It’s been seven years since the last I recorded this classic, so I figured I’d head back out and see how it’s doing. Thankfully, it’s still kicking along fine, especially with its 5M blower. It throws quite a punch that you don’t get with many modern sirens. I even setup a bit further than usual and could still feel the sound in my chest. There’s one more Thunderbolt siren that still needs to be filmed in 4K but after that, I’m going to start moving on to their other sirens in the area if I hit up Paducah again.
You can find this siren at the Oak Grove Cemetery behind a shack that the city owns. Sirens in McCracken County are tested on the first Saturday of the month at 1pm with a full attack cycle followed by a short alert cycle a few minutes later. Like many places, tests are cancelled if severe weather is expected.

Doesn’t sound half bad for being 63 years old. If I remember correctly, this one was installed in 1961.
Considering how FS&S became FS in 1976 and that has the FS logo on it I think it was installed later than 61

@@tornadof25 federal signal is kind of a general term here for when the age of the bolt isn’t specified. Those in the community know a few of Paducah’s 1000’s are 5M’s from 61. Technically correct title would be “FS&S Thunderbolt 1000”

Isn’t this that one thunderbolt in a meme were there was a sign that said “play area” next to the graveyard and the thunderbolt could be seen at the back of the graveyard
