Originally Recorded 11/5/2016
Met up with Chris Brewington and Nick Metts a couple months back to record this beastly, single-toned Thunderbolt located at the cemetery north of town. Considering my luck with Paducah's system, I wasn't quite sure the three-hour trip was worth it. Once 1PM hit (their designated test time), nothing happened. However, after pacing back and forth around the cameras more than once, tones played through Nick's radio and the siren wound up instantly. I think all of us were impressed just at the sheer fact it went off. Some startled city workers came out from the building below the siren and checked out the blower beneath the siren head. They seemed excited as well. At the end you can hear a distant, dual-toned Thunderbolt. It might be from Lourdes Hospital, which originally was thought to be single toned. I'll definitely come back especially since Paducah is slowly replacing their civil-defense era system as it steadily deteriorates.
Enjoy, and as always comment, like, and subscribe for more. Thanks!

This Thunderbolt has seen better days.
Gary.L Is Cool 101 Yea. She could use a new paint job, no doubt there...
The Siren Kid the thing looks like someone poured salt all over it.
yeah. the chopper sounds like its scraping against the housing for it.
Lucas Hatch nope blower pushing air
The Siren Kid yeah but rustier. it could use some yellow paint to blend the rust in.
The attack signal timing is perfect! Great vid, Brandon. :)
I see a loud thunderbolt 1000 in the forest garage
Such a great day! Looking forward to our next Paducah trip and next meetup. Awesome video!
amazing attack signal! perfect timing too! I always have loved hearing 1000's in attack it sounds really cool!
bout time you uploaded this. lol
anyways that day was flipping awesome
Sounds perfect, looks awesome rusted like that
Wish they still made Thunderbolts
@WSD FILANOSKY that has nothing to do with what they said...
@@SNIXC Why are you socially challenged?
As you could tell, this Tbolt was seen better days, but this a older kind of 1000
They had these at Shepard Air Force Base (Wichita Falls, Texas circa 1970).
Looks like it has a proximity sensor on the chopper tube so the county can monitor if its rotating or not.
awesome video DSRX100
This sounds EPIC! Almost like a Chrysler, and right before it winds back up, the rotator stops for a second. Also love the sound of the static from the scanner. Gives it that old video feel, ya know.
I'm looking for a new, excellent camera. What camera did you use for this video?
I used my old Sony Handycam and a Cannon T5. If price isn't a major problem, I'd go with a DSLR. If it is, any point and shoot camcorder should be fine. I'd go maybe in the 200-300 price range.
Which Thunderbolt 1000s are 575 Hz at level 5 and which are 600 Hz? This one is 575 Hz
A rotating version of the ASC OM-120
Trains, Fire Trucks and more 5587 It's more of a rotating Model 2
So it does 3 minutes of attack and a minute of alert?
From the looks of the age on this one it might be an original Cold War Civil Defense installation.
i believe it is.
Nice!
What’s on the weather cap
Shall the 1000 live on!
I live here in paducah,ky
Is that an onboard mic or an external mic? It sounds really nice either way.
4J25 what you mean by that?
dumb me I thought you were talking about the siren. XD I don't know why mic looked like speaker to me. *facepalm*
I'm using a mix between 2 onboard mics and one external. I use my external as the main audio then, my DSLR gets one channel and the camcorder gets the other channel to get a better stereo effect. Since the external can't handle wind very well, I sometimes use my Handycam's mic as my primary.
Ah okay. Thanks!
Do you know if Paducah plans to replace their sirens anytime soon?
This Bolt is really loud, thanks to the 5M blower. Always loved 5M 1000s.
P.S Why is there a hissing sound?
Not sure about the hissing. Something about the blower I guess.
7367Network maybe the siren vibrating from the sound or the motor?
7367Network that hissing sound is the screen rattling I think
I think it's just the amount of air the blower is pushing.
5M blowers can sometimes have kind of a hissing undertone. That's probably what it is
Makes it sound like an oversized model 2
Probably pushing about 130-131 dB despite being in a rusty state.
is the blower off cuz it sounds high pitched
or is it refurbished
Storm Flare no. It’s an older blower design. It’s from 1960-1964. It’s a 5M blower. Not common like most 4M’s. Makes the siren louder.
My state and near my city Louisville Kentucky
This is one of those rare thunderbolts that doesn't have the distinct raspy noise
Correct me if I'm wrong
single tone lol
3:35 Hold on Mike a got a call on the other line *siren goes off* 😭😭
Rust bucket
What happened to it!!
Piss-poor maintenance, but at least it works.
I MEAN ! 2001-130
IN DECKUNG GEHEN!
What if there was a funeral going out there and that went off, they have funerals on any day.
I guess everyone will have to cover their ears. Testing is done just once a month so it's not like its going off very often.
@@DSRX100 I hope they won't have no funeral doing that time.
🔊 attang
Ooooo, 5M. Also I noticed that the blower and rotator stop for the slightest fraction of a second at the end of each cycle.
The agastat is probably one second too low.

Sounds good, but looks really out of shape. That horn is really rusty. I don't like single tone sirens to much, but this one is pretty good.
if it has black spots they should call it or make a company called COWBOLT Productions
I thought 1000s were single-toned while the 1000Ts were dual-toned.
You're right. 1000s are single while 1000Ts are dual. This is a 1000.
DSRX100
I mean, during the windups/wind downs of the attack signal, it sounds to me like it's dual-toned, so that's where I was confused.
Thanks for clarifying for me! :)
DSRX100
Oh, and BTW, +1 sub.
Thanks! You're probably hearing the blower which has a low pitch.
DSRX100
Maybe. I've never seen a siren up close and personal, but I know a lot about some. Take FS Thunderbolts/ACA Hurricanes, for example. They're the only 2 sirens to have blowers.
Sounds Like 2001-DC
Bruh not every siren sounds like a 2001 lol. Why does everybody comment this? I swear I will start deleting them if they appear on my channel.
@@SolidSableye Grow up
@@allen480 First of all, this was two years ago. Second, I'm not wrong. This sounds NOTHING like a 2001. In fact, the only similarity is that it's on a higher chopper level, causing the pitch, and ONLY the pitch to sound similar.
It's trying to sound like the 2001 siren
… no it’s not it’s way too low pitched
That thunder bolt is all rusted but works really nicely
Choper 3 or 4 dualtone thunderbolt 4:36
the federal signal thunderbolt 1000 that is cool
it sounds like rm_130
127, actually.
I you go look at the video of rm_130
Andrew Newcom It sounds like a Model 2, mostly because it uses the same chopper.
Probably is as loud as one as well!
That rotator needs to be fixed
whats wrong with the rotator
No, I like this sound I like it and it sounds very good and it sounds like an actual emergency siren
wetj
dirty siren lol
