Meconopsis are BEAUTIFUL:-) I really LOVE the blue flowers :-) thanks so much for sharing Rachel and sending you an abundance of love and heaps of happiness and flower power from Waterford to Wexford and have a FANTASTIC Monday and week ahead XXXXX
Thank you, Lyn :)
Thanks for this, Rachel. I throughly enjoyed this visit with these beauties from the Himalayas. ~ You touched upon a subject of a somewhat mysterious nature; why seeds of a plant germinate and grow on in one location and not another. The spot 'chosen', as in the case of your Meconopsis, may appear unsuitable, while adjacent, seemingly ideal ground lays fallow. Or one can have an area with uniform soil conditions with seeds germinating seemingly arbitrarily in one spot only. Sometimes an answer can be ascertained with careful observation, ex. moisture, sunlight, etc., but often the mystery remains.
It is what keeps plants so interesting :)
I had one which was a gorgeous powdery blue, but like a fool, I didn't give it the right care it needed. Might try again next year though, they are gorgeous. Thanks for showing us yours.
It's easy to get it wrong. Good luck with the new one if you go again I love the colour too.
Very cute , never heard of it before , looks like a wild plant ... Thank you for sharing ...
Thank you for watching,
I bought a package of blue poppy seed and kept the packet in the fridge for a year before potting up. Used a mix of mostly Perlite with a bit of pro-mix. Sowed seed on top. Also placed small plastic pot inside Tim Hortons plastic iced coffee cup for humidity. To prevent damp off put some hydrogen peroxide in mister bottle and mist top of seedlings. I have seedlings now after sowing 2 weeks ago!!
Well done. Hope they go on to do brilliantly for you.
If there are three things I miss from my garden in Seattle WA are: Hellebore Argutifolius, Himalayan Menconopsis, and Lankon lilies. Regarding my Lankon lilies, I for the life of me can't find them for sale anywhere! I still own my home so I can always drive across the country and dig them up and bring them back with me.
That seems a rather extreme solution to get your hands on the liles but needs must 😊 Thanks for watching.
Just Beautifull!! I saw my first Himalaian poppy at the last orchid show, I was amazed by the colour... but they told me they do not cope very well with hot summers so they are not for my garden at all! thanks for sharing :)
Yes, the colour is quite mesmerising. Some people do not like them because they say the colour looks too unnatural. I don't feel that myself. But, yes, a plant for a cool, moist shady spot with acid soil.
Hi it was good to meet you on Sunday, and see your lovely garden, TFS Mairead
Yes, likewise, Mairead. I'm going to sow those lovely sweetpea in autumn in the greenhouse. Can't wait for the fragrance :)

GT video and can you let me know what type of soil they need please 😁🐞👍👍
I have ericaceous soil.
I think it was M. betonicifolia, Rachel.
Hi there, oh friend who gave the meconopsis to me :) I had a note in the database that it might be betonicifolia but it sure is a beauty. Thanks for giving it to me.
Thank you!!!

The variety you grow are o doubt the M. lighome. They have four petals.
Or just Meconopsis betonicifolia.

Of course the shade makes a difference.
