Stop making this deadly mistake ruclips.net/video/aS5uGl2Ec9E/видео.html
thanks for the video i was just asking you questions about this
that is the way to accellerate!.
Agree stop making deadly mistakes listening to motojitsu, he will kill you, go do a track day camera on your hand using this method the whole time let's see what happens? You only show a non driving video I wonder why
@paolophoenix no it's not its terrible, a year since your comment you still alive?
I was told to hold the throttle like I would with a screwdrivers by my instructor to avoid crazy wrist angles. Seems to intuitively work.
That’s how they teach throttle grip at Motor School. Primarily because that position ensures the throttle closes completely during emergency braking and secondarily it helps with throttle control at tight and low speed maneuvering.
The "screwdriver" grip also helps with body position in RH turns.
Nice
i do the same
Exactly 💯
Timely advice for me. I’ve been doing it wrong for a long time. The wrist is painful. Was developing the inch worm technique because of shear pain but know I see more clearly what I should do. Thank you
Learn to relax, and not tense. The rule is to always remember that.
The wrist is painful but it saved you from crashing and risking your life
MC Rider would be in total disagreement with these techniques and would feel they are unsafe due to the risk of whiskey throttle or unintended rapid throttle cut.
That’s what I thought too
Having just passed my MSF yesterday, I can speak from experience and saying that having a neutral wrist caused whiskey throttle more than using the pads of my fingers or the ice cream grip. I didn't wheelie, but I did have a moment where I sent myself straight towards a fence, all due to a neutral wrist
Short and crisp, as always.
Another snort of MotoJitsu and a rush of blood in my head.
There are times when understanding the information you shared is more exciting than riding my motorcycle.
Weird flex
Always giving sensible advice, thanks for doing what you do! 🤙🏼
Hey Fast Eddie man! I just simply place hand on the throttle, with 2-4 fingers being able to pull the front brake. Using the padding of my gloves to get the grip and I pull back on the throttle and my fingertips are basically resting on top of the front brake lever. This way when I have to grab my front brake, I just roll off the throttle and my fingers naturally wrap the front brake lever allowing me to pull in the front brake lever. I learned that from you by the way Greg. From one of your older videos.
Ride safe everyone.
yep, same here!
feels the best for me.
greetings from germany!
Absolutely. Same here. Greetings from Nigeria.
Greetings from the United States of America.
Which video was that?
@@User84367 - I don't quite remember exactly which video it was but it was an older video that Greg had created.
thats how I spot newbies, ride safe god bless
Attention to detail makes a good rider... Thanks a lot mate
Had this problem on my 2021 superduke, changed the throttle for a quick turn throttle and is now perfect for trail braking.
I learned that on my own but its a good observation. It helps a lot to have proper hand positioning during turns.
You're very thorough with your explanations aided by visuals. Thank you!
I needed this so much , have recently taken up riding and pain in various body parts is beginning to show up
dude, thank you for that. I went from an 800cc tiger to a 300cc Honda XRE and realized I never went full throthle on the previous bike. With the new one I was running out of wrist on the highway. Gonna give these a try.
I’ve been using a Throttle Boss for as long I as I can remember. They eliminate wrist fatigue and only cost a couple bucks. I don’t even grip the throttle anymore, I just let the weight of my arm push the Throttle Boss down.
Thanks for this. As a very new rider this really made a world of difference.
I watch your videos religiously man you’ve saved me big time. On my bike there’s alot of play between no throttle and throttle these tips definitely help I use the thumb trick at slower speeds lol otherwise I’d be cutting in and out.
You should be able to adjust your throttle cable so it starts on the throttle sooner I did that with mine and it helped a lot.
@@jayhips625 thanks I appreciate that it’s my first sport bike I didn’t know if they were all like that or not.
Thanks for the great content!
I learnt this with experience and now seeing him illustrate the same makes me feel proud of myself
The MT07 does have a big turn to get to full throttle, I installed an R6 throttle tube on my MT07 and it makes getting to full throttle much easier.
Must have mod for every mt-07 owner! Makes such a nice difference.
I use a 125% quick turn throttle tube from a Honda Monkey on my CB300R. It makes a big difference on a 286cc motorcycle.
Man, you can get a quarter turn twist throttle !
do u have a link to buy one of these?
Another great trip.
Thanks once more
Thanks for sharing. I do this and thought I was cheating creeping my hand back. Thank you for confirmation, hardly ever mentioned.
