    Let's talk about the Spurs and how they've been the best franchise basically ever since Popovich took over the job. They've been so great the last three decades that I'm not even sure people realize they've been around since the 70's.

    Also not noted in the video: They were such a chemistry-filled team that Tony Parker and Brent Barry even shared wives. True teamwork right there.

    I'm a Bulls fan but I love the Spurs so much. They are really smart franchise and unlike the other teams who always win in sports when they win it is always so cool to watch.

    • @KazeShikamaru

      luigi jimenez I don't think the team sucks. People were downplaying them this year. There is a reason they are over .500 and have a good chance of finish second in the East. Also can't make a shot to save their life? Butler and Wade are shooting over 40% last I checked. It's just the bench is very concerning with this team. I expect so moves at the deadline to clear space and bring in some knock down shooters.

    • @TheUltimateRage
      @TheUltimateRage 7 лет назад

      When MCW and McD come back, hopefully that'll jumpstart the bench's production because our bench has cost us a large portion of our losses......

    • @TheUltimateRage
      @TheUltimateRage 7 лет назад

      luigi jimenez Nah bruh you trippin'. Wade is killin' it behind the 3 this year, and Jimmy's been puttin' up solid numbers. It's mostly just the bench that chokes away the lead in the 2nd quarter that the starters build in the 1st, lettin the opps go on major runs that become difficult to come back from.

    • @KazeShikamaru
      @KazeShikamaru 7 лет назад +1

      lol you should look at their stats LOL! They are killing from three. But the bench has been a weakness. We lack a knock shooter off the bench. We got good bigs and wing players.

    you know the spurs are the only team in sports history to never have a losing record against any opponent in their franchise history, nobody else has done it, not the yankees, not the lakers, not the montreal canadians, nobody but the spurs, wow. Even in the pre duncan era before they were winning championships they were still competitive year in and year out and incredibly they have only missed the playoffs 4 times in their whole history since 1976-77, 4 times in 40 years, thats insane.

    Started watching the NBA in 2001, I was 5 years old at the time! And ever since then the Spurs have never had a losing record. Their consistency, and development of players into their system, and use their talents to the maximum. Definitely the best organization by far and they don't get recognized for it, that's why Popovich is consider one of the greatest if not the great coach of all time and Tim Duncan is the Greatest PF of all time, success.

    Well, as fate would have it, on the night I make a video praising San Antonio they lose to Orlando lmao.
    Anyways, the Spurs deserved a vid because they don't get enough credit for how great they've been, and what it's taken to be this consistent.

    I just wanted to say Thank You! Thank You for giving The San Antonio Spurs Respect. I grew up a Spurs Fan but unfortunately they still don't get Respect from the League really if you watch NBA League Pass commercials they only show San Antonio getting dunked on or something that makes them look bad even though we've had David Robinson only to show how Olajuwon made him look bad or even Tim Duncan and now we got Kawhi Leonard even after winning The 2014 Finals MVP, The NBA2k game doesn't even put him on the cover. So enough letting me vent I Just wanted to say Thank You

    Probably the best basketball I remember to have ever watched in my life was San Antonio's in 2014 when they won their last championship. That ball movement, all the team effort- basketball played how it is supposed to be- with brain.

    • @raghurampurohit5251
      @raghurampurohit5251 7 лет назад +3

      Yep, they pretty much showed everyone why team work is so important in basketball. It's really weird when you think about the fact that a player like Danny Green was contending for Finals MVP(No offense to Green, he played really well in that series, but if he was on any other team, there's no way he would get enough minutes to make a difference).
      I also hate the fact people never bring up Tim Duncan when they talk about greatest players of all time just because he wasn't flashy. If Kobe can be in discussion for GOAT, why not Duncan. TD actually has more accolades than Kobe(I'd take 5xChampionships, 2xMVP, 3xFinal MVP over 5xChampionships, 1xMVP, 2xFinal MVP).

    Something you didn't mention that is obviously fantastic for their organization: Scouting. None of their stars (Ginobili, Parker, Leonard) were top draft picks, and in many cases they picked better late than the teams that picked early.

