yeah, I feel like thief lost it's charm because you can buy door and chest keys easily in this game. if maddening made them a rare commodity, then thief wouldn't be so low and maybe if the mastery skill was for every time you use lockpick, you get a chest/door key? or give enemies steal able, handy items that do not get claimed when you kill them. that's how I would fix thief anyway.

Ingrid Falcon Knight with a light lance, evade ring and focus on speed and stuff... I gaved her a dodge build, and she just... stays there against hordes. You can basically tank by actually not getting hit once. I really enjoy building Ingrid that way now, and she got rid of quite a big pack of enemies! Unmounting her will take away a tiny bit of her evasion but she won't get extra damage from bows and can get efects from the ground like a forrest or even thickets without slowing down to get there in the first place. I could talk about a lot of other classes and whatnot, but I just wanted to mention dodge builds in general. One of the downsides of this strategy is the lack of offensive power towards long distance enemies, but can be countered if you use certain gambits to give her distant counter or *spoilers* equip your unit the chalice, another way to counter a dodge build is to fight an enemy with a crit weapon/high crit chance. At the end it's about using your cards well and having more options so make it work!

Mortal Savant is used more to maximize damage output than to use two types of damage. One person could actually make good use of the Mortal Savant in the end game, and that is Marianne. She has Blutgang with Beast Fang and is good at swords, she can easily reach S+ in sword and one-shot almost every one with Beast Fang in the end game. The offensive mages are usually powerful enough without the +5, and they would prefer extra magic uses. Gremory is also great for Lysithea who gets nothing from Warlock. I also think Valkyrie is better than Dark Knight, as Lysithea and Hapi can snipe things from as far as 7 spaces away, and then canto away, and they’ll OHKO if they’ve been recruited sicne early game.

My thoughts on which Classes are useful to promote to. Any I don't mention, I see little to no value in.
    > Soldier's Reposition is an excellent Field Combat Art that can play a key role in moving Units closer to where they need to be. Defense +2 isn't too useful, however.
    > Myrmidon, Fighter, and Monk are the opposite--Speed +2, Strength +2, and Magic +2 can all be nice earlygame but Swap is far too situational to be useful; Shove it completely outclassed by Smite; and while Draw Back isn't terrible, I'd sooner recommend just learning Reposition or Smite.
    > Brigand's Death Blow, Mage's Fiendish Blow, and Archer's Hit Rate +20 are Skills I'd almost say are too useful to NOT learn. A free +6 damage and +20% Accuracy every time you initiate combat is just simply excellent, precious few other ways to describe it.
    > Pegasus Knight's Darting Blow can be similarly useful but primarily on Units like Petra or Leonie who are incredibly fast but not quite fast enough to reliably double. The Class itself is excellent as well.
    > Warlock gives Bowbreaker via Mastery which is certainly useful lategame, given the absurd number of Snipers and Bow Knights the game likes to throw at you. The Class also gives Black Tomefaire and, while less flexible than Dark Knight, is still a decent final Class option.
    > Bishop, however, is a far superior option, especially for Units like Linhardt, Lysithea, Hapi, and Manuela who all learn Warp. It lacks any ~faires but double Faith uses means 2 Warps which, even it you're not LTCing, can be useful for getting people out of sticky situations or just getting around the Map.
    > Assassin is overall just a solid Class with 06 Movement and Swordfaire. Lethality is trash but the Class itself is excellent.
    > Same case with Grappler, although Tomebreaker is excellent for similar reasons to Bowbreaker and 06 Movement alongside Fierce Iron Fist allowing 3 attacks regardless of AS is great.
    > Sniper is one of the game's best Classes, sporting Bowfaire, 1-3 range with Bows, and Hunter's Volley upon Mastery which grants two guaranteed attacks and, running off of Sniper's base Strength, is virtually stat-immune.
    > Paladin is the best option for obtaining Lancefaire on a male Unit. Even unmounted, you still retain 06 Movement, which is higher than most other Advanced Classes.
    > Wyvern Rider is fine to hang around in until Wyvern Lord but don't stay any longer.
    > Wyvern Lord and Falcon Knight are the game's two best Classes with Canto, 08 Movement, flight, Avoid +10, and overall excellent stats. Not much else to say.
    > War Master is IMO not as good as Grappler due to a lack of versatility in comparison but Axefaire AND Fistfaire combined with Crit +20 can ensure that Crits are frequent and powerful. Quick Reposte comes FAR too late to be useful unless you're planning on doing NG+.
    > Dark Knight is your only option for Dark Tomefaire and is essentially a magic-oriented Paladin with 1 less Movement. Still leaves you with 06 Movement even unmounted however.
    > Gremory grants no ~faires but double uses on all forms of Magic, perfect for Lysithea and Hapi.
    > Dark Flier is a magic-using flying Class with Canto. I honestly think that alone makes it good.
    > Valkyrie is odd, sporting only 06 Movement--04 Movement when unmounted, and no ~faires. But the +1 range to Dark and Black Magic effectively makes the Class a magic-oriented Archer so I think it's fine.
    > Trickster by itself is trash. Just so happens that Foul Play is an excellent Field Combat Art that only it can use. I think it's good to have at least one handy.