Accidentally i don't stick with accelerator like you said it only hurt my hands then i did role my hands over accelerator with my bare hand grip then i thought it pretty weird to do like that and you showed me i was right. Thank you
Good info. I do it instinctively. (Inch worm.) Love this channel!!!! Headed over to buy some swag!
Wrist worm is kind of dangerous tbh. Sometimes you might lose the grip and completely chop the throttle which might make your bike hard to control. I usually use my middle two fingers and thumb to always be in grip with the throttle and then I use my pointing finger to use the front brake. works good enough for me. A lot of new riders completely just dump their throttles in stress situations so its a habit to learn. Also, its much smoother riding experience on your body if you practice your roll offs properly
yup, i have grip puppies on my grips. my hand and wrist are slightly forward so my fingers reach the break lever, and as i twist the throttle my wrist is in a comfortable position, and like you said the point where the fingers and palm holds the throttle to adjust more or less, nothing worse than getting numb hand or fingers.
SUPER HELPFUL
Depends on what I am doing, for me. If at the dragstrip, I hamfist it to get full throttle and a good hold on the bars for a hard launch. If canyon carving, I hold only my fingertips on the throttle to make is easier to hold a good, solid, and smooth throttle. No need to cover front brakes, in the corners, as it will stand the bike up and not corner, if used. Drag the rear and "back it in" if need to slow a little. This has always worked for me.
Loose grip in corner at speed better not hit a bump you will crash doing this bs technique. Stop listening to internet guys you have no idea their skill level or bona fides. Take a true racing course from pros
@@rt2255 I am plenty well versed on riding fast lol
I was doing this for so long wrecking my wrist. This was crazy informative and I will be practicing this before/on my next ride. Thank you!
Also holding the throttle like a screwdriver (angled from the side helps)
I have bar end mirrors, so I can't do this, but I have thought about changing them back to stock, just so I experiment with this technique.
Seems like your hand would be too far away from the front break.
@@Dave.O it's not. This grip allows you to cover your brake with your first two fingers while using your ring finger, pinky, and right side of your palm to control throttle.
Agree. I also call it ice cream cone.
@@DR4WZ Thanks for the description. I'm going to try it. Well once I finish replacing my front wheel bearings.
This is really useful as I've been riding for three years but only 125ccs, and only last month got a 700 so the throttle has become much more important XD I have noticed though that keeping your hand still and dropping your wrist right down does encourage you to lean forward when accelerating hard to balance the bike which isn't awful but I'll certainly try this technique tomorrow. Thanks!
The main reason this is a bad idea (bent wrist with throttle open) is that it increases the distance from your hand to the brake lever, this reduces your reaction time but even worse: it allows for more acceleration of your hand so that when you grab the brake in an emergency, there is far too much pressure and you risk the front wheel locking or flying forward over the bars (surprise stoppie)
Hey I will definitely try this! I usually put 2-3 fingers on the front lever and use my thumb and upper palm to roll the throttle
That was a doubt I had. Not anymore. Thank you!
👍 thnx so much.
Nice advice...👍...
Very usefull 👍
I'm used to riding dirt bikes so much with a quarter-turn throttle I put one on my naked bike and super sport. No wrist cramp here!!!
This is off topic but Kyle Wyman at Road Atlanta Sunday was amazing. His skill and concentration was off the chart. I get it, learn from the best... Good job Greg
Nice tips ❤️🙏
You know what’s crazy is that I’m a new rider and I’ve automatically began doing this. I use my fingers and palm more than my actual wrist on the throttle-happy to know I’m doing it right 😂
yeah its commin knolage tbh, stay with us now, come on back down from there. lol jusp playin around fam no hate
On old bikes i see the point, but on a new bike. I rarely twist it all the way, since 1/3 gives more than enough to get the revs screaming. Otherwise the ofroad screwdriver style is also a nice tip, only the elbow goes a bit wider
It's like a reflex to me now, but the way you describe it is perfect!
Well... That's Moto-jitsu, right? Gotta practice those katas so you can become a master!
I'm gonna try this tomorrow on my way to work =/ sounds interesting and potentially more efficient that was I currently do haha
great advice!!!
I been use this technique in my honda CB500X and works great, thanks Greg
I am learning to bike it really helped
Thanks! My right wrist was going numb alllllllll the time
Or you can “pro grip” and when you start grab further than you normally would and after you accelerate your wrist will be straight, you’ll have to adjust but it will keep you straight for the most part
That’s what I have been doing but I’m a new rider so not sure if there are downsides to this.
