  • In this Star Minimization for a cleaner Milky Way Image video I go over my simple star reduction technique to remove stars from the image resulting in nearly noise free landscape photos. This video is meant to help you understand layer blending and why you should treat your foreground and background layers separately.

    I used to do something very similar for a little while but zoomed in to 100% one day and was horrified to see the core looking like a finger painting. I thought this slightly different technique might not have that same effect but it does. Try it, zoom in to 100% and see thousands of dots! It looks great zoomed out though but probably not what you want for your images. If you limit the minimum filter to a radius of 0.3, maybe 0.4 at the max, then it minimizes the effect somewhat.

      I agree, while I like the technique, it's kinda like whiskey.....ya gotta know when to quit. This was akin to shooting nudes of a gorgeous model then 'shoping her tits away....

    HI there, I would love to know the result differences between using Photoshop and something like Starry Landscape Stacker to stack images. Photoshop always seems to be not as accurate as I would like it to be with aligning my images, or is it the same as Starry Landscape Stacker? Thanks!

    Nice tutorial, what about the green/yellow part just under the stars , where is that coming from ?

      The green airglow is a natural phenomenon that happens from time to time.

      Thanks Brad! Exactly. I could go in and use the saturation sliders in photoshop and remove those colors, but I love the airglow

      What? Now you want me to make a video on how you CAN apply this to a timelapse easily?

      @AlexSpaeth 6 лет назад

      stevenjmagner I mean, I’d give that video a thumbs up, at the very least. I’m just curious if it can even be done. Dust/scratches and noise reduction in Premiere/After Effects?

      I guess u could make a action u can run on every frame. Reimport all frames to lightroom and then run the holygrail metode i lrtimelaps
