However, we were also technologically "Outnumbered" because of our 100, 000 brave Ethiopians, most of them were farmers and peasants who had never seen rifles or machine guns in their entire life. Most of them literally joined the battle with sticks and stones. On the other hand, the 15,000 Italian Soldiers were battle-hardened soldiers who were trained to kill at will and were equipped with state-of-the-art weapons of the time. Plus, bear in mind that it was the Italians who tried to invade and subdue us, they were the bad guys NOT the other way around. Whatsoever, we Ethippiand defeated the fascist Italian colonizers because we were united and fought as a single unit despite our internal disagreements and conflicts some officers had that time with King Menelik II. We won the battle because we were ready to give up our lives to our beloved country willingly.

My father did our ancestry and found out that we came to the United States by way of England, originally from Ethiopia. U don't know how happy I was to find this out. It gave me clarification as to where my strength and courage came from, bc Ethiopia refused to be colonized. I'm proud to be from great ppl!!! Actually, Ethiopia, even being a christian kingdom for centuries, has been relatively unknown to europe throughout the dark ages except in some stories being told about a 'powerful christian ally somewhere far away in africa'

I visited Ethiopia few years ago and travelled through the country. Everything in this country is original and authentic. I have never felt so at home and mesmerized by a country. Colonizers stole many many things from Africans. Ethiopia represent the unstolen version of many african countries. my heart is itching to go back again when the war is over. They forced Eritrean schools to get rid of all their language( Tigrinya) and replaced it with Amharic, they tried erasing the whole Eritrean culture so we wouldn't stand up and fight, but we did, and after a 30 year war, a rebel group won the war against the same army that kept out all these colonisers. As a Brit I am happy at least somewhere mamanged to stay whole in an ever changing world. I am half botswanan myself (my dad is botswanan), and personallly, I think the Empire had a long term positive impact on my dad home nation. He was also proud to be part of the Empire, It is why he moved to the UK. Today, botswana is one of the most prosperous african nations.

What I find interesting about world colonization history is that, it was usually Western and Central Europe that colonized other continents. You don't hear a lot about Eastern Europe colonizing large places. Like I think Russia colonized Alaska before we (the US) got it but still, I think I alot of Eastern European colonization must be more internal (due to the size of Russia) and their current attempts to colonize the Ukraine.

I think other important factor that was not mentioned In this video are Ethiopian geography and it's rich history. Ethiopia is very mountainous and any foreign invasion into Ethiopian heartland is extremely difficult and will meet with extreme resistance among its population. Ethiopia has remained independent for the most part in its rich and long history and barely ever was controlled by any power, Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, Romans, Arabs, Turks, British, French, or Italians. Unlike most of Africa, Ethiopia was already a state before European colonization of this continent which makes any colonization attempt difficult as British knew this and that's why they were happy to hand Ethiopia to Italy to basically waste Italian resources.
Alaf, Afghanistan is very mountainous also and that is one reason given that they have been rarely conquered in history. They call it "the graveyard of empires". You see how America just left half-ass and in haste.

The mountainous areas were the biggest help for the Ethiopians. The same can be said about the Cockpit Country in Jamaica. The British were afraid of them. The rest of Africa was not mountainous like Ethiopia, the people fought long and hard, but a flat landscape is easier conquer.