    • @g.n.s.153
      @g.n.s.153 4 года назад +13

@@yumm3608 To me Grappler vs War Master boils down to the unit's speed. If you can quad like Felix: War Master +20 crit is better but if you can't you'll get a lot more mileage out of Fierce Iron Fist than War Master Strike.
A similar argument can be made between Sniper and Bow Knight but with Bow Knight you'd want at least 1 good bow Combat Art. Curved Shot is nice but it's only 1 Mt and you're going to need more damage at some point.

@@yumm3608 What G.N.S. said. Enemies are in general much faster on Maddening and some Unit with good Speed that could pretty reliably double on Hard will suddenly find themselves struggling to do so on Maddening. And the lategame Grapplers, Assassins, and Falcon Knights are so fast that even your fastest Units like Petra, Leonie, and such will have a hard time doubling them. So stuff like Brave Weapons, Hunter's Volley, Fierce Iron Fist, Swift Strikes, and so on are all really good due to this.

Holy Knight is so close to being great. If it had double white magic use and was slightly less restrictive in its riding and lance requirements, it'd be an incredible healing class. I tried it out on Mercedes on my first playthrough on hard and it took a huge investment, but having her healing cover nearly an entire map and giving her canto was absolutely amazing. I really did miss the extra healing uses though. I sadly agree with the ranking, but I definitely encourage it for people looking to do something a little different with their healers. There's a niche worth exploring here.

Great Knight was severely undervalued here. You get lance and axe faires, weight -5 and a HORSE. The growth rates are meh, but the class can soak up hits and actually keep up with your army. If anything, fortress knight is a stepping stone to GK since GK does everything an FK can do, but with actual mobility.

Honestly, lances are only good if you’re Dmitri or a falcon knight, wyvern classes and axe classes give a feature with better perks, weight -5 is pretty useless once your strength and/or speed are high enough, and cavalry in general is pretty trash in this game simply because anything that isn’t neutral terrain slows them down substantially more than being on foot, meaning you have to lose the reasons you went for a mounted class in the fist place to get literally anywhere or get stuck behind everyone. Great Knight is definitely the worst of the cavalry classes too.

And that’s Lorenz Hellman Gloucester. This guy is practically the epitome of jack of all trades, master of none, and as a consequence is the bulkiest mage around. He does decent damage for a mage and can still finish people off, so he can afford take some hits and suck off his victims afterwards. Hell, Poison Strike isn’t too bad on Lorenz either against monsters (although that’s something you can to keep in reserve until you’re actually facing a lot of monsters, and even then you’re better off just mastering Mage and leaving behind Intermediate for good). Exclusively for Lorenz, Dark Bishop is “Master and Move On” tier and Dark Mage is “Stepping Stone.”

Excellent tier list overall! There are but a few missteps that I would see corrected. (Disclaimer, I have not started Maddening yet so there are potentially elements that I am overlooking for each of these items.)
Priest should be in stepping stone for *Byleth* specifically. If you're going Magic Byleth, Faith is substantially easier to train up than Reason for multiple reasons, and if you're going Male Byleth, Priest is your only early option for that sweet sweet +10% Charm Growth. However, it is undeniable that for literally every other character in the game, Priest is an easy "don't waste your time," so this is more of a nitpick than anything.
War Monk/Cleric I would consider endgame ready considering it's the only way to give women Fistfaire, and also Pneuma Gale is situationally useful. Conversely, I would put Valkyrie in "master it and move on" for much the same reason Pegasus Knight is in that tier. As great as it is, Dark Knight is just strictly better, trading the +1 Ranges for +1 Move and Faires.

