Somehow, everytime I see a new Indonesian action movie comes out, I always believe that Yayan Ruhiyan (Mad Dog) is behind the choreography, even though he isn't.
Wow I Agree he's behind the Placing of Sharp and unusual object for fun.

At least....to my opinion..when a native speaker read "cuh yunto" it's sound more similiar to the real pronounce...than giant toe...it's indeed easier to pronounce...but u say it wrong...

My favorite character is definitely The Operator ( Julie Estelle), She would've killed Ito ( Joe Taslim) in that one fight, had the fight kept going. She's just so badass, mostly dominating throughout the fight against the main character. She even could handle two female assassins and eventually killed both them lol...
Don’t forget he was doing all this from the beginning with a wound on his gut. All of these wounds yet he was still matching others who were at their best while he was riddled with wounds and fatigue.
Ito went through all shit all day Ito in his best condition would beat The Operator All day even Arian could beat her
Ehhh I mean literally throughout the whole fight she did shit that didn’t make sense Ito is a big mofo and she throws him like nothing like tf. Plus he had clean shots but didn’t take them like tf
@@jojokujo6886 Yes I think that’s obvious since Ito beats Arian and Arian basically one shot Alma. The Operator struggled against Alma and Elena while I’m pretty sure Arian would have ended them both much sooner.
Timo is actually known as a horror movie director in here, so yeah..its an action like "raid" with a horror approach to it. Love all your review guys..

Damn!, netflix had some of the good stuff rite now. My shitty ISP block it cause they selling the same sevices, but with shittier contains. Already had to bought an expensive mobile internet packages just to watch netflix, had to watch this masterpieces on much smaller screen. :(

I actually hate Timo...for me, this is just a thriller movie with action and gore. But, i think most of the audience like this. Is there any news about the sequel?

The best way to summarize this movie is The Raid choreography + blood. Tons and tons of blood. Oh and guts cut open. And brain exploded. And a guy's crotch stabbed by a hook. And someone's get stabbed with a cow leg bone. And another extremely gory things ever put on the screen
Yeah but, The Raid did have blood. Lots of it.

Raid is a classic
I already watched the movie like 4 times already. The 2nd viewing made me realize that this is the best action martial art movie of all time. The story is good enough to make you interested. And the acting is surprisingly good. Reina, White Boy Bobby and Shinta are awesome. Julie Estelle and Iko Uwais are charismatic. The action, fight scenes, editing and cinematography are all incredible. Credit to Timo Tjahjanto for making Peter Berg looks like an amateur porn filmmaker. I think this movie is better than both the raid movies. 10/10..
It really does make Mile 22 look like total garbage. I just watched this for the first time and It is freaking amazing. Cinematography, Editing, The Score, Acting, Choreography, Triad Gangster Badassness...... It has it all and more!!!!!!!!
Great movie but Raid 1 n 2 are the best
I thought the raid movies had a better story and they had iko as the main Leading character but this movie trumps them for gore and violence!!!
Timo's speciality was horror movies or thrillers. In this movie, as an indonesian...i found it a little bit dissapointing. Some dialogues was too stiff for us and sometimes we couldn't even hear what the actors saying. I didn't like Timo's style. But i have to admit that he did well. Timo manage to change one of the actress image as an assasin. The one with the steel wire, she never plays any action movies. Her famous debut was a romantic movie. I was amazed that she could do the action part. In fact, there was an accident that she was thrown and fell without any matress. She tried so hard not to cry aloud. Overall, this movie was fine for me. Oh...we should wait for the sequel, its about the operator.
I have to object 1 thing. The best action martial art movie will be raid and raid 2 but this movie is 5 star non the less
i kinda wish netflix would release their films for at least a limited time, this movie would've been amazing to see on the big screen with surround sound

White Boy Bobby may not have been MVP, but ill be damned if he wasnt the supreme badass of this film. Dude stacked almost as many bodies as Ito, despite being a junkie with only one foot.
And to believe that my first thought was "what kind of self respecting Indonesian parents name their kid, Bob?".

Great review !! The film was insane, one of my favourite films of the year. Joe and Iko are badass. In my review i mentioned that i loved that the women was portrayed as powerful and badass.
Couldn't agree more to you guys' review. I can understand where Greg is coming when he said that Joe Taslim seemed to be so stoic and not colorful enough compared to the other characters. The main reason that probably causes this is the language barrier. If you understand Bahasa, you could feel the warmth in the way Joe talked in the movie as he hasn't cast aside his "humanity" and as he try to portray the character of "the big brother" for the other crew. Even to Iko's character. In my opinion, TNCFU has better storyline compared to TRs and the shots are amazing. What truly impresses me is the way Joe portrayed the feelings of his character. Whenever he feels angry, you can sense it as you see him in action and as he talks during the movie. And the way Joe portray when someone is hurt, I haven't seen a more perfect job than the ones he did (in my opinion). This leads me to my most favorite shot, the one where Joe drove to a line of triads and their leader. The sense of anger and the feeling of wanting to end it all were so perfect. Finally, thanks for the review guys. Cheers.

Mile 22 is a bit underwhelming compared to Iko's other famous movies. Mainly due to camera direction is a mess and ruined Iko's fighting coreography. I hope Western Directors can learn more about fiming a fighting scene from The Raid (1+2) and TNCBU before inviting Iko to play on their movies.
Cosmoman78 its because the western cineast with its ego doesn't want to be stuck with Iko's coreography instead of they still try to sell generic shoot out action flicks which no longer make sense. except johnwick.. it's about choreography now.

Most martial arts movies have simple story to trigger the action. Man From Nowhere and many others had a similar setup. Man having to take on gangsters to protect a child plot to have fight scenes.
The only difference was in this one it really didn’t make any sense

"Tj" is old Indonesian version letter for "C", so "Timo Tjahjanto" spelled as "Timo Cahyanto".
I didnt enjoy it as much as either of The Raid movies. Action and choreography was not quite to the level of the raids. But the brutality and gore is like double the raids and that's really it. In the raid the gore and brutality felt much more realistic, this one just felt way over the top. Its like a 6 out of 10 for me.
The action choreography was just as good as the raid. What are you talking about dude? It was just as good. If not better.

The movie is deeper than you realize remember the neon cross outside the apartment when the operator is talking to Joe? Remember when the blond evil assassin girl walked up to the cross on the wall and turned it upside down and the operator obviously disapproved ? There were two criminals that were crucified with Christ Joe is the criminal on the cross that repented. He still had a rough time and suffereda long crucifixion but he had redemption and eternal life in the end. Iko is the criminal that did not repent. He suffered a long crucifixion as well but did not receive eternal life.
The assassin lady who protects the girl was fucking awesome

The big fight with a crowd of blokes is really bad with all these bad guys literally lining up to be battered. You can actually see them waiting for their turn as their mates get beaten to a pulp. You don't see that in the Raid movies. Julie Estelle kicks ass though.
Even Michael Myers wouldn't survive in this movie xD Anyways this is a first part of a trilogy, the director confirmed it.
The song Murderer - Low, which was played during the last scene in "The Night Comes for Us." so hit. Actually, the meaning of the lyrics is ironic. The point is to explain that we commit murder in the name of God. A kind of justification for how evil we are. The point is fit to this film, killing each other without feeling guilty, even to kill criminals brutally.
Next Iko uwais in netflix martial art series Wu Assassins also with katheryn winnick, mark dacascos, byron mann.. the reason why iron fist cancelled😅
