I love y’all’s videos! Thank you for sharing. I just started reselling in July. I took your whimsigoth tag and put it on a black & brown blouse I’d had listed for a while and it literally sold the next day! So I really value your insight and am grateful that you’re sharing it with us. Thank you.
Great topics! For those of us who are scattered, it's a constant work in progress. I loved that you said not all unlisted inventory is a 'death pile.' That makes me feel so much better. I always want to get 'caught up' but it never happens. I usually have about 20-40 in progress and now I can give myself permission to say that's ok. As always, thanks!
Sean, Bethany! As I am taking pictures at 6:20 in the evening watching your video, with piles on the couch, I am in awe. I have an eBay room that spilled over into the living room and office...and kitchen... I so needed this! You both are incredible and so relatable!! I appreciate you more than you will ever know!!!
I am a 56 year old mom and grandma. I hope to start reselling full time, I love it. Unfortunately, I live in such a rural area the closest outlet or bins is 2 hours away, and I still work full time job. 80% of my items in my ebay store are style based, not a lot of bolo brands for me. I love your videos and have learned so much. I hope my ebay store starts picking up and I can start selling to make a full time living.
At one point, our store was around 60%-ish style based pieces! That will hopefully give you some hope in terms of style based being a great business model too! I definitely hear you though on things being a bit difficult, and we believe in you too! :)
@susankorth725 Not really sure what you mean by this comment - we’ve been multi-six figure resellers for YEARS, and didn’t even make a RUclips video until about 4-5 months ago… let alone getting paid from YT 😂 Weird thing to be negative and assume someone else’s income breakdown but to each their own 🤷🏻♂️
I currently have inventory in boxes in a spare room at my 87 year old dad's house. Two bedrooms have closets that are full. But, dad has a basement and I'm trying to slowly clean out in preparation to get rid of stuff. I'm not a big reseller but need to get more organized before things move to the basement. Right now I sold a blouse that I can't find. I'll find it and ship it tomorrow morning after I'm deep in sweat and dizzy from looking through boxes. I'm trying to do what I can, but my time is limited while taking care of him. I know that my time will come. So that blouse that I have to dig through currently will wait until tomorrow morning. I will find it and I will try to improve on my process. Love your videos!
It’s not about boundaries. It’s about process and discipline. Proper and organized storage of your items is an important part of being a reseller. It’s not optional. Everyone enjoys the shopping part and then they know nothing will sell if they don’t do the listing. So what gets left undone? Proper storage and organization. But as you noticed, you pay the price when you can’t find the item that you sold. The thing you can’t get back is time. The time you avoided using in organizing, you lost in the search. The thing is if you do it when you, decide to do it then you are in control of your process. Instead of it happening for you at times that don’t really work for your life.
I just started to resell clothing about three months ago and the first thing that I put on place it was an inventory system. I had a past experience on retail selling preowned clothing on a physical location and I knew tha importance to know where every item is😊
I just spent a day and a half frantically looking for a top I sold on eBay…this is my sign to acknowledge that I have outgrown my laundry room/all the closets in my home and I really need to start treating my reselling as an actual business than just a hobby 😂❤
Great video! Thanks for being so vulnerable and sharing so authentically. I’m going to set more boundaries and get my inventory and processes in order, and in doing so, take back our dining room so we can eat in peace without piles of clothing and boxes!!!
This is so relatable. I went from a studio. To a 1 bedroom, to a 2 bedroom, back to a 1 bedroom with all of my things everywhere. In a shed outside, under the bed, in a drawer, responding at all hours of the day. Thanks for this
You’re so welcome! I’m really glad you could relate - it’s sometimes a little hard to talk about but the personal aspect of reselling is just as important as the actual buying and selling stuff part.
Okay I CAN chip away at my death pile. Setting boundaries now…it is the one thing in my reselling business that haunts me every time I walk past it. I’ll continue to source but smaller scale until that pile is processed.
I am SO happy I found you guys! You are happy and it comes across the screen and super helpful. I also follow Cyley (one of the first resellers I started following years ago - she is awesome) and Nikki is great too. Thanks, guys! I have started using lots of keywords and style shopping because of you two! Hopefully, it helps my sales pick up. I think it will!
Hi! I’m so happy to hear you’re enjoying all of our content and that you’ve been style based shopping lately too! Excited to hear how things begin to pick up for you in the coming weeks for sure :)
It’s waaay aft midnight + I was ab to go to sleep til I saw this. I was at 1st thinking, Why is she smiling, when I feel like crying??? I have 150 things in a bedroom 😫 + I was sick for a wk + tho it was getting crazy, it’s now chaotic. So TY so much❣️
You’re so welcome! Also I totally hear you - I 100% have cried many times when the stress and overwhelm just got a little too much. You got this though! A little bit at a time will get you there so much faster than trying to do it all at once!
