I found a 5950x at the local e recycling center with pins like that. I got a head lamp magnifier from Harbor Freight and an x acto knife and spent maybe 90 minutes slowly bending them back and now I have a 5950x rig. It was tedious, and it's way more CPU than I need, but also pretty satisfying.
Good work my friend. You must have been excited when it booted up the first time. My Son just got lucky recently as well, He ordered a 5800x CPU and he received a Ryzen 9 5900x. I am happy for him and you as well! Cheers.
That will work but you can also use an old mechanical lead pencil. The tip will fit over most pins and they make them with both thin and moderate lead diameters.
15yrs ago when you could fit a credit card between the rows of pins it was a great way to fix CPU's. We're talking AMD S939/940 socket CPU's. Even without proper scale it only makes sense that a credit card cannot work on newer/high pin count cpus.
Acutally on the old CPU's you could use a credit cad, but anything pass socket 370 you started getting into smaller spaces as they kept on increasing the pin count. I should know, I used to use a CCTV to fix them and I did use a plastic card .
I had one that a customer destoyed in a fit of rage .. ripped out of the board with the heatsink still attached lots of bent pins .. I took a razor blade and using my phone camera to get a look at the pins I was able to get them straight enough in just under 3 hours . put it in a motherboard .. it took a bit of force .. but it worked
I almost bent pins on my Ryzen. The thermal paste had acted more like epoxy after 3+ years. The whole CPU pulled out of the motherboard with a cooler still attached. How I didn't bend or break any pins is a miracle! I had to remove the CPU from the cooler with a heat gun and pry knife. I guess a lot of people have this problem with Ryzen. I never had this problem with Intel.
yes bro the same thing happened with but my 1 pin was bent i fixed it though but still this happens to me many times whenever i pull my cooler the cpu itself comes out sticking with it 1st time it happened with me on 2023 July luckily no pins were bent i thought it was motherboard problem but this happened again with me on 6th of the july 2024 and 1 of the pin was bent this time i have Ryzen 5 3600 and MSI B450 Tomahawk Max motherboard
@@YashTheDon intel had that problem while on socket 478 fix is easy use computer a bit then remove that will heat cpu and thermal paste relase easily from cooler fan
My dear friend Alex, one of my friends sent me cpu some pins are crooked in many places. I thought of your method and suddenly it came to my mind to use anything pins be fitted in and strong. So I brought two sizes of medical syringe heads, the size of which is the same size and is better than the old method and shortens the time in the process of straightening pins. It is 1.21 mm , wish you use it and share your work soon, Plzzzzzz like it to see Alex 🥹
Actually you cant bent the pins if you leave it in the plastic protector which came with the packaging or leave it IN the socket.. Also shorten the moving actions to have the cpu near the socket before installing.
1969 credit cards required the cashier to search a well-worn booklet to verify that the card hadn't been reported as deadbeat or stolen (and sometimes they also had to make a call), then try to carbon a receipt with a well-worn sliding device. All in all, a bit worse than the idiot that takes their checkbook out of their pocket/purse only after everything is rung up and bagged. Right after Carterphone decision we started designing modems, one use of was to automate credit card approvals.
He is lucky the bented pins group where at the corner , Not scattered around that means he forgot to check if it was oriented correctly where the triangle is.
awesome video thank you for sharing. My co worker grabs a mechanical pencil, makes sure there is no lead in it and puts the tip of the pencil over the pins and pulls them straight with that, then uses razor blade, words good depending on the pins

what about the new am5 socket? is there a way to replace a AM5 socket with bent pins? they re much smaller and apparently many more pins than in the am4 cpus.
Is it thermal paste between the pins? Look at that grey stuff. I can't even imagine what people are doing to their hardware. May be u better ask some1 who knows what to do. 🙄🤔
Nice job as usual. No way a credit card would work for this - Toio large and too thick to do a good job. Only good way is your way - Maybe doesn't need a razor blade specifically but certainly a small, thin metal blade.
Why not just buy a new cpu? The time to send it in, the loss of time for repair, and the risk is it really worth saving maybe $50 plus at most? That is a low end cpu.
We used to use credit cards all the time. The difference was that the pin density was not so high so the card actually slid perfectly between the rows. It doesn't work any more because the rows are much narrower now.

Use a medical needle for injections, you can get them on top over the pins and then straighten them perfect.
I straightened out the pins on a Ryzen 2700 using a old blade from a Stanley knife

@@85rx7se been doing this since P4 days, also my time in service

i guess the best way to avoid this is to get a thermal sheet or unlock the cpu clip before pulling the cooler if possible
Same here but without damaging my cpu😂😂😂

I use a small exacto blade. not quite as fancy as alexes scalpel, but it does the job.
The customer: "CPU with bent pins"
Also video watchers: "sloppy user"

Hypodermic needle does perfect job too.
Mechanical pencil works great to fix the bent pins.
U made it seems a easy job. Well done👏🏻👏🏻

y u make look so easy... if i tried that it WOULD of had broken pins afterwards :)
Nice surgery. The patient is cleared to leave the hospital right after leaving the operating room.
only very expensive operation.
Good grief! How on earth do people take such horrible care of expensive hardware?! Nice surgery!
Brother i havent been getting recommend your videos even tho i follow you... I forgot all about you lol
A hammer is not the right tool for placing a CPU.
I fixed a road side found CPU that was stepped on! It had 80% of pins bent with half of them laid flat.
Imagine that.
I worked 2 days on it.
what about the new am5 socket? is there a way to replace a AM5 socket with bent pins? they re much smaller and apparently many more pins than in the am4 cpus.
Are they playing frisbee with the processor?
Amazes me how many can't hold the most precious part.
I've done this multiple times, probably not this many pins but the same solution
Is it thermal paste between the pins? Look at that grey stuff. I can't even imagine what people are doing to their hardware. May be u better ask some1 who knows what to do. 🙄🤔
A regular needle and a carpet blade is needed for this kind of job..
what i want to know is what did he do to bend them pins? And he got very luck
6:10 is the repair side lol
Does big Boss straighten pins as well?
No only opens and closes.
The credit card method created that wheel.
The customer used thermal paste under the CPU...
the credit card method works on old cpus not the new ones
The last cou i had bent pins was a 478 P4,
1958 bank of America credit card first in us.
how do you even do that? they're bent in different directions lol
Awesome
Nerve racking
and the short is gone! amazing😂
A mechanical pencil also works for this.

I see 28 not strait (bend) pins.
I have done it with tweezer
0.5mm mechanical pencil is way better for straightening pins.
Dude seriously couldn’t just do this himself?
He makes it look easy with all the nice equipment and experience, but it ain't
. . . Ciustomer with six cylinders under hood had put old mowers to scrap car.
Word of warming - You don't install CPU when your DRUNK!!!
Use the credit card, in the sense to pay someone else to do the job 😂😂😂😂
You are the man fixing electronics. I just like what you and your team do..
HOW???

Ya even an everyday box cutter razor blade is better than any card.🥹But also the customer got thermal paste all in the pins.
Nobody use credit card to do that :/ there are too many smart guys out there doing that with other tools