Mastering the beginning classes is likely to happen anyway just from normal play, but Magic +2 and Speed +2 are the only ones I ever used in later play. Also, weirdly enough, Draw Back... a combat art I never used until Maddening.
Armor Knight is also good for getting extra defense stat ups in the early game. It is also a very easy class to master and increase armor skills in for -weight abilities. A great skill to have on early and even later game Maddening mode.
Dark Mage... Poison Strike is situationally useful against boss monsters, but yeah. Only needs unlocking to get to Dark Bishop.
Mercenary needs to be mastered. Vantage is broken. Like insanely broken. Even on Maddening, it is too good. The game tricks you because it's a sword class, but it's greatest use is on magic classes. Putting Vantage on someone like Lysithea or Constance? Sea of bodies.
Thief actually has a hilarious side effect where you can steal the Dark Gem and Dark Thyrsus on Claude's route. Pointless, but funny, so Steal gets a pass for that alone. Also good for early game with 5 movement and not being hindered by all the damn trees.
Brawler is good for one thing- Unarmed combat. Is it useful? No. Is it hilarious to take on an entire army and ancient dragons with my bare hands? Yes. Yes it is.
Darting Blow is useful on any female unit, physical or not. AS + 6 is crazy good. It is the best early game class by far.
Assassin is fine as an endgame class because of the better movement along with Swordfaire. Would've preferred Bowfaire over Locktouch...
Hero is weird. Built in Vantage is amazing, but why is skilling up Axe a requirement when it doesn't even get Axefaire?
Warrior is one of those that would be good if it weren't for the existence of Wyvern classes. There's no sense in using them when you can use the superior Wyvern Rider/Lord. But Wrath can have its uses so it's good to master.
Dark Bishop is good for one reason, and that's the Lifetaker skill upon mastery. One of the best abilities in the whole game. Unfortunately only males learn it. Combine it with Vantage and you have not a man, but a death machine that slaughters all in his path. I put them on Byleth and he was basically unkillable, even during Maddening mode. Yeah, it's both player and enemy phase. I would know. It's another one that fools you because it's a magic class but it benefits fast weapon users most.
Falcon Knight is the best. I hate that it's sex restricted. It's the greatest.
Wyvern Lord is also the greatest. My only wish is that there with another version with Lancefaire.
Great Knight is not great. The only advantage over Fortress Knight is the movement, which is admittedly nice, but Weight -5 is just way too good to give up.
Holy Knight makes me sad. Get rid of Terrain Resist for White Magic x 2 or Heal +10. Hell, get rid of White Tomefaire too. There are like 4 white magic attacks in the game and they're all ass. It should've just been a healing based class.
Mortal Savant is... different. A sword user is better off using Swordmaster, Hero, or Assassin, a magic user is better off using Warlock or Gremory. And it doesn't get Dark Tomefaire for some reason. Why does it only have 2 abilities? For a Master Class... I'm annoyed because I like the idea of a mixed Sword/Magic user.
War Master is good. Good movement, great abilities, great mastery skill. Yeah, just suffers from competition with Grappler and Wyvern Lord.
Trickster... never really found a use for it besides getting some early stat ups for the mages. Yuri's the only one who can use Foul Play properly because of his relic. The 6 move is nice tho.
War Monk is another one that it hilarious but is not too useful. I guess if you wanted a female unit with Fistfaire...
Dark Flier is good. Only flying magic user. Good movement, good skills, but it suffers from that 3 skill slot limitation. Would've loved Black Magic uses x 2.
Dark Valkyrie is basically just an easier to get Dark Knight for women only without the tomefaires. Not awful, but you'll probably just dump it for Dark Knight.