Fantastic content. I appreciate you acknowledging the basic concept - you cannot pour from an empty cup, so you need to make sure you take care of yourself as an individual before you try to run a successful business. Still, hustle!! But hustle when you are able to, and make time for a LIFE outside of that.
Yes!!! A life outside of reselling is SO important - just like it is for any other business or job, but sometimes we tend to forget about that and it can definitely lead to burnout and other negative long term lifestyle issues. Thank you for watching!!
Thanks for the pep talk. Winter is approaching and I just had someone give me a quote on insulating my garage so I could move some inventory out of my house and take my space back!
This was a really great video that I think most of us can relate to. I have been working on setting up more boundaries. At least now I have most of my reselling things in one room, so it's somewhat contained and out of sight. I also like to read at night and was reading on my phone, but recently bought a Kindle, because I don't want to see the messages coming in before I go to bed at night. I find I sleep a lot better now!
I am just getting started, dipping my feet rather than jumping in, this past week I decided I need a storage room. I am trying to downsize, it gets overwhelming as all comes out into view. The whole house looks like a death pile but I know me when it isn't overwhelming I get it done. I am so much like you!
Haha I hear you so much on this! A little chunk at a time will help get you all the way there a lot faster than you think. The overwhelm is REAL but you’ll definitely get there soon!
I totally understand how it was as this is me currently. I have my office upstairs but I do all my pictures and listing downstairs and I so needed to hear this. I think I will do a little at a time and start organizing. And set a schedule for work and home life. Thank you.
I'm a newbie reselling since June this year. Started running out of space. I have a small ranch house with carport but my cats were the ones who forced me to look for a cheap warehouse space. I love my cats but they are always up in my business which is very annoying
Haha I 100% hear you on the cat thing! We have two, and they are sometimes the cutest little things and others the most dangerous little monsters towards inventory!
Your systems also change as your business grows, you learn and evolve. What works when you are listing 20 items a week might not be the best system at 20 items a day. I don’t have a death pile. I have an emergency sourcing pile. At least one day a week, I source entirely from the sourcing pile.
Since the bins is my home basically, I'd find good stuff, but then go like 5-6 days in a row and not process anything at all. Maybe like half a day's worth of stuff then went back out. I actually prefer slowing down so I can do other things too now and still be involved in my business. It just becomes a chore after a while, something you dread because it's all you can focus on. It consumes you and doesn't become fun anymore.
I just had a huge yard sale to thin things out and get organized and it went so well I'm thinking " Should I be doing flea markets??" 🤔Even with room I tend to work in different places for a change of scenery. I'm trying limit it to certain places to keep the house less "work-ish"
Have you tried whatnot? Or posh live? Those are also super fun ways to move inventory quickly and also have fun with your community. not a change in scenery necessarily, but still a change in pace every show! I do hear you on keeping the home less work-ish though haha
I appreciate this video, I'm living with family and we are super out of space and my mom is getting mad at all the stuff I've bought to resell and sales are super slow right now so stuff just keeps piling up and I have about 250 items listed and the past few sales I've realized I need to get some sort of inventory management systems going because I couldn't find a few things that I had sold. I did end up finding them but it took awhile 😅 do you guys recommend a storage unit if I'm going to keep growing while staying with them?
Hi there! I definitely hear you on this! Sean HATED the inventory everywhere haha It’ll highly depend on your business model and if you can find other ways to condense - I’d always recommend keeping it in the home for as long as possible until it’s not practical or possible to continue to do so personally, but everyone is different!
@@TrashPandasThrift Thank you! It's good you can relate haha it's hard when you're just trying to grow but you live with others who hate the clutter and mess. I am trying my best to keep it organized. I am hoping with the holidays coming up that stuff will start moving more. I kindia stopped focusing so much on clothing and now just pick up whatever I think is cool and may sell haha I'll just keep trying to keep it out of sight out of mind 😅
Hi! We developed a SKU and inventory system where items were stored in clear bags and then bins. We also had specific unprocessed inventory sections and things like that to prevent non-sku’d inventory from taking over too
Most of my death pile are things that I’ve tried to stain treat or items that have a flaw that I’m not quite sure how to price or what to do with! Would love to hear how you guys manage that kind of thing! Despite inspecting before purchasing, things creep though!
Things DEFINITELY do sneak up on us for sure haha we usually attempt to stain treat and wash and if things don’t come out or it just won’t be worth our time, we toss the item. Our COGs are very low though, so that makes sense for our business model. If your COGs are higher or if it’s a piece that can sell for more it might be worth taking some time to repair
Thanks for your comment! Sean and I do a video together once in a while - I do most videos by myself. I also enjoy my husbands perspective, and believe others do too. If you don’t that’s totally fair, there’s no need for you to watch a video you don’t enjoy!
