider this attack?
2:44 YOU GOT A GUN!!! PLS DONT SHOOT AND KILL THAT SIREN!!!! HE IS PROTECTING PEOPLE! HES WEEK!!! AND DONT MAKE HIM WORSE!!!! DONT WORRY THUNDERBOLT!! ILL SAVE YOU!
Um...I don't see a gun.
if u look very close at 2:44 it looks like your playing call of duty. that thing your holding at 2:44 it looks like a gun
I wasn't holding anything but my phone to record the wide shot. The part I think you're referring to, is my tripod handle.
I put gas powered