War Monk/Cleric is a great Class to stay in if you're a female unit, since there's no other option for them in a Brawling Class

I'd argue that Priest should be considered for some magic units. For example, if you take Blue Lions with their "canon" classes, you've got Annette and Mercedes. In my experience, you get Fiendish Blow in the mid-teens, so you've got 4-6 levels before you can go Advanced. In this time, you CAN keep the two girls in mage, or you can reclass Mercedes into Priest for a bit. This helps to put up her healing utility, which is her main function. This can make a difference in a pinch, and she's not getting much from staying in mage.
Certainly not the biggest issue, but the class can be useful for a couple months once Fiendish Blow has been acquired, until you hit level 20.

Pretty sure the brawler class can move through forest tiles unimpeded and has a additional speed growth, which the brigand doesn't have. It can be good to use if you've already mastered brigand but are not high enough level to promote to a higher tier class yet.

Mortal Savant was a sick class with an awesome concept, but unfortunately, you are right. The only character I've really managed to optimize with it is Felix, who only learns Thunder and Thoron. 😭
Dorothea can use it, but it's not worth it. You should just make her a Warlock or Gremory because w/o Levin Sword, she is not doing a sliver of damage.
As for Great Knight, I also agree, and the only real viable character to use it on is Gilbert to me. It's not worth getting at all for Ferdinand and Silvain imo. The stat drops are crazy and it also has less movement, the only one who it really benefits is Gilbert.
In any case, that's my honest opinion. Otherwise, really good tier list. If anyone wants to agree or disagree with me, feel free.

I feel like brawler is a good stepping stone for certain units after mastering brigand, characters like dedue and Raphael really benefit from the added speed growth, and it should be easy to get to because they should be using gauntlets to begin with. It’s not worth mastering, but if you have some time after you master brigand, you should send certain units into it until they reach level 20.

    This....
Is a poorly thought out list.
The tiers tell you nothing about how useful the classes are outside of a pair of binaries. "Are they usable or not" and "do they give a useful skill".
Which leads to a scenario where all the master classes are either tier one or shit tier. Which should never be the case.
Wyvern Lord should probably be in its own tier. The notion that Dark Knight is anywhere near Gremory is kind of absurd considering the latter's absolute superiority.
An actual tier division would probably be something like:
    1) Wyvern Lord, Mage, Pegasus Knight, Brigand. Either the best class in the game, or possessing skills that you'll go out of your way to get, even on units who don't intend to use the weapon or movement type. One will, on occasion, consider the possibility of taking units who are weak with axes-
    Like, say, Bernadetta-
And wonder if it's not just a better idea to turn them into Wyvern lords.
Like, you could get darting blow and death blow, super focus on axes, get to C+ in lances for vengeance. Smash and Vengeance for combat arts, the blows with Axe and Lance prowess, with a smattering of Defiant Crit, she'd kill everything.
But so would basically anyone else.
    2) Falcon Knight, Bow Knight, War Master, Gremory, Dancer, Warrior, Paladin, Bishop, Grappler, Archer, Monk, Fighter, Soldier. Classes that are worth focusing on or lead directly to superior classes. You should be able to go from the beginning of the game to the end using only classes in these two tiers, and will generally be rewarded for doing so.
All female mages have no reason not to go Gremory. Linhardt really just ends up being best as a bishop, and Hubert is a pain to deal with.
    Dancers are just useful.
The best class progression in the game is generally Fighter/Soldier into Pegasus Knight/Brigand, the other of the two if female, Warrior until level thirty once you get the blow abilities, and Wyvern Lord. Or stay in Pegasus Knight until they can turn into a Falcoknight.
Fighter into brigand into Grappler into War Master just throws all the good things in the world onto one pile and says, damage. You have it. Add to that the fact Quick Riposte has the additional effect of making it so that enemies don't double you when they're faster and you've got some amazing nonsense for men who can't ride pegasii.
The fact that Bow Knight isn't universally powerful, and is really only prominent in the hands of two characters(Leonie/Bernadetta) would normally make me put it in tier three, but Point Blank Volley and Vengeance/Encloser are so solid and intrinsically worth going for that I have to put it here. Brigand/Pegasus Knight would be Leonie's ideal intermediary classes with Paladin when they're mastered, and Archer-Paladin for Bernie, throwing in Brigand if possible.
That is the only reason why Archer and Paladin are in this tier. Deadeye isn't going to aim itself. Even now I have my doubts about both, because Archer's really only there for Deadeye which is very much so non-essential. Bernie's one of the few units that massively rewards you for putting a ton of effort into over-developing her skills.
The only characters that aren't at home in these classes would probably be....
Lorenz/Hubert/Hanneman, who keep Dark Knight out of tier four. And Catherine, I guess. Shamir is also such a pain to get out sniper, and a mediocre unit even with hunter's volley, that she's usually better off as a sniper.
    3) Dark Knight, Wyvern Rider, Dark Bishop, Warlock, Sniper, Assassin, Swordmaster, Hero, Priest, Dark Mage, Brawler, Cavalier, Thief, Mercenary, Lord, Myrmidon. Usable but suboptimal or gimmicky. There really aren't any good sword options that are really worth going for long term. There are perhaps three units in the entire game, four including DLC, who are worth considering swords for, and all can be made just as(if not more) useful in other roles.
    4) Holy Knight, Great Knight, Mortal Savant, Fortress Knight, Armored Knight. There are no real scenarios where these classes are good ideas, requiring far more dedication to achieve an inferior result than other classes. The only faith based unit in the game that can't just become a Gremory is better off just staying a Bishop, swords are suboptimal at the best of times and are only made worse by trying to gish, and armored units are absolutely horrible in this game because they possess horrible movement capabilities and no ranged capabilities, only made worse by absolutely abysmal growth rates.
The four DLC classes would fit mostly into tier three, though War Monk is arguably tier four as it's also a gish attempt, and Valkyrie is arguably tier two for the sole fact that it gives you extra magic range. As much as I do adore the dark flier, it's not really worth the amount of extra effort required, and while it's not bad, your fliers are usually better off staying as fliers and your mages are usually better off staying as mages.