I have to do this on my '21 MT09SP as the rotation required to get wide open throttle (not that I use WOT much) looks similar to this MT07. Main downside is if you just roll off normally to closed throttle position it's harder to quickly get to the brake, so just have to remember to let the grip slip through the palm back to closed throttle. I feel the other techniques to get WOT shown in the video don't really work for me as the acceleration is so strong that it's difficult to maintain dexterity without full hand contact with the grip.
@@Ste1985zz that makes a lot of sense to me. Kick ass bike btw. Have the XSR700 now and looking to make the jump to that sweet CP3
I've only been riding since the beginning of the year an I've been instinctively trying this to find what is most comfortable. I thought I may have been teaching myself a bad habit so it is good to know that what I have been trying is correct. XD
I like to turn my hand counter clockwise a little bit so I have the right-rear of my palm very close to, if not on, the bar end. Hold the throttle like and ice cream cone so your wrist/forearm is doing the twisting and not so much your whole arm/shoulder. As people have said before it’s like turning a doorknob or a screwdriver, or using a knife. Allows for more comfortable/smoother throttle control. Once I started riding like this it feels unnatural to go back.
Moto jitsu good tip i tend to do that with my wrist and i have a bad wrist
This has to be worst advice cuz at high speed you have to hold handle tight not just fingers and palm
I personally only throttle with either pushing with my thumb or pulling with my fingers. And my brake fingers must never leave the lever. Learned the pants-browning way when a bunch of cars went into an intersection right when I entered, but the green light was mine for another 5 seconds
"because you'll run out of wrist"
Both humorous and wholesome xd
I twist the throttle with my thumb and fingers.. most of my riding is like this. Then if I want to go full throttle I twist the wrist for the extra final degrees. Gotta keep the hands like glass on those controls. Ride the bike like a horse steering and balance with your legs and hips not holding it by its ears
what do you mean 'like glass'? the horse metaphor makes sense.. New rider
"you'll run out of wrist" funny :)))
I dont recommend not fully grabbing the handle if you have a big powered bike in acceleration.
Screwdriver grip. Makes a ton of a difference..
Just a thought…on the Fz6 you can replace the throttle tube with the R6 one which reduces the amount of rotation needed for full throttle… thought be good for track bike 👌
I use my index finger and thumb to roll the throttle. The rest of my fingers are kinda floating on top as a guard but my hand is fully relaxed to keep my hands from cramping up, especially when it's cold 🥶 or super warm.
This is just me but I never have to turn the throttle over35-50% point, and I’ve tried the finger thing you showed, it’s really difficult especially if your on unpaved roads and standing. So I just always keep my rpm’s in mid range and cover my front brake with a finger or two!
lil old but yeah this is mainly for the track or I guess dummies wanting to go fast on the road
Do the four finger grab and fly off the back because you lost your grip on the throttle
yeah u are right many people in my country still do wrong :))
I do a hybrid of a couple things to do it since i have wrist problems and shoulder problems
Like others in the comments, I use a quick turn throttle tube. Also, zero throttle cable play.
I ride a 286cc bike and the QTTT reaps big rewards.
If the hand slips, you will he thrown backwards
So what do you do on a long trip and no cruise control any recommendations
i do this somehow instinctively. feels nice to be validated.
Rolling on is so automatic for me at this point that its hard to even know how I do it. But I'm able to very smoothly apply throttle progressively to full. though admittedly my downshifts and up shifts tend to be a bit rough on the bars which is something I need to work on.
The good news is you found an opportunity to talk about yourself.
When you "run out of wrist" just move towards the fuel tank.
It's natural to do anyways when you accelerating.
Je ne parle pas anglais cousin. mais j'ai compris que c'était un conseil pour ne pas se faire emmener par la moto. Très bonne vidéo 🙏
This is what I was looking for, thank you. 😊
welcome

Once I was doing this on some trails because my wrist was sore. I ended up whiskey throttling over some rough terrain and got thrown into a superman type thing lol.. luckily I let go of the gas fast enough and rode it out hanging off the back haha
I learned that from Sylvain Guintoli. Very cool guy. He's the test rider for Suzuki in motoGP
There is a much better option. In my opinion of course. Hold your hand more at an angle, and instead of pulling your wrist back and down, you just rotate your hand to counter clockwise. It allows you to keep full control without the discomfort and having to readjust.
