If you are thinking of buying a digital recorder of are interested in knowing more about the Voice Tracer then you should watch this video. The Voice Tracer was provided to me to do the unboxing and review however I have remained honest and impartial in my review. Unfortunately I wanted to try recording live music and other interesting things but because of the Corona virus everyone is grounded and I had to make do with what was available around my house.

I have a Philips DVT5000 that served me extremely well, but its had it’s fair share of use and abuse so I am looking at a replacement. Looked at the Zoom H1N, but it is underwhelming. Then I looked at the DVT6110 and it looked impressive. After seeing your video my mind was made up, I placed an order for my new DVT6110. Can’t wait!!!

Comprehensive review thanks for doing that. I've been unable to find this particular model in Australian retailers however there is a DVT4110 which in principle is missing the PCM96kHz 24bit recording sample and the "video" audio scene. for my purpose I can live with that and about 30% less on the ticket price. In any case great review. Thanks.

@@guitar-academy Discovered the model is available here in Aus as DVT6110, the only difference I can make out is the higher quality sound recording and the additional audio scene in library which no doubt makes use of the higher quality recording codec. Again thanks for great review I'm off to buy one tomorrow.

Hello and thank you for the excellent review. I have just a basic question... Can the recording level (I think they call it "mic sensitivity") be adjusted while recording is in progress? Can it be adjusted remotely via the Voice Tracer app, respectively? Thanks 👍
Thank you . . Very good question. As far as I know no it can't, but they might update the firmware or App in the future.

I love how clear your voice sounds here on this video. I have a Sony TCDD7 Dat machine and am looking for something newer? Meaning transferring stuff being easier? My feeling is this is. Even though I love my DAT. Thank you for your review, very helpful. Ps do you think I can do binaural recordings?
Thank you . . It doesn't have a specific binaural setting, but if you a generating the sound it can record it, or you can do it post production in whatever software you use. 😊😃

firstly I can tell you that without the backlight on you can't see anything, the screen is more or less black. unfortunately I have to prioritize videos on popularity and unfortunately this video hasn't been too popular so it's at the back of the queue, but if I get time I will make another video . .
The Voice Tracer looks incredible durable compared to the other product, and as you mentioned the voice teacher has a high degree of treble! But the speaker configuration appears to be spot on just in need of some fine tuning! In the zoom mode it’s rather impressive to say the least.

Yes agreed, if it had a bit more bass and the zoom picked up less surrounding sound it be pretty much perfect, but because of mobile phones, I think year on year small microphone technology is improving rapidly. . .
it's a plastic gizmo (and not water tight), it's not that durable by definiiton. well, if you get one for 10€ (my case) it's ok :-)

Very helpful video. One quick question though, what is the boot time like? (can we record by merely pressing the record button) if not, is it fast enough to power on and record in a jiff?
Yes, it does boot up really quickly . . it's also got a voice detect mode that starts recording automatically, but I haven't tested that feature . .

Hi I don't see a lot of comparison of Zoom H1n and Voice Tracer DVT6110. Could you give me some recommendations? Would love to hear your opinion :)
Good question I can only give you my thoughts, and since I made this video they have made a lot of improvements to the Zoom . . The fist thing is the fact the Sony is rechargeable and the zoom takes batteries. But you could always put rechargeable batteries in the zoom if you want. The zoom is a really good price and the quality for the price is outstanding, I think I personally prefer the zoom, but the Philips is still good. 😊
Hi 👋🏻. Thinking about buying something like this. I drive trucks in the U.K. so it can be loud in the cab. I just need something to record my notes while I listen to podcasts and audiobooks. Just wondering if I can name the files to the name of the audiobooks I listen to? Great video thanks 🙏🏻

I have a DVT41..something. The thing is, when I connect it to my desktop, I can see audio files I have recorded in MP3 format under Voices and A,B,C,D, Music. But when I go to the actual recorder, BCD are all blank. It says folder contains no files! please elaborate. Thank you
I wish I could . . I'm just a guy who reviewed what was in front of me, you'd have to contact Philips for an explanation of that. I've noticed the same thing on this recorder . . 🤔
I use this to record my karaoke recording on my jbl partyboy 710. I plug it in with an aux cable and it works pretty well record's good enough the music and the singing.
I'd never thought about karaoke, that's a great use for a pocket recorder 😊😃

After this great review, i decided to buy this recorder. I'm not an expert about audio but i feel like my voice tone is too high, not enough bass, and i don't feel the same when you record your voice. Also i feel this Phillips is too sensitive, even when I pronounce carefully , my plosives still make the recorder saturate. As you mentioned you own several digital recorders, do you think the same as me, is it this recorder in particular or it's more or less the same with other brands? Thanks in advance.