    • @MalevolentDivinity
      @MalevolentDivinity 4 года назад

@@deemac3470 Sniper legitimately only has one saving grace from what I've found, that being hunter's volley.
Which is the best class mastery combat art, sure, but that's like being the tallest dwarf. Not a large accomplishment. Generally speaking, you only leave a unit in sniper if they've got problems and need to rely on hunter's volley as a crutch.
Which is to say units you should probably avoid using.
The actual good archers, namely Leonie and Bernadetta, are 100% Paladin into bow knight gals. Leonie's already really fast/has access to darting blow and defiant speed, and thus could really care less about a guaranteed double, and Bernie's primarily just going to be using vengeance on everything while using her bows as either a baiting or chipping tool.
Mind, that list was slapped together rather hastily and thus in no way perfect, but I still see no reason to ever bother with making a unit a sniper.

    • @AkameGaKillfan777
      @AkameGaKillfan777 4 года назад

@@MalevolentDivinity You said it's a poorly thought out list, when it's only their opinion. Plenty of people disagree with you about Sniper. They go through the classic specifically BECAUSE they want Hunter's Volley. You said it yourself: it's the best Class Mastery Combat Art in the game, being able to one-round an enemy from up to 4 spaces away. And Shamir gets TONS of praise because of her high dex, meaning she has decent crit based off the stat alone. Ignatz has an extra Hit +20 built in as his personal, which stacks with the Archer Class Mastery and is really helpful on Maddening where Bows have an even bigger hit penalty from 3+ spaces away.
Speaking of which, are you talking about Maddening? Because most people do prefer Sniper over Bow Knight, since the latter can't reliably one-round enemies, except occasionally with Brave Bows, but a build that only works with one weapon isn't going to be very helpful in the long-run, and Brave Weapons are finite because unlike Gauntlets, you only get limited ore to forge and repair them with past the few you get at the Armory and Renown Statue. You're barely able to quad enemies except for Armored Classes most of the time, which obviously won't go down nearly as much unless you have effective weapons like Hammers, or use magic. Bow Knights mediocre stats aren't a problem on Normal or Hard if you want to beat enemies from a distance then retreat, but enemies with lower defense are too speedy for Bow Knights to double, especially since they're slower than Snipers, and you'll often need at least one crit to win, which Hunter's Volley provides.
There's plenty of reasons why Sniper is better than Bow Knight, and this isn't a poorly thought out list just because someone agrees with you. I've personally made a couple of magic dodge tanks with Dark Fliers, so I personally enjoy using it.