A short throw throttle tube helps too
I like that I already do this without realizing how correct I actually was lol.
Good way to also avoid a death grip
A friend had a roll forward throttle back in the 70s, yep I'm old, on a U.K. 125 Harley Davidson. I have rode bikes for decades and have always thought we are doing this backwards.
Thank you so much, I got in an accident with your tutorial.
Don't believe it'll get you off balance when you do right turn
We have so bad roads. New rider so. This summer i will try all the styles.
Your Videos are so helpful. Love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
Glad you like them!
I just overwrap my hand around the grip and 'preload-twist' my hand so that any loose bits like glove, free-play etc, are tight in order for the connection to be firm once you start accelerating. Hard to explain.
I've never used full throttle in any bike i have ridden. Max I can rotate is the speed i can control in any bike. I keep this measure since i started riding bikes at 16. Eighteen years later never had an accident related to speed or loose control.
I personally prefer the 2nd method you expose, as sliding the throttle through the end of my fingers I could lose control of throttle easier, suddenly deccelerating - Dangerous at high speeds, specially cornering!
Maybe it's just getting used to it, and being ready to act in miliseconds in case something like that would happen.
Is there a pro tip for old carbs? On my cb500four I work against loads of springs and 4 carb cylinders and not just a flap. When driving some hours I feel pretty damaged at my right wrist. Also the force I need to apply to the brake is quite something to stop the bike. Not to compare to a modern bike.
Any ideas? Or should I just go train my right hand? 😉🤣
Thanks but, i think keep the twist one, since i slipped my hand(riding through road bump) while doing your method and nearly accident
That is much deadly especially with sudden bumps while doing that
Personally, I roll the throttle between my fingers. Or I use the key technique when leaning. Works perfectly.
I use my index and thumb finger to roll the throttle while my other fingers stays in place. That way you can still roll and grip the throttle in place without doing unnecessary movements.
These things u learn by riding, I've been riding for past 4 years. It'll be a habit as u keep riding. Nice tip for the beginners to start it off
👍🏼
Like this it’s also way easier and quicker to grab the brakelever
R6 throttle tube and r6 grips. The difference is night and day. Factory MT-07 requires a full 90° of rotation (1/4 turn) to go from idle to full throttle. The Motion Pro throttle tube requires 72° of rotation (1/5 turn) to perform the same operation. The R6 throttle tube requires the least amount of rotation with only 60° (1/6 turn). That's just the tube the grip is also night and day batter. Best $40 you will ever spend. Your right it's best not to use your wrist as this makes your right arm shorter than your left. If you roll on using your shoulder more than your wrist your arms stay equal in length. Practice holding a set of bars in front of you making all the motions. Doing a wheelie with one arm longer than the other is going to result in a tank slapper. Repositioning your hand and having no idea where closed throttle is madness. What's important is knowing where closed throttle is and knowing when the bars are straight. Don't mess with your datum's. This throttle tube will help you and your jacked up wrists I promise you. Also the grips are just nicer to touch. You will be loving it. It's really a no brainer.
Then you hit a pot hole and you dont grip the throttle properly? What going to happen?
I use the icecream method to easily go harder and slower and in corners.
I'm a beginner, i'm having trouble from releasing clutch and giving throttles, afraid the bike will stalls so i releases the clutch pretty slow in result of slower acceleration.
Is it okay if i let go the clutch instantly after shifting up ? do i need to apply throttles instanly too ? is it the same with shifting down?
I kinda do what I call walking the throttle where I use my thumb to keep the throttle down and walk my hand back up.
BRO JUST SHOWED A MILLION PEOPLE HOW TO WISKY THROTTLE
This is how to not have enough time in emergency braking. You must keep your index and middle finger always on the brake lever, and use ring and pinky finger to grap and pull the throttle.
Or just simply get a different cam for the throttle if it’s cable operated and a different tune if throttle by wire
I installed a paddle to relax my grip during cruise.Once I had to do a slow speed panic stop to avoid the car in front of me BUT as I did full braking my wrist rotated the paddle causing accelleration at the same time.
The bike lurched forward and left inbetween two cars. One on my left, one to my right. The bike WHEELIED UP,then dropped down between them.My right calf got slightly bruised and the left side of the tank got scraped. But it all happened in SLO MO.As it was in progress I was only concerned with the damage to the bike and not me.
