Finally, an intelligent gardener who shows detailed video of deadheading and explains the placement of each cut. This is the 5th video on the topic I've seen on deadheading, and the only one that explains things. I'm done! Thank you. Oh, I don't know why, but when I listen to this without looking at the video, I see Robin Williams.
I am glad you found the video useful but have no idea why you thought of Robin Williams.
@@GardeningatDouentza I'm guessing they think your accent sounds like the impersonation Robin Williams did in the movie, Mrs. Doubtfire.
5 reasons why BECAUSE there are so many NEW gardener's that need to know and be shown 10 out of 10 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you so much for that feedback. Happy growing!
Deadheading Flowers, best Metal band name I heard in a while 😁
Haha. I will tell my son. He is actually looking for a name for his heavy metal band.😁
@@GardeningatDouentza 😁
Thank you. I learn so much about how to dead head from your video.
Great to hear
Once in a while my heucheras do rebloom. Husband made me the perfect stool for picky deadheading. It is low enough and has legs that go around plants that I need to sit above. Thanks for lovely video.
Your hubby sounds very handy 🙂
Thank you so much. Your video helped me. I love flowers and your video zoomed in so that I could see what you were doing. I found that so helpful.
That's what it's all about! Have a great weekend 😊
@@GardeningatDouentza Same to you. God bless you.
Thank you! I am just getting used to my first ever garden and this video and your channel generally are so helpful 🙏🏻
What exciting times! A new garden is a treasure and I'm glad I can help you in some small way. Have a great day.
So so useful, thank you for taking the time to help us newbies out, we appreciate it! 😁
You are so welcome!
Appreciate this so much as a new gardener!
I'm here to help 😊
@@GardeningatDouentza Do you need to pull out yellowing/brown leaves?
What a beautiful garden
Thank you 😊
I’m constantly deadheading my pansies, marigolds & scabiosa flowers. It is a relaxing enjoyable chore. Thank you!
Deadheading is one of the joys of gardening!
The best video I’ve seen about pruning and deadheading excellent!
Wow, thank you!
Very informative & useful. Thank you, April of Nebraska, USA ❤
Glad it was helpful!
Very thorough and clear instructions. Video quality is bright, closeup, and clear visually. Thank you for this video. So helpful
Glad it was helpful!
We'll just call you the Queen of Hearts. Off with their heads! 😉
Yikes. But okay :)
Thank you. Experts say to deadhead. No one shows you how. Great vid.
Now you know. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for your excellent instructions and when, why, and how to deadhead! From the US in Alabama, I will subscribe!
Greetings from Wexford in Ireland to Alabama and thank you for the subscription
Thanks so much for the video. Very clear instructions. I have gotten into plants within the last two years picking up where my mom and grandma left off. I never realized they knew so much about gardening and sure wish I would have paid more attention to them when I was young. A big Hello from South Carolina!
Hello from Wexford in Ireland to South Carolina. There is plenty to learn about gardening and I am sure you will enjoy the journey.
This was an incredibly helpful video. Thank you kindly for sharing your knowledge with us.
You are very welcome. Have a great day!
You are an endless source of useful information. And your garden videos are always so motivating.
But I wonder, with so many flowers in your garden you could use some extra hands or some help. I am not volunteering though, lol. Maybe next time 🤣
You nearly talked yourself into a job there, Fernanda. Thank you for watching and such positive feedback.
Can you do a video on deadheading pentas and angelonia. I get so confused especially with the penta plant because it's hard to tell the spent heads and not sure exactly where to cut. Love the video . I have sooo many flowers this year I have tried to learn deadheading the proper way on all my new kind I planted this year.
What a great suggestion. There's probably a need for a video on deadheading all kinds of annuals. Thank you
Excellent informative content. Thankyou
Glad it was helpful!
totally enjoyed the video. very informative. i suggest, though, that you show the names of the plants being discussed. thanks
If it weren’t for the cost of airfare, I’d pop right over and help you deadhead. As it is I probably need a support group since I compulsively deadhead not only my flowers, but some of my neighbors’ flowers. 🌼🌸
Haha. A person after my own heart 😂
Gardening at Douentza, 🌼😀
Thank you! This was so helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
Your favorite thing to do in the summer Garden! Your plants must love you moocho much! I fail at this choir. But when i do it sure looks nice and the plants are a lot happier. Have you ever tried to make a salve with the calendula? I just watched a video on it. Might be kind of fun trying to make some skin care products. Thanks for showing this...i will be more careful with the campanulas!
I’ve heard calendula make a great natural dye. 🌼Where I live in South Carolina I grow Mexican marigolds for that cheery bright color.
Thank you for the suggestion, Jeanne. I will bear it in mind if I get some free time. Lots to do at the moment out there! Happy growing!
Great video thank you 🙏
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for such a fantastic video! If you are deadheading a flower, is it okay to toss the flower head back into the garden soil? Or will the seeds from the deadheaded flower trigger the plant to stop producing flowers?
It is no problem to put the flower heads in the border, if you want. Thanks for watching and happy growing
@@GardeningatDouentza Thank you so much!
Brilliant video so informative.
Where are you located, I’m from Clare living in NC. Hoping to be home sometime in the next few weeks 🤞🍀🌸
Hi there. Oh I do hope this pandemic allows us all to get back to normal soon. I'm in Wexford.
Suuuper helpful!
Oh good 😁
Gardening at Douentza Just had a visit yesterday with a friend who has peonies in her yard, and was able to provide her some tips based on this video! Thank you 💕
Love the video very easy instructions what is the name of the ornamental grass your standing next to at 0.16 please?
Thank you

helpful, thanks!
Welcome
I can't remember the name of plant we have, but the leaves produce delicate white flowers along a thin stalk, and wilt once late summer arrives. I think it's a form of clethra. How would you deadhead something like that?
The clethra is a shrub/tree. We don't usually deadhead shrubs or trees.
Thanks for this; the one plant which confuses me is how to deadhead verbena bonariensis. I know you should leave them until spring and let them re-seed but they can look tatty.
Yes, I agree with you about the verbena. I am often tempted to cut them before spring.
👌👍
👍🏼
What about biennials like sweet williams and verbascum? Will they flower again if deadheaded or do you throw the whole plant away when it's finished flowering?
Hello there, Jennifer, and thank you for your comment.
No, biennials will not reflower if deadheaded. If the foliage still has value, as with many verbascums, then leave them in situ. If not, and you don't want seed, just pull the whole thing out. By the way, and perhaps you already know, not all verbascums die after flowering. There are perennial ones too. Happy gardening!
Perhaps you will enjoy my verbascum video, called 'promiscuous verbascum' or some such.
Gardening at Douentza ok I'll check that one out. Thanks!
Will penstemon rebloom if you deadhead?
Hi there. With penstemons, some varieties are better at repeat flowering than others. If you remove the dead spike just below the dead flowers, there should be several more spikes ready to take over from lower leaf nodes - so maybe you'll get several smaller flower spikes.
If you cut lower down, there will be fewer leaf nodes so you'll get fewer spikes which will be bigger.
Hope this helps.
So it's up to you.
Oh yeah, I deadhead all my buddlieas EVERY day so they won’t set seed and they continue blooming till frost.
Good going. Buddleias are prolific seeders.
Yes in some places but probably I am too far north for them to reseed. Some are marginally hardy here in zone 5.
