This console stopped me going to the arcades, at that time I was blown away by the graphics and quality of games. For me , this will always go down in history as the most successful console.
@Tech4U If you want fancy graphics and power capabilities that's fine, I'm personally drawn more into what games a console has, over what the console can do graphically. Think it was Tekken, Wipeout, Resident Evil and Fifa which drew me into getting it.
The Og PS is as of now the fifth highest selling console of all time. PS4 and PS2 are ahead in PS department.

Pure nostalgia, this is man. No one can ever compare the feelings you get from hearing that PS1 Intro, and remembering your childhood, and the good times. Still glad I still have and play on my PS1, and PS2 till this day. Nothing will ever be like this, how I wish I could go back to the good old days.

My god this console brings back so many memories, more so that iconic start up chime. Bought one of these on first release waaay back in the early nineties and although it cost a packet (£1000 for console and £100+ per game!!!), it was still worth it because I still fire up this machine once in a while to this very day. One thing though, my memory box/packaging was very different to the one in this video - mine looked like the console packaging and not the colour version. Weird. Brilliant vid as always though fella. Thanks for sharing. 😎👌

The dings and sounds the console makes, opening and closing the tray, the power button, brings back a lot of memories. Nostalgia makes me hard.
By looking again the game «Biohazard 2» today (2018), I could say that it had extremely good graphics, moves, angles and scenes, at the time it was released. Pretty impressive!
and the way they executed it was briliant at the time! Instead of 3d rendering the environments, they are a background picture for the characters to move in, also you notice how you can still go behind stuff? Yeah that's also background but mapped to be foreground instead so it looks and feels 3d while playing.
It's pretty noticeable atleast in this case because you can notice everytime the game changes the viewing angle or scene, it takes a second to load it in and you can even hear the disk drive looking for the correct image file.
The most groundbreaking console to ever be released to date. Long live the PlayStation

To me what's groundbreaking about the PlayStation compared to NES is, when the NES came out, video games were still kind of a new thing. There really wasn't a standard because the standard was so low, hence why there was a video game crash in the first place. The quality of games just wasn't there, so most preferred to just play arcade cabinets as it was the superior experience. Then Nintendo came out of nowhere and set the standard, and soon Sega followed suit. Though it was almost neck and neck between Nintendo and Sega for a while, Nintendo always came out on top, while other companies, notably Atari, failed to deliver. Nintendo didn't really have to prove anything from the get go, they were in the right place at the right time. Though Sega did have to start proving themselves to be worthwhile competition to Nintendo, both companies were in safe positions to lead the video game industry. Which is why to me it's all the more miraculous that a company like Sony, who wasn't proven in the game industry and everyone doubted, was not only able to overshadow Sega to near irrelevancy, but was even able to beat the Big N. And even though Xbox was a great first attempt from Microsoft, it didn't stand a chance against the PS2, and took until Xbox 360 for them to be neck and neck with Sony, similar to the Nintendo vs. Sega rivalry. Point is, Sony, this unproven company when it came to video games, was able to utterly destroy TWO of the biggest game companies of the time, and yes even though the NES was revolutionary and set the standard, Sony with it's very first console attempt annihilated Nintendo, going from underdog to industry leader overnight. To me that's what's so groundbreaking about PlayStation...sure switching to CD's instead of cartridges isn't anything mindblowing, but just the fact that they had to prove themselves and not only did that but exceeded even the highest of expectations, it's a pretty inspirational story, and I haven't seen another company pull that feat off since. The closest we had was Xbox, and even they were the silver medal. And yes I know it was because of Nintendo that PlayStation even existed, everyone and their brother knows the story, this isn't a Nintendo vs. Sony rant. I love both companies, they both make great games and hardware, but what Sony pulled off in the 90's has yet to be replicated, and is more impressive to me personally than what Nintendo did. Nintendo's always been about games, Sony wasn't and were able to beat TWO industry leaders seemingly overnight. No, Sony isn't perfect, and even the OG PlayStation isn't perfect, nor is it the best console of all time, but what the first PS accomplished is pretty inspiring, to me at least.

Remembering my first look and touch to the PS 1 in 1998. Those feelings, especially the intro scene and melody. It was like the entrance to the troubless life for a while without undestanding of all circumstances and obstacles of the adult life we face today!!! I have about 55-60 cdscds of differen genres genres, including the games described above.

Family trip to Japan in '94/95. We were at Narita Airport, I was about 3 y.o. Playstation ads were everywhere with Monster Rancher as their poster game (that yellow one eye monster). Unforgetable.

I have mostly all the vintage-to present day consoles and I must say, the PlayStation 1 remains my favorite. It may not look the best but the game library and the console itself is just so fun, and I absolutely love it.

Part of this video (albeit small) was featured in French show tonight. It was kind of a documentary, retracing the major events that happened in France/the world in 2020, but it is silent. It‘s like an asmr show, there are noises but no human voices. They briefly mentioned ps5 and showed your images of the ps1. The name of the show is l‘Année du Silence (Silence2020) on TMC, and I loved it very much. It was fun to see asmr on tv!
