Thank you for explaining the brown patches on the boxwood. I didn’t know why that happened and what to do about it. Now I know🙂

Love seeing Kip lounging in the grass while you prune! I think we need a better peek of that back porch area and all those wonderful potted plants!

The arbs are gone! Can’t wait to see what you do there! I love the neatness of a pruned shrub, but then I love them when they get a little fluffy too. I trimmed my unruly golden globe arborvitae today and they look much happier. They were losing their globe-ness. ☺️

I wonder if you would benefit from having a tank on your little garden truck (I can't remember the name of it). That way, you could drive the water tank around and water from that! Our city does that to water all of the hanging flower baskets around our town! They have a hose attachment with the same kind of sprayer wand that you have!

    Kaleb Scissorhands! Beautiful work. 😉
Q: How do you address deadwood within the boxwood? Struggling with that now on an old large boxwood (snow damage-a big section in the middle). Thanks for any tips.

Hi Kaleb! I just pruned my boxwood too a week ago. I found out there's a lot of cobwebs inside and dry leaves. And there's so many bugs flying like a tiny grasshoppers looking insects. I think they live inside the bush. What I'm gonna do?! 😥

Have you ever taken cutting from boxwood? Monty Don makes it look so easy but I'm near you in Omaha and wonder if it's possible in our zone.

Kaleb, I discovered just how resilient boxwoods are when I pruned 2 of them back to about 18" tall, they were over 5 ft. when I started. After I had finished hacking away at them, I was horrified at how terrible they looked. So, naturally, I called my county extension office to ask if they thought the boxwoods would survive the terrible pruning job. I was told that they probably wouldn't recover, and I should remove them at this point and start with fresh shrubs. Well, I didn't follow that advice, and both shrubs are huge again. Do those things ever stop growing, or will they get even taller? (If my pruners don't find them again.) 🌿✂️👀
I hope you are having a wonderful week! ~Margie🤭

Couple of years ago I pruned mine down to basically sticks and they came back great. I've found that on most shrubs.

I have some boxwood for winter structure, but they grow as balls and spires. They are all babies, so I haven’t pruned any of them. I wonder what would happen if I just never clipped them.

I’m in North Florida 90-100 degree days. Am I safe to trim them? Or should I wait for over cast days or wait till spring? They definitely need trimming and shaping.

Since you are in a warmer climate I would wait until late august early September so you don’t have the harsh heat!
