    It looks like you've car hawked kestrels, merlins, and cooper's hawks. I've had a couple of Kestrels. How do you rate the ease of car hawk "training" with each of these birds?

      @EddieBrochin  2 года назад +1

      I only hunted starlings with them. I kept them for two seasons then turned them back to the wild. I miss them and there isn’t a day goes by that I wonder if I should have kept them

      @@EddieBrochin thanks for your reply, really appreciated! How would you compare male vs female when it comes to car hawking only? Also, do you think it would be possible to hunt with these Merlins from waiting on(lower heights) too, or is it difficult to teach merlins to use different hunting styles, depending on the situation and hunting ground/quarry available?
      Props again, you've done a great job with them! Tough decision of course whether to keep them, or let them do their thing in the wild as wild merlins. As seen from the video I think either decision was/is the correct one.

    I'm doing this with a merlin this year. Its going to anger some "traditional" merlin hawkers, but this looks like just too much fun to not try.

      I thought falconry was hunting wild quarry with a trained bird of prey. What is falconry then?

    • @pelagatosalunados
      @pelagatosalunados Год назад

      Falconry is top justice and equality. Release a falcon of a car in moving isn’t fair to the quarry.

    • @NMFalconry
      @NMFalconry Год назад +2

      @pelagatosalunados so is a man-made hybrid falcon flying at 1500ft over a bird dog pointing a grouse falconry? Is that fair? In that arrangement the falcon at 1500ft has much more of an energy advantage compared to a bird in a car moving 10mph.
      Slip management is all about giving your bird an advantage so it can catch.

    • @pelagatosalunados
      @pelagatosalunados Год назад

      @@NMFalconry This is a merlin hawking. If in the idea of you is falconry the carhawking. So, you can buy aeroplane and hunt with a merlin. Just another point, a quarry that you catch more than 3 per day, is a quarry that no is good game.

      My birds fly in the fields, with dogs for quail just as easily. I also fly squirrels and rabbits with the Cooper’s hawks and red tails. Carhawking brings diversity to the fold and allows me to keep on hunting and feeding my birds during the rigid temps of winter where there are no longer birds in the fields. You would have to live here to understand. We hunt what is readily available to us

  • @tomwander40
    @tomwander40 Год назад +1

    why do you have to hunt starlings? What kind of sense does it make? Don't the birds' cries for help hurt your soul? It's not a natural encounter between hawk and starling. No chance for the star to use his skill in flight. No natural selection. Without your help, the hawk would never get this close to the watchful starlings. I would be grateful for an explanation from you. I'm interested in your perspective.

    • @EddieBrochin
      @EddieBrochin  Год назад +4

      Because they are a great food source for my hawks, readily available and they are an invasive species here. They are a nuisance here as they compete heavily for food and territory of our native birds. This is why they are not protected here and there are no restrictions on how we take them

    • @tomwander40

      @@EddieBrochin Ah ok. From this I conclude that you are not in Europe. Starlings are becoming increasingly rare in Europe, although it is their natural home. There is still no clear explanation for this phenomenon. Thanks for your answer🙋‍♂️