    Appreciate the respect for the Spurs. I've been a lifelong fan, watching and going to games since Gervin, Johnny Moore played in the Hemisphere Arena. You could stand outside and wait for both teams to come out to the bus and get autographs. I was about 12 and loved watching them, they would always get so close and then run into the Showtime Lakers. A lot of frustrating but fun years. And then it all came together. It's hard to praise the team without sounding like a homer, but other teams have streaks of great play (Boston, Lakers, Bulls are the exceptions, really just the Celtics & Lakers), our guys have been pretty consistent for about 20 years. They're usually a factor until the west finals. Right now is Golden States time, Cleveland's time, doesn't mean we don't have a chance, just some years are better than others, we'll see. But you hit it right on, it starts from the top, the culture is allowed to flourish because Peter Holt is huge fan that had the resources to buy the team, then stay out of the way. Let's the people who know basketball, do their thing without having to look over their shoulders and see if Holt is second guessing them. You think Pop has ever worried about the consequences of a play or a season? That's a credit to Mr. Holt. Look at the ownership of Dallas, both NBA and NFL.
    It used to bother me that our guys were never showcased in NBA promos, it was always the flavor of the moment. But now that I'm older, I really understand the big picture the Spurs strive for. Our guys take pay cuts to help sign another player that is due. Pop cares for the players beyond the game, that goes a long way. Yes it's business, but the model works. It's unrealistic to think that means a trophy every year, but to be in position every year is incredible. These guys make a lot of money and could have made more elsewhere, but they know the organization has their back and they're best interest in mind while they play and when they hang it up.
    I have so much more to say, but I already said a lot. I love the Spurs even during those lean years, and I appreciate other teams that are doing it right. I'm happy for Golden State, they suffered a long time, same for the Clippers, Cleveland and a couple of others even Hous... I can't bring myself to even type out their name :-). Every year I know we have chance, a little gimpy this year but it'll be fine. We win, We lose, We move on to the next up! Thanks! #GoSpursGo

    Having a dream team.... cough.... cough WARRIORS doesn't mean you will be good. Having a good system and a good front office with role players that fit the system means longevity and players who stay on your team for their whole careers not like KD who will stay for 1 or 2 seasons before he leaves and the warriors will have to start over.

    • @ghk2001
      @ghk2001 7 лет назад +4

      Brian Schweitzer Warriors have a great system and front office. Notice how great their drafting has been and their ability to get talent anywhere in the draft. Also the Warriors spent a lot of money hiring people who worked with the Spurs and modeled their organizational structure after the Spurs.

    • @josefrancisco4178
      @josefrancisco4178 7 лет назад +1

      Warriors built their dream team through excellent draft picks (all of them above 10th), people who hate them for being stacked are ridiculous, they did an amazing job, they developed 3 all stars and in an almost impossible situation signed another one.

    • @alexstumbo9491
      @alexstumbo9491 6 лет назад

      The Warriors do have a great front office though.. they’ve nailed pretty much every draft and free agent signing for the past 8 years. They drafted three future hall of famers within a few years, developed them, and capped it off by signing another one. Plus, they’ve been great a reloading once they lose a few pieces.

    They have class and they win every single year. I am a Celtics' fan myself, but the Spurs look like a model organization: their owner is good, their fans are passionate, they play unselfish, intelligent basketball, they are a class act, they have one of the best coaches ever, and they have won 50 games each year in the past two decades (with the exception of the strike year, in which they won the championship). I absolutely would agree that the Spurs are the "model" organization, with no doubt.

  • @K.R.20
    @K.R.20 7 лет назад +4

    I don't think it's about finding the right players to plug into the Spurs "system." It's about finding guys who fit into the Spurs culture. It's about the player's attitude. Pop and Co. don't condone bullshit or diva behavior. It's about respecting the coach and teammates. Stephen Jackson (who I like and helped bring San Antonio a ring) complains about playing time and begins to create a problem? He's gone. How many coaches in the NBA have that type of power? Carlisle and maybe......Rivers? It's not like the Spurs are running plays that no one else is. There's only so many sets you can run on a basketball court. It's the unselfishness of everyone, guys willing to make the extra pass and not just worried about getting theres. It's the comradeship and genuine friendship, forged over team dinners and team outings.
    Also, they have always had talent and star power. People talk about the system, the system, the system but you need people who can play too. Sure Duncan, Parker, Manu, and Robinson come to mind (Manu and T.P. have been criminally underrated their entire careers) but they've also had Finley, Horry, Bowen, Kawhi, Diaw, Jackson, Avery, Elliot, Barry, R. Jefferson (even though you let us down), Mills, G. Hill, Neal, Splitter, Baynes, Boban, Green and others.
    And yeah guys who have excelled in their "system" don't always find success with new teams and some see that as proof that it's the "system" that made them look good but I don't see that as an indictment of their play as much as it is just about playing for a worse team who plays nothing like the Spurs in terms of selflessness and lacks the comradeship, team mentality. Belenelli played great for the Spurs but then really fell off in Sacramento last year. Hmm....I wonder why?

  • @thespiralgoeson

    I think the main reason the Spurs are the best franchise in basketball, arguably in all of sports,- other than having an all-time great coach- is that they evaluate talent better than any franchise in the history of the NBA. They consistently find diamonds in the rough, landing all-NBA level talent despite never having high draft picks. I don't think anybody imagined that guys like Parker, Ginobili, or Kawhi Leonard would be stars coming into the league. But the Spurs did, and all three of those guys are future Hall of Famers.
    The other important thing to note is that the Spurs NEVER overspend on free agents. Every year, while the other teams are overspending on aging, past-their-prime stars, or foolishly chasing Lebron, Durant, or whoever, the Spurs only go after role players who fit their system and don't cost a fortune. In their two decades of dominance, only once have the Spurs ever made a big, flashy, free agent signing- Aldridge. And even then, they didn't overpay for him, and he fits their system perfectly.
