Real Madrid did basically the same thing to the Santiago Bernabéu over 2 seasons. It’s now probably the best stadium in Europe. The transformation is amazing. It’s well worth taking a look at. It was around 800 million euros. It can host almost any major sporting event.

All for it! It’s going to really make the Jags stand out. The Jags bring a lot of revenue to the city. 50-50 split is understandable. We’re fortunate we have an owner who wants to invest in the city, especially around the stadium. Downtown needs this! Have lived in Jax for 40+ years. Would be great for the city!

Its more than just putting a roof on it. They are going in and updating all of the infrastructure to the stadium. The plumbing on this facility sucks (goes back to the original gator bowl). They're going to dig all that up and re plumb it. They are also building up the ship yards next to the stadium. its going to be a parks/museum district and the owner of the Jags is putting a four seasons hotel next to it.

  • @ryand5725

The browns stadium renovation wouldn’t be mainly exterior at 1.2B. Their stadium was built without any of the modern “behind the scenes” necessities that most stadiums have now, the ones that allow for more diverse events. They’d be completely rebuilding the guts of half their stadium. It also has very little of the modern amenities that most stadiums have now so they’d be adding quite a bit there. That’s why the browns arent really looking to stay lake front, they’d be rebuilding the city owned stadium and not getting any of the stadium district benefits they’re looking for and the price tag is near what the entire brook park project would be. Not to mention that even though a lot of these stadiums are “publicly funded” it’s usually in the form of a loan that gets paid back by the organization.

They did this in Miami at Hard Rock and the fan experience is much better with the roof now. Light years better. We used to bake in the Sun at 1pm games and now only the visiting team has to deal with it. They stayed in the stadium and did the renovation over two seasons, and funded solely by the owner Stephen Ross. No city or county money involved. Fans would have never accepted that after the Marlins hoodwinked Miami-Dade.

DG has figured this out. These Billion dollars cost that all these cities are quoting is todays dollars at best. 1.4B is realistically 2+B by the time the project is completed. That does not even take in to account "service on to debt". These payment is over 30 to 40 years. If it takes 30 years to pay for your house, it cost 2-3 times the initial list price. Depending on your rate.

What about an old-school looking structure that captures the gritty elements of the game but has modern conveniences blended in that’s not too noticeable?