I literally just finished a NG Golden Deer maddening run, and got ignatz to Master it, ended up as a sniper, and was really good. He has low strength, so wants death blow, and has hit +20 as a personal, so doesn't NEED Archer, and has a boon for swords, and as a sniper, really you only want to focus on bows, and authority (which is also a boon) to be, he can afford to Master it. With hunter's volley, at worst its 16 damage, but usually he has obscene crit, so it turned him into one of my better units, honestly was more useful than even Claude. He's the only one I can think of who'd really want it though. Maybe Felix if you plan to have him end as a War Master, idk though. Also Wyvern Rider gets Seal Defense, super trash. Finally, for Great Knight, if you already have the Axe and armor rank, you can try for certification at D+ riding, C will get you better than 50% chance to pass, and its 3 more movement, id definitely say its worth it.

You are right. Poison Strike sucks in NG. But is amazing in NG+. The extra chip damage early/against monsters is very valuable on the likes of Ignatz and other chippers like Linhardt or Felix. But indeed not worth planning to in clean NG.
Priest should be a stepping stone. Not for the skill or faith magic. But heal +5 can work really well, especially on the healers you get in your house like Lin, Merc and Mari. That 5 HP can save lives.
Warlock is a master an move on class. Especially now since the DLC is out. Units like Marianne or Dorothea could benefit a lot from bowbreaker, and so can male mages like Lorenz and Hubert. You don't want to be 4 mov locked, yet Bishop is worth it because of its preset skills. Ultimately Dark Knight/Gremory/Dark Flier/Valkyrie/Bishop are the best end game magic classes.
Mortal Savant is decent on a Black Mage with a proficiency in sword. I have used it on Marianne with high success since I find her the least useful of the healers in terms of utility but rather in pressure with her crest and spell list. Felix is also decent with it because his crest of Fraldarius and Toron crits. Marianne uses this class in an amazing way but sadly speed is an issue there, and Felix needs to up his magic rank to S to get something useful after learning his spells. So indeed don't waste your time unless you're Marianne.
Warmaster is def endgame ready. You have + 20 crit and an OP ability that is effective against all enemies plus Axe/Fisrfaire. Need to own in playerphase? No issue, use gauntulets. Wanna wreck enemy phase? No problem! Hand axe + quick reposte! Grappler ignores terrain restrictions but sadly has crit + 10 over +20. That's the only issue.

I think Brawler is a little better now (I think it could be considered a stepping stone) with the new war monk/cleric class out. For characters that want to go with fists without having to spend time raising axe level, Brawler is a decent option for growths and quicker fist proficiency up. Reasons to go with war monk/cleric instead of war master are threefold: 1.) Females can access it. 2.) You can get heals and possibly other faith magic. Even characters with crappy magic can end up with some additional utility or a way to cheese exp on Maddening during off turns where they can't do anything else. 3.) Brawl Avoid +20 is a really good skill, especially for characters with high speed/avoid. Although Ferdinand doesn't have advantageous growths in fists, for example, he's a great user of them with brawl avoid+20 due to his personal skill and high speed. The other meme dodge build for Ferdinand entails making him a dancer for sword avoid+20, which is a bit more restrictive imo, and fists have the advantage of even less weight. Stacking all that avoid works really well on Ferdinand, even on Maddening.

The big thing that harms brawler, however, is its mastered ability. Unarmed Combat is highly situational and you will almost never use it. Going brigand, meanwhile, gets you the wonderful Deathblow, and most fist characters will get into brigand easily. Taking brawler sacrifices a nice boost to strength in order to give them dex (the least efficient stat point for point) and speed (on a class that is already using fast weapons with the brave quality anyway). Also, brawler gets a negative magic growth while brigand does not, and everyone who would want to end in War Monk are already stunted in the magic category (except Balthus).