This recorder sits in the middle ground quality wise. It has more bass than the Zoom H1n and about the same as the Zoom H2n but less than the Zoom H4n. On all these units the inbuilt speakers aren't that good so you can only really hear the quality of the recordings using better speakers. You can improve the sound quality using editing software, but none of the mobile solutions I have tried beats a studio mic (even a cheap one).
Let me know if you find a really good mobile recorder without braking the bank 😊

I hesitated to buy a sony ux570 or a tx660 but if you tell me that all have more or less the same audio quality, maybe i should just keep this one and try to improve the audio quality using editing software, just as you suggested. People that upload videos with these recorders probably edited their audio files and that's why i think they are better than this one 🙂
@@alexmonastier1872 Yes, if you use the highest quality and tidy the recording up with software you can get really good results. I use mine with a parabolic mic now for recording nature sounds when I use a telephoto lens on my camera, it works really well and it's small and takes some knocking about. 😊

that's an impossible question to answer because it depends on so many factors, like how big is the room or hall, what are the acoustics of the room like, how loud do they speak and what is the background noise like.

Yes, it does. But you can't label them or anything like that. 🤔

They say up to 36 hours but I haven't left it on for that long to see. I honestly don't think that long. . .
Hello, I’m blind so exuse me if this question is asked already. Is the app also for ios? And are all features and settings accessable via the app? I just want to set it up occassionally but it’s mainly for recording phonecalls and soundscapes. If the app is for ios, I should be able to use the philips.

Dude i bought one of these but theres too much hissing noise how do you prevent that and just record the audio only?
Mine doesn't hiss so maybe it's a faulty one or I record at the highest quality WAV format, try that if you haven't already 🤔

Would it be worth to consider to buy newer models like DVT7110 or DVT8110? What are the main advanteges of the newer models in comparison with DVT6110?
The obvious difference between the 6110 and the 7100/8110 is the 360 degree recording ability for meetings. I haven't tested the newer units so I'm afraid I can't say anything else. 🤔

@@merkothebestoneThe Zooms shown in this video are old devices now so you need to look at the new ones. The Zoom H2n is a good device for all sorts of recording uses 😊

I have a Phillips 4110, and I was watching your video because I can’t find how you use the voice activated on YT, for it. I have it set everything looks good, but it’s not working. I am not sure what I’m doing wrong? Do you know how it works on yours here? Maybe they are the same?

hello, i'm really new to dictaphones, and have found this device quite confusing. I've managed to record over the beginning of 2 interviews that i've recorded on the Philips VoiceTracer, do you know if i can return to the original recording? No worries, if you don't know. Thanks Vickie
That's strange . . usually it attaches the next file to the first file. Check the file from the beginning on a computer, it might still be there at the beginning of the one file . .
with the philips voicetracer - there is software to transcribe speech to text. does zoomh1 come with something similar?
Sadly the Philips software doesn't actually come with it as it is cloud based, so you use it through a browser. The Zoom has no option like this, but there are lots of cloud or app solutions for this job. You'd probably be wise looking for reviews of voice to text software to get the best solution at the right price. Sorry, I have no idea which solution is best. 🤔
I've just got mine. It's an DVT 7110. Please can you tell me what it may mean if my screen doesn't open although I've been charging it for an hour? It makes sounds and the file on my computer opens but no activity on the screen.
To me that sounds like a fault, on mine the screen opens as soon as the power goes on or as soon as I plug it in to the computer 🤔

Press the middle button of the 3 top buttons twice. 1 press is for capitals and 2 presses for numbers. 😊😀

No not through the USB. The USB function is just for copying files to your computer. You can use the jack socket to a microphone socket on something, but that's really not it's main function.
Can this be used to record calls for a podcast or should I get something better?
It would do it, but it's not specialized for that job. It depends really on how professionally you want to project yourself . .

What is the battery life like?
I haven't had it long enough for a thorough test, but during all my tests (I left it outside for ages to record the birds) the battery level didn't move. I might have to do an update video when I can tell you more accurately, or at least revisit your question. 😊

I think is was designed for dictation, but they are trying to make it more versatile. I use it to gather sound effects for soundtracks and music. . .

@@ddrci88 It's very difficult to compare like for like because of the features. I personally like Zoom, the Zoom H2n is about the same price and whilst it has better sound facilities it doesn't have any of the remote recording or connectivity facilities that the Philips has. Maybe this is the subject for another video . . 🙂
