They started changing it in "Sexy Free and Single" and "A-cha" era. Till this day people think that Suju sounds like back in the old days and forget to give them a chance. Glad you like their newer stuff. I enjoy all their music their B-sides is where it's at for me 💙. BONANAMA album has great songs i love their older albums.

Agree with you regarding autotune, esp in the case of SuJu because they are such great singers. Love when they still perform these songs live, but without it. Regarding the evolution, the singing potential was there all the time and utilized from the beginning though, see eg "Sorry Sorry Answer", a very different slow R&B ballad version of "Sorry Sorry"! Esp the addition of Kyuhyun one year after their founding cemented their reputation as a great vocal group. They are also famous - or should I say notorious - to this day for their hip thrusts, which were still a bit of a scandal back in the day. Esp Leeteuk (the guy whose chest caught your eye - he's my bias) performs them with particular enthusiasm that one cannot help but call an o-face. So glad he brought back his signature look of blazer, no shirt and a choker around 2019, he still pulls that off as well as he did back then. Note that one of the dance moves simulates skating - it's an hommage to Korean Olympic gold medalist Yuna Kim, esp her performance of "Dance Macabre" in 2010. And incidentally, the swinging lightbulb reminds me of a famous scene in Hitchcock's "Psycho".