    • @ViveLeEmpereur
      @ViveLeEmpereur 4 года назад +1

@@Adamantium93 Those are great points! I agree that mastering Brawler is totally worthless. Unarmed combat isn't useful at all. The main benefit from using Brawler as a stepping stone would be the bonuses to increasing fist proficiency without the opportunity cost of needing to focus on axes. It's a definite trade off. Do you want death blow or do you want to focus on a different skillset? From my standpoint, death blow is amazing but you can easily take a set of 5 other useful skills without it, and benefit from not having to take the time to study axes. Faith can be more useful as a secondary focus to study, because it allows a character to equip all fist skills while still having some utility. I rarely have characters use more than one weapon type, unless the second weapon type is a bow. Another thing to consider is that for Brigand you need to get the axe mastery fairly early, while you have a long time to get the faith up for war monk/cleric, and can focus more on fists up to that point. As for the stats, speed is very useful for fist users either for 4xing or (more common on Maddening) for not getting doubled. And in the late game, a super dodgy unit like Petra, Leonie, Ingrid or Ferdinand cherishes speed for the chance at sapping enemy hit rate to 0. I agree that dex is mostly shit though.
The thing with the war monk/cleric class is that there are two different ways you can look at it. 1.) You can look at it as mainly a physical class with the bonus of spongeable free exp and utility (occasional heals/wards/restores/rescues/whatever) on off turns. 2.) Or you can look at it as a full on magical fist class, which requires a lot more effort (aura knuckles, focus on faith first and fists second until you get the aura knuckles, etc.). I look at it mostly as the former. I feel like Maddening is too hard to try a focus on magic with this class. Basically, I treat the class mainly as a physical class, but with some extra added utility with heals and some free exp. Characters who learn Ward like Ferdinand and Manuela and who are speedy or have sorta hybrid stats can benefit especially. On Maddening outside of actually using certain faith skills for their main benefit, you can also cheese exp with faith skills without needing to slow down. For example, you might have one of your characters take down an enemy, and then have another use Ward. Two characters are then getting exp instead of one. Or maybe you're in a position where you want the war monk/cleric to tank a hit, but you're not in range to attack an actual enemy. So in that circumstance, you can have them move into enemy attack range, but have somebody move next to that position first, and have the war monk ward or heal their ally. You're still taking the same number of turns, but you're getting much more exp. You can also do the same if an ally leveled up 1 point in HP. Heal them for some free exp, but give the exp of defeating enemies to someone else. On non-boss rush rout the enemy maps, sometimes there are turns where you're just moving and have nothing to do, but a character who can use magic could pop off a small heal or ward, rescue (if you don't need it) or some other utility whether you actually need it or not for some free exp.
The fact that the heals are weak or characters might end up with poor magic when going into the class doesn't bother me that much. Even a weak heal can be helpful if you're not depending on it as the only healer on your team, but as an additional supplement. There are even some characters who learn recover, and even with a crappy magic stat can heal a lot. And Brawl Avoid +20 is just amazing. I just finished the Edelgard paralogue and Ferdinand with brawl avoid+20, and an avoid+ battalion (the petra paralogue one) was able to hide in some woods and take on about 40 enemies at once, all with 0 hit rate.

_Paladin Byleth was very versatile for me on Maddening. Solid class with reliable defenses, with two easy-to-aquire ranks in Lance and Riding. Access to all effective weaponry and combat arts, high movement, can equip any battalion while also preparing you for mastery classes. SCS has 1-2 range, by the way. Maybe it's because I'm biased towards Knight Lord's, but I digress._

Objection: Great Knight is the best class ever. I made Flayn a Fortress Knight -> Great Knight and gave her all the defense boosters I can find and the Aegis Shield. Then she basically soloed maddening with her insane def and res, taking 0 from all physical enemies and less than 10 from bosses. I didn't even need to plant defense boosters for her.

Honestly I don't find Falcoknight all that good in practice. Like, in a vaccum it's obviously pretty damn amazing, but every Falco you have could be a Wyvern Lord instead and there's not a whole lot of reasons to go Falco when you probably already invested in Axes for Brigand (or even for Wyvern Rider so you're not stuck at 6 Mov till Lv30) anyways
Now, if Ferdinand/Sylvain/Seteth had access to it and could fire off flying Lancefaire Swift Strikes, that'd be a different story, but alas. #GiveShamirSwiftStrikes2k20 I guess.
(Also, fun build to try out for anyone reading this: Warlock Constance. 4 BTomefaire Boltings per map, with pretty decent odds of getting a fifth or even sixth use out of it thanks to her crest)
